The fasting person usually breaks his fast in Ramadan on dates and water. So why does his iftar start with dates in particular.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, โWhen one of you breaks his fast, let him break it with dates for they are blessed. If they are not found, let him break it with water for it is pure.โ
According to CNN, in addition to the prophet Muhammad’s will to eat dates on Iftar in Ramadan, and that it has become a sunnah, there is a scientific reason for this.
Dates contain fast-absorbing sugars that spread in the body quickly, providing the body with the necessary energy after a long day of fasting.
According to the latest scientific studies, the fastest essential nutrients that can be absorbed and transmitted into the blood are sugars, particularly those containing monoglycous or dicloscopic sugar, and because sugary substances in the form of a water solution can be absorbed in a soft form in the stomach and intestines in a short period (5-10 minutes), dates achieve this benefit as it contains about 38% sugars of its weight, 55% water of its weight, 2.2% of its weight proteins, about 3% fiber and 0.6% fat.
It is medically established that sugar (high in dates) and water are the first needed by the fasting human body after the fasting period, because hypoglycemia in the body causes chest tightness, nerve disorder, and lack of water in the body causes lack of resistance and weakness.
A Fasting person at the end of a fasting day is also in dire need of two important things, the first being a food source for very rapid power generation and the second providing a water source to make up for the shortage, both of which are available in dates.
