Qatar Airways’ New Engine Facility Inaugurated

Doha: HE Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti inaugurated yesterday the new Qatar Airways Engine Facility.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by HE President of Qatar Civil Aviation Authority Abdulla Nasser Turki Al Subaey, HE Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker, along with other senior officials and VIPs.
The inauguration of the new 9,000 sq. ft. Engine Facility was part of Qatar Airways vision of lowering maintenance costs by more than $2.2 billion a year, to support the carrier’s growth despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is estimated the new facility will enable the airline to improve workflow by over 1,800 man hours per month, or 23,400 man hours per year, by centralizing its engine production and engine parts storage processes, increasing the number of its engine production lines from four to eight covering a variety of aircraft engine types. In addition to this, the ultramodern facility is able to house a total of 80 engines of varying sizes in a temperature and humidity controlled environment, with two specialist Dust Control rooms to limit the presence of dust and harmful particles, as well as a dedicated Supply Chain area to minimize waiting times for the ordering and transportation of spare parts.
Commenting on the occasion, HE the Minister of Transport and Communications said that this achievement will boost the ongoing growth of the aviation industry in Qatar and contribute to localizing that major industry. This event also keeps pace with the remarkable development in transportation sector in the country in light of the upsurge in development under the countrys wise leadership.
His Excellency added that the nations milestones in the field of aviation industry have increased despite the exceptional circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that Hamad International Airport has continued winning awards as the best airport in the world in terms of efficiency, service and amenities for travelers and Qatar Airways has ranked first and won several global awards.
His Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar will build on that work and will carry out several projects in the future to keep pace with all developments in aviation industry, which is one of the most advanced industries in the world, toward a promising future and an advanced country that takes its position among world countries, until reaching the horizons of Qatar National Vision 2030.
For his part, HE Al Baker said that “the continuous improvement and expansion of our Technical Maintenance facilities is a key element in supporting the airlines ongoing efforts to rebuild our global network to more than 140 destinations by the summer peak season.”
“With the new Engine Facility, we have not only created one of the most technologically-advanced engine assembly and disassembly facilities available within the commercial aviation industry to date, but also doubled our engine production capabilities,” His Excellency added.
His Excellency also stressed that the facilitys extensive dedicated Supply Chain area also means that the carrier will have instant access to a ready supply of engine parts and equipment, reducing the company’s reliance on external suppliers and further supporting the reliability and technical capability of Qatar Airways fleet of next-generation aircraft.

الدوحة: افتتح سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، يوم الأمس، مبنى المحركات الجديد التابع للخطوط الجوية القطرية.
حضر حفل الافتتاح كل من سعادة السيد عبدالله بن ناصر تركي السبيعي، رئيس الهيئة العامة للطيران المدني، وسعادة السيد أكبر الباكر، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية، وعدد من المسؤولين وكبار الشخصيات.
وتبلغ مساحة المبنى الجديد 9 آلاف قدم مربعة، ويأتي افتتاحه ضمن رؤية الخطوط الجوية القطرية الهادفة لتقليل تكاليف عمليات الصيانة بنسبة تتجاوز 2.2 مليون دولار أمريكي سنوياً، ولدعم نمو الناقلة رغم التحديات التي فرضتها جائحة كوفيد-19.
ومن المتوقع أن يمكن المبنى الجديد /القطرية/ من تعزيز كفاءة سير العمل وتوفير أكثر من 1800 ساعة عمل شهرياً، أو 23400 ساعة عمل سنوياً وذلك بفضل توطين عملية إنتاج المحركات وتخزين أجزائها، مما سيزيد من عدد خطوط إنتاج المحركات من أربعة إلى ثمانية خطوط تغطي مختلف أنواع المحركات.
كما يمتاز المبنى الجديد بإمكانية استيعاب ما مجموعه 80 محركاً بأحجام مختلفة ضمن بيئة يمكن التحكم بدرجة حرارتها ورطوبتها، مع تخصيص غرفتين للتحكم بنسبة الغبار فيهما حيث سيساهم هذا الأمر في الحد من الغبار والجزيئات الضارة في الهواء. كما يضم المبنى منطقة خاصة لسلسلة التوريد بهدف التقليل من أوقات الانتظار لطلب قطع الغيار ونقلها.
وفي كلمته بالمناسبة، أكد سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، أن هذا الإنجاز سيعزز النمو المتواصل لقطاع صناعة الطيران في دولة قطر، وسيساهم في توطين هذه الصناعة المهمة.
وقال سعادته إن هذا الحدث سيواكب ما يشهده قطاع النقل في الدولة من تطور ملحوظ في ضوء النهضة التنموية تحت القيادة الرشيدة للبلاد.
وأضاف سعادته أنه في الآونة الأخيرة زادت معالم تقدم الدولة في مجال صناعة الطيران رغم الظروف الاستثنائية لتداعيات جائحة (كوفيد-19)، حيث واصل مطار حمد الدولي حصد جوائزه كأفضل مطارات العالم من حيث الكفاءة والخدمة وراحة المسافرين، كما تربعت الخطوط الجوية القطرية على عرش الريادة وحصدت العديد من الجوائز العالمية.
وأكد سعادته أن دولة قطر ستواصل مسيرة العطاء والعمل وتنفيذ العديد من المشاريع في المستقبل لمواكبة كافة تطورات قطاع الطيران الذي يعد من أكثر المجالات والصناعات تقدماً في العالم، وذلك من أجل غد واعد ووطن متقدم يتبوأ مكانته بين دول العالم، وصولا إلى تحقيق رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030.
ومن جانبه، قال سعادة السيد أكبر الباكر الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية “إن الحرص على توسعة مرافق الصيانة وتحسين عملياتها يعتبر أمراً جوهرياً ومهماً في دعم جهودنا الرامية إلى إعادة بناء شبكة وجهاتنا لتضم أكثر من 140 وجهة عالمية بحلول موسم الصيف”.
وأضاف سعادته: “مع افتتاح مبنى المحركات الجديد، ستكون لدينا واحدة من أكثر المنشآت تقدماً من الناحية التكنولوجية لتفكيك وتجميع المحركات على مستوى قطاع الطيران التجاري حتى اليوم، كما ستتضاعف قدرات إنتاج المحركات لدينا أيضاً”.
وأكد سعادته أن المنطقة الكبيرة المخصصة لسلاسل التوريد ستساهم في توفير قطع غيار ومعدات صيانة المحركات بكل سهولة ويسر “مما سيقلل من اعتمادنا على الموردين الخارجيين وسيعزز من موثوقية وقدرة أسطول الخطوط الجوية القطرية من الطائرات الحديثة”.
