Doha: The Fire Station: Artist in Residence unveiled the Keep Running: AI, Art and Qatari Heritage and Mohammed Atiq Al Dosari: Attention exhibitions on Wednesday. In the Keep Running: AI, Art and Qatari Heritage exhibition, Dr. James She explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used for creative purposes, rather than for purely technological advances.
The artworks are the result of a series of AI paintings that depict distinguishable features and forms of horses while creating aesthetic value and even capturing sentimental reactions in each horse portrait using GAN” (generative adversarial network) technology. Dr. James, an associate professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University created the body of work over the past year and during his residency at the Fire Station, as part of a collaboration with the university.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Atiq Al Dosari’s Attention examines the detrimental impact of waste on the environment as witnessed by the artist during his residency at the International Studio & Curatorial Program in Brooklyn, New York in 2020. Al Dosari draws inspiration from Indian philosopher Osho, using the waste material to create something beautiful and to raise awareness of the global challenge of waste.
In his practice, he uses simple elements, ordinary tools, and cheap materials to create pieces that explore the ideas of time and place.
Khalifa Al Obaidly, Director, Fire Station, said: “The Fire Station is delighted to unveil two incredibly thought-provoking exhibitions that explore current global advances and challenges. We look forward to welcoming the wider community to explore these modern themes from a refreshing perspective and to reconsider how we can each play our part in alleviating the global waste crisis.”
Keep Running: AI, Art and Qatari Heritage will be presented at Gallery 3 and Mohammed Al Atiq: Attention will be showing at Gallery 4. Both exhibitions will run until April 7, 2021.

الدوحة: افتتح، الأمس، بمطافئ: مقر الفنانين، معرضان هما: “استمر في الجري: فن الذكاء الاصطناعي والتراث القطري” ، و”محمد عتيق الدوسري: انتباه” .
ويستكشف الدكتور “جيمس شي” في معرض “استمر في الجري: فن الذكاء الاصطناعي والتراث القطري” كيف يمكن استخدام الذكاء الاصطناعي للابتكار بالإضافة للتطوير التقني، وينعكس ذلك في عمله الفني المتألف من سلسلة من لوحات استخدمت الذكاء الاصطناعي لتُظهر ملامح الخيول وأشكالها المميزة، مبرزة قيما جمالية وحتى عاطفية في كل صورة، وذلك عبر باستخدام تقنية “GAN” (شبكات الخصومة التوليدية).
والدكتور “جيمس شي” هو أستاذ مساعد في جامعة حمد بن خليفة، وأنتج مجموعة الأعمال هذه خلال العام الماضي أثناء انضمامه لبرنامج الإقامة الفنية في مطافئ، كجزء من التعاون مع الجامعة.
في المقابل، يدرس معرض “محمد عتيق الدوسري: انتباه” الأثر الضار للنفايات على البيئة، والتي لاحظها الدوسري يوميا أثناء إقامته في برنامج الاستوديو الدولي في بروكلين، بنيويورك عام 2020.
وقد استوحى الفنان مشروعه من الفيلسوف الهندي “أوشو”، وتحدى نفسه لاستخراج الجمال من النفايات لزيادة الوعي بهذه القضية.. ويستخدم الدوسري ضمن ممارساته الفنية عناصر بسيطة وأدوات ومواد رخيصة لصنع قطع تستكشف أفكار الزمان والمكان.
وعلق السيد خليفة العبيدلي مدير مطافئ، قائلًا: “يسرّ مطافئ أن تكشف الستار عن معرضين استثنائيين، يستكشفان التطورات والتحديات العالمية الحالية، ونتطلع إلى الترحيب بجمهورنا بكافة فئاته لاستكشاف هذه الموضوعات الحديثة من منظور متجدد، وإعادة النظر في كيف يمكننا أن يلعب كل منا دوره في التخفيف من أزمة النفايات العالمية”.
وسيتم عرض “استمر في الجري: فن الذكاء الاصطناعي والتراث القطري” في /جاليري 3/، و”محمد عتيق الدوسري: انتباه” في /جاليري 4/، ويستمران حتى 7 أبريل المقبل.
