7th Doha Islamic Finance Conference Begins Today

Doha: Under the patronage of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, the 7th Doha Islamic Finance Conference will begin Tuesday under the title “Digital Economy and Sustainable Development”. The conference is organized by Bait Al Mashura Finance Consultations Company with the strategic partner and exclusive sponsor “Dukhan Bank”.

The conference will continue until April 1, 2021, via video conferencing, with the participation of governmental bodies, international organizations, financial and academic institutions in the fields of economics, finance and technology.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Vice Chairman of Bait Al Mashoura Finance Consultations Company Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said that the conference is held in light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has a heavy negative impact on the global economy, a matter which forces the Islamic finance sector to discuss mechanisms to confront the challenges related to the pandemic while anticipating future prospects, pointing out that Doha’s hosting of the conference reflects leadership in the Islamic finance sector as the State of Qatar is the fifth largest market for Islamic finance in the world, with assets of more than $129 billion, and the total assets of Islamic finance account for 33 percent of the total financial and banking system in the country.

He pointed out that the seventh edition of the conference focuses on three main topics including the mechanism of recovery and economic recovery after crises, the economies of the virtual world, and the social finance and its role in achieving sustainable development.

For his part, Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Managing Director and CEO of Bait Al Mashoura Finance Consultations Company Dr. Osama Qais Al Deraie said that Bait Al Mashoura will organize this important annual event using video conferencing, highlighting its importance and timing that comes at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, which necessitates efforts to develop the Islamic financial industry to ensure the recovery and growth of the Islamic finance sector in the post-pandemic period.

He pointed out that the Coronavirus pandemic contributed to changing the scene of the Islamic financial industry significantly, while Qatari Islamic financial institutions showed great flexibility in the face of the challenges of the pandemic by moving towards investment in financial technology (Fintech) and enhancing plans to ward off risks and pay attention to cybersecurity with an emphasis on innovation to introduce new Islamic financial tools and products.

He pointed out that the latest available data revealed that the size of the Islamic financial technology market in Qatar reached the level of $849 million (QR3.09 billion), amid expectations that the sector will achieve a compound annual growth rate of 19.6% to reach $2billion (QR7.28 billion) by 2025.

الدوحة: تحت رعاية معالي الشيخ خالد بن خليفة بن عبدالعزيز آل ثاني رئيس مجلس الوزراء ووزير الداخلية، تنطلق اليوم /الثلاثاء/، أعمال مؤتمر الدوحة السابع للمال الإسلامي بعنوان /الاقتصاد الرقمي والتنمية المستدامة/، والذي تنظمه شركة بيت المشورة للاستشارات المالية بالتعاون مع الشريك الاستراتيجي والراعي الحصري بنك دخان.

وتستمر فعاليات المؤتمر حتى الأول من أبريل المقبل عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي، وبمشاركة دولية ومحلية من هيئات حكومية ومنظمات دولية ومؤسسات مالية وأكاديمية في مجالات الاقتصاد والمال والتكنولوجيا.

وقال الدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي، رئيس اللجنة المنظمة ونائب رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة بيت المشورة للاستشارات المالية في تصريح اليوم، إن انعقاد هذا المؤتمر يأتي في ظل جائحة كورونا /كوفيد ـ 19/ والتي ألقت بظلال سلبية ثقيلة على الاقتصاد العالمي وهو الأمر الذي يفرض على قطاع التمويل الإسلامي بحث آليات مواجهة التحديات المتعلقة بالجائحة مع استشراف آفاق المستقبل، لافتا إلى أن احتضان الدوحة للمؤتمر يأتي ليعكس الريادة في قطاع التمويل الإسلامي، حيث تعتبر دولة قطر خامس أكبر سوق للتمويل الإسلامي عالميا بحجم أصول يفوق 129 مليار دولار، وتستحوذ إجمالي أصول التمويل الإسلامي على 33 بالمائة من إجمالي النظام المالي والمصرفي في الدولة.

وأشار إلى أن المؤتمر في نسخته السابعة يتضمن ثلاثة محاور رئيسية، حيث سيبحث المحور الأول /آلية التعافي والانتعاش الاقتصادي بعد الأزمات/، والمحور الثاني /اقتصادات العالم الافتراضي/، والمحور الثالث /التمويل الاجتماعي ودوره في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة/.

من جهته ، قال الدكتور أسامة قيس الدريعي، نائب رئيس اللجنة المنظمة والعضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لشركة بيت المشورة للاستشارات المالية، إن شركة بيت المشورة ستنظم هذا الحدث السنوي المهم بتقنية الاتصال المرئي عن بعد، وذلك نظرا لأهميته وتوقيته الذي يأتي في أوج جائحة كورونا وهو ما يفرض علينا بذل الجهد لتطوير الصناعة المالية الإسلامية لضمان تعافي ونمو قطاع التمويل الإسلامي في مرحلة ما بعد الجائحة.

ولفت إلى أن جائحة كورونا ساهمت في تغيير مشهد الصناعة المالية الإسلامية بشكل كبير، فيما أظهرت المؤسسات المالية الإسلامية القطرية مرونة كبرى أمام تحديات الجائحة من خلال التوجه نحو الاستثمار في التكنولوجيا المالية /الفينتك/ وتعزيز خطط درء المخاطر والاهتمام بالأمن السيبراني مع التركيز على الابتكار لطرح أدوات ومنتجات مالية إسلامية جديدة.

وأشار إلى أن أحدث البيانات المتاحة تكشف عن بلوغ حجم سوق التكنولوجيا المالية الإسلامية في قطر مستوى 849 مليون دولار (3.09 مليار ريال)، وسط توقعات بتحقيق القطاع لمعدل نمو سنوي مركب بنسبة 19.6 % ليصل إلى ملياري دولار (7.28 مليار ريال ) بحلول عام 2025.
