QU Organizes Symposium on Public’s Questions about COVID-19 Vaccine

Doha: President of Qatar University (QU) Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham underlined that the world is going through an important turning point as it receives the efforts of scientists in the field of combating epidemics, amidst fears of a new wave of the coronavirus pandemic, which makes awareness efforts an important and necessary matter.

Addressing a symposium organized by QU’s Health Specialties cluster in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation and the Primary Care Department, Dr. Al Derham underlined that Qatar University has contributed effectively to the State’s efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through the distinguished efforts of its researchers in cooperation with other concerned bodies in the State.

For his part, Director of the Public Health Department at the Ministry of Public Health Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani stressed the importance of the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Health since the outbreak of the pandemic at all levels, whether in terms of mitigating the effects of the pandemic and limiting the number of deaths, or mobilizing the public and providing it with correct information, or providing vaccinations as soon as possible and continuing the efforts to vaccinate the elderly and the front-line workers in combating the pandemic and those most vulnerable to infection, until providing the vaccine for everyone.

He said that the State of Qatar has strengthened the precautionary measures and strategic plans, as well as monitoring and tracking the disease and providing the EHTERAZ application to curb the spread of the virus. The State has also cooperated with scientific institutions in the field of scientific research and the World Health Organization to remain updated with all the developments related to this pandemic, and has provided assistance to many countries affected by the disease, thus enhancing its presence on all levels to tackle the disease, including the use of research and artificial intelligence.

Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani warned against wrong information about the vaccines, stressing that the concerned authorities will respond to any wrong information that is sent to the public, and called on the public to exercise caution and take information from the competent authorities only.

الدوحة: أكد الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر أن العالم اليوم يمر بمنعطف هام وهو يستقبل جهود العلماء في مجال مكافحة الأوبئة، وسط خوف من موجة جديدة لوباء /كورونا/، مما يجعل من جهود التوعية أمرا مهما وضروريا، منوها بجهود المشاركين في عملية التعبئة والتعريف بكل ماله صلة باللقاحات ضد /كوفيد- 19/ والذين كانوا جنودا في الصفوف الأمامية لمكافحة الوباء على مدار عام كامل.

جاء ذلك خلال كلمة ألقاها الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم في ندوة نظمها تجمع التخصصات الصحية بجامعة قطر بالتعاون مع وزارة الصحة ومؤسسة حمد الطبية وإدارة الرعاية الأولية، حيث أكد أن جامعة قطر ساهمت بشكل فعال في جهود الدولة في مكافحة الوباء، من خلال جهود باحثيها المتميزة بالتعاون مع الجهات المعنية الأخرى في الدولة.

من جانبه، أكد الشيخ الدكتور محمد بن حمد آل ثاني مدير إدارة الصحة العامة بوزارة الصحة على أهمية الجهود التي قامت بها وزارة الصحة منذ ظهور الوباء وحتى اليوم على كافة الأصعدة من أجل التخفيف من آثار الجائحة وتقليل عدد الوفيات أو بتعبئة الجمهور وتزويده بالمعلومات الصحيحة، أو بتوفير اللقاحات بأسرع وقت ممكن ومواصلة الجهود لتطعيم كبار السن والعاملين في الصفوف الأمامية في مكافحة الوباء والأشخاص المعرضين للإصابة أكثر من غيرهم انتهاء بتوفير اللقاح للجميع.

وقال إن دولة قطر قامت بتعزيز التدابير الاحترازية والخطط الاستراتيجية ومراقبة وتعقب المرض وتوفير تطبيق /احتراز/ للتصدي للفيروس، كما تم التعاون مع المؤسسات العلمية في مجال البحث العلمي ومنظمة الصحة العالمية لمتابعة كل جديد يتعلق بهذا الوباء وقدمت مساعدات للعديد من الدول التي تضررت من الجائحة، وعززت من حضورها على كافة الأصعدة للتصدي للمرض، بما في ذلك استخدام الأبحاث والذكاء الاصطناعي.

وحذر الشيخ الدكتور محمد بن حمد آل ثاني من المعلومات الخاطئة حول اللقاحات، مؤكدا تصدي الجهات المعنية لأي معلومات خاطئة يتم إرسالها للجمهور، حيث ينص القانون على معاقبة من يروجون تلك الإشاعات.. ومطالبا الجمهور بتوخي الحذر والحيطة وأخذ المعلومات من الجهات المختصة فقط.

بدوره، عبر الدكتور ايغون توفت نائب رئيس الجامعة للشؤون الطبية وعميد كلية الطب عن شكره على تنظيم الندوة التي أكد على أهميتها.. مشيدا بجهود اللجنة المنظمة لها وبالتعاون البناء بين تجمع التخصصات الطبية بجامعة قطر والجهات الصحية في الدولة ومتابعة جهود كبرى الجامعات ومراكز الأبحاث للتصدي للمرض.
