Qatar Tops Investors in Britain

Doha: The “Daily Maverick” website published a report revealing that Qatar is among the largest foreign investors in Britain, ahead of many gulf countries and major countries in the world like Russia, Doha came after China, which pumped in various markets of the United Kingdom so far about 51 million pounds.

At a time when Qatari investments in London and other cities amounted to £40 billion, they were all spent on giant projects primarily involving the acquisition of a huge number of properties of historical value, as well as other technology and scientific research projects that began to receive considerable attention from the Qatar Investment Authority or other properties in the latter phase.

Speaking about the list of leading investors in the UK, the report pointed to the most important Qatari projects from the ownership of Harrods stores, the buildings of Shard and Canary Wharf in the heart of the British capital, to the acquisition of a stake in the London Stock Exchange, adding to this the success of qatar investment authority in the acquisition of 22% of Sainsbury’s and 5.9% of Barclays, not to mention the tendency of private sector representatives in Qatar to buy a range of large hotels, such as the Ritz hotel in London, which was valued at least £700 million, stressing that London is among the most beloved European capitals for Qataris, and one of the most attractive for their various investments.

The report outlined the importance of the Qatar-UK Business and Investment Forum to develop partnerships and strengthen cooperation between the two countries, as it has contributed to bringing representatives of the two countries closer to the business world from all the opportunities offered by Doha and London, which both sides have responded to by launching a huge amount of dual investments in the past few years, Based on Qatar’s spending a year and a half after the forum launched in 2017 for more than £3 billion on the real estate market, Qatar’s investment in Britain is expected to increase in the next few years, with Qatari investors expected to head to future sectors such as energy and pharmaceutical industries.

The report added that the value of Gulf investments in Britain amounted to 140 billion pounds, including 40 belonging to Doha, while the rest is distributed to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman, to which Kuwait has pumped 17 billion pounds so far, pointing out the decline in the pattern of Russian investment in Britain during the recent period, after the total value of Russian funds in UK markets stopped at £25.5 billion, it will open the door for gulf countries, primarily Qatar, to enter into more deals in London, one of the world’s most active capitals in the trade and economic movements.

الدوحة: نشر موقع ” daily maverick ” تقريرا كشف فيه أن قطر تعد من بين أكبر المستثمرين الأجانب في بريطانيا، متقدمة على العديد من دول الخليج والبلدان الكبرى في العالم كروسيا، وجاءت الدوحة بعد الصين التي ضخت في مختلف أسواق المملكة المتحدة لحد الساعة حوالي 51 مليون جنيه استرليني، في الوقت الذي بلغت فيها الاستثمارات القطرية في العاصمة لندن وغيرها من المدن 40 مليار جنيه استرليني، صرفت جميعها في مشاريع عملاقة تخص بالدرجة الأولى الاستحواذ على عدد هائل من العقارات ذات القيمة التاريخية، بالإضافة إلى غيرها من مشاريع التكنولوجيا والبحث العلمي التي بدأت تحظى باهتمام كبير من طرف جهاز قطر للاستثمار أو غيره من الخواص في المرحلة الأخيرة.

وأشار التقرير خلال حديثه عن قائمة أبرز المستثمرين في المملكة المتحدة إلى أهم المشاريع القطرية بداية من تملك متاجر هارودز، ومبانى شارد وكناري وارف في قلب العاصمة البريطانية، وصولا إلى الاستحواذ على حصة في بورصة لندن، مضيفا إلى ذلك نجاح جهاز قطر للاستثمار في الحيازة على 22 % من مجموعة متاجر سينزبري و5.9 % من بنك باركليز، ناهيك عن توجه ممثلي القطاع الخاص في قطر إلى شراء مجموعة من الفنادق الضخمة، كفندق الريتز في لندن التي قدرت قيمة الحصول عليه بما لا يقل عن 700 مليون جنيه استرليني، مشددا على أن لندن تعتبر من بين أحب العواصم الأوروبية بالنسبة للقطريين، ومن أكثرها استقطابا لاستثماراتهم المختلفة.

وبين التقرير أهمية المنتدى القطري البريطاني للأعمال والاستثمار بالنسبة لتطوير الشراكات وتعزيز التعاون بين البلدين، حيث ساهم في تقريب ممثلي الدولتين في عالم الأعمال من جميع الفرص التي توفرها كل من الدوحة ولندن، وهو ما استجاب له الجانبان من خلال إطلاق كم هائل من الاستثمارات المزدوجة في السنوات القليلة الماضية، مستدلا بإنفاق قطر بعد عام ونصف من اطلاق المنتدى في 2017 لما يتعدى 3 مليارات جنيه استرليني على سوق العقارات، متوقعا زيادة في حجم الاستثمارات القطرية في بريطانيا في الأعوام القليلة المقبلة، التي من المنتظر أن يتوجه فيها المستثمرون القطريون إلى القطاعات المستقبلية كالطاقة والصناعات الصيدلية.

وأضاف التقرير بأن قيمة الاستثمارات الخليجية في بريطانيا بلغت 140 مليار جنيه استرليني من بينها أربعون تخص الدوحة، فيما يوزع الباقي على المملكة العربية السعودية، والإمارات المتحدة والبحرين وسلطنة عمان، زد إليها الكويت التي ضخت لحد الآن 17 مليار جنيه استرليني، لافتا إلى تراجع نسق الاستثمار الروسي في بريطانيا خلال الفترة الأخيرة، بعد توقف اجمالي قيمة الأموال الروسية في الأسواق التابعة للمملكة المتحدة عند حاجز 25.5 مليار جنيه استرليني، مما سيفتح الأبواب أمام الدول الخليجية وفي مقدمتها قطر إلى الدخول في المزيد من الصفقات في العاصمة لندن التي تعد من بين أنشط عواصم العالم في الحركتين التجارية والاقتصادية.
