HBKU Signs MoU with Hassad Food

Doha: The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hassad Food to advance science and technology through data exchange, cooperation, research and development in the area of food production.

The agreement entails a commitment to developing research programs designed to promote academic and industry relations, foster innovation, and facilitate the development and use of state-of-the-art technology and design of food production systems.

Under the framework of the agreement, CSE and Hassad commit to supporting mutually agreed research projects in the fields of relevance to Hassad Food, which relate to food security, sustainable food production, energy efficiency, water management and artificial intelligence (AI) within the water-saving pilot greenhouse, located at one of Hassad’s farms in Al Shahaniya.

The agreement also includes collaborating with HBKU’s degree programs at CSE, to assist student research projects in the fields of food security, sustainable food production, energy efficiency, water and crop management, robotics, data science, and AI on farms belonging to Hassad Food and within the water-saving pilot greenhouse.

Reflecting on the aims of the MoU, Dr. Mounir Hamdi, founding dean of CSE, said: “These new areas of cooperation present unique opportunities for CSE to share our expertise and novel applied research on emerging technologies with Hassad Food. The agreement exemplifies how research-industry collaboration can help to build confidence in the digitalization of agricultural processes and support the industry to expand their capabilities to implement innovative solutions. The outcomes and benefits to Hassad Food will pave the way for the advancement of the entire agricultural sector, with a positive impact on Qatar’s growth and development.”

Dr. Tareq Al Ansari, assistant professor, CSE, said: “This mutual agreement stems from our long-term efforts at the College of Science and Engineering at HBKU to support Qatar’s food security strategy. To date, through our ongoing research projects and industry partnerships, we have demonstrated how we can contribute to enhancing sustainable food production and food security in Qatar. We now look forward to this new opportunity to formally collaborate with Hassad Food and strengthen their programs to develop the country’s livestock and agricultural sector.”

Mubarak Rashid Al Sahuti, business development director at Hassad Food, commented: “It is our pleasure to collaborate with CSE, as we always seek to support research and development initiatives and programs, with the aim of developing the local agriculture sector and support it in achieving self-sufficiency.”

الدوحة: وقعت كلية العلوم والهندسة بجامعة حمد بن خليفة مذكرة تفاهم مع شركة حصاد الغذائية، للتعاون في إجراء عدد من الأبحاث التي من شأنها المساهمة في تطوير قطاع الإنتاج الغذائي المحلي.

وتهدف المذكرة إلى إنشاء تكامل بين المؤسسات الأكاديمية والاستثمارية بالدولة، من خلال التعاون في تطوير برامج بحثية وتقنيات حديثة ذات صلة بمجالات الأمن الغذائي، والإنتاج الغذائي المستدام، وقطاع الطاقة، واستخدام المياه، والذكاء الاصطناعي، بالإضافة إلى تقديم الدعم لطلاب الدراسات العليا بكلية العلوم والهندسة بجامعة حمد بن خليفة، في مشاريعهم البحثية المتعلقة بنفس المجالات، وذلك من خلال استخدام البيت المحمي التجريبي الواقع في إحدى المزارع التابعة لشركة حصاد الغذائية في منطقة الشحانية.

وعلق الدكتور منير حمدي، العميد المؤسس لكلية العلوم والهندسة، على مذكرة التفاهم بأن مجالات التعاون الجديدة توفر فرصا فريدة للكلية تتيح إمكانية مشاركة الخبرات والأبحاث التطبيقية الجديدة حول التقنيات المستجدة مع شركة حصاد الغذائية، مشيرا إلى أن المذكرة تبين كيف يمكن للتعاون البحثي والصناعي أن يساعد في بناء الثقة في رقمنة العمليات الزراعية، ودعم القطاع الصناعي لتوسيع قدراته على تنفيذ حلول مبتكرة.

وأضاف أن النتائج والفوائد التي تعود بالنفع على شركة حصاد الغذائية ستمهد الطريق للنهوض بالقطاع الزراعي بأكمله، مع تحقيق تأثير إيجابي في مسيرة نمو دولة قطر وتطورها.

من جانبه، أوضح الدكتور طارق الأنصاري، الأستاذ المساعد بكلية العلوم والهندسة، أن هذه المذكرة جاءت نتيجة الجهود طويلة المدى التي تبذلها الكلية لدعم استراتيجية الأمن الغذائي في قطر، مضيفا “وقد أظهرنا حتى الآن، من خلال مشاريعنا البحثية وشراكاتنا الصناعية المتواصلة، كيف يمكننا المساهمة في تعزيز الإنتاج الغذائي المستدام والأمن الغذائي في قطر”.

وأعرب عن تطلعه إلى اغتنام هذه الفرصة الجديدة للتعاون بشكل رسمي مع شركة حصاد الغذائية للمساهمة في تطوير قطاع الثروة الحيوانية والقطاع الزراعي في البلاد.

بدوره، أعرب السيد مبارك راشد السحوتي، المدير التنفيذي للعلاقات التجارية في شركة حصاد الغذائية، عن سعادته بالتعاون مع كلية العلوم والهندسة، مشيرا إلى سعي الشركة الدائم إلى دعم مبادرات وبرامج البحوث والتطوير، وذلك بهدف تطوير القطاع الزراعي المحلي والمساهمة في تحقيق الاكتفاء الذاتي.
