Minister: Reducing school attendance if corona infections increase

Doha: H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulwahid Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, revealed that the attendance of students to schools will not increase by more than 50% during the current academic year.

He added that attendance could decline if the number of people infected with the new CORONA virus (Covid-19) increases, pointing out that the decision on the percentage of students attending schools is not unilateral but in coordination with a committee from the Ministry of Public Health according to the indicators of the spread of the epidemic.

Dr. Al Hammadi added in a press statement: “I do not believe that the rate of student attendance in schools exceeds 50% during the second semester, since the stages of vaccination against Covid-19 extend until next October, so that we can vaccinate the largest percentage of the population, during this period the current school year will end, so this percentage may be the maximum this year, and may decline if there is an increase in the number of infected people, because health first and then education.”

Al-Hammadi also noted that the ministry has coordinated with MOPH, so that teachers are among the priority groups in vaccination, and indeed we have sent to the ministry tables containing school staff data for this purpose.

الدوحة: كشف سعادة الدكتور محمد بن عبدالواحد الحمادي وزير التعليم والتعليم العالي عن عدم زيادة نسبة حضور الطلاب إلى المدارس أكثر من 50% خلال العام الدراسي الحالي، 

وأضاف  أنه يمكن أن تتراجع نسبة الحضور في حالة زيادة أعداد المصابين بفيروس كورونا المستجد كوفيد-19، لافتاً إلى أن قرار نسبة حضور الطلاب إلى المدارس لا يكون منفرداً بل بالتنسيق مع لجنة من وزارة الصحة العامة حسب مؤشرات انتشار الوباء.

وأضاف د. الحمادي في تصريحات صحفية: ” لا أعتقد أن تزيد نسبة دوام الطلبة في المدارس عن 50% خلال الفصل الدراسي الثاني، كون أن مراحل التطعيم المضاد لفيروس كورونا تمتد حتى شهر اكتوبر المقبل، حتى نتمكن من تطعيم النسبة الأكبر من السكان، خلال هذه الفترة سوف ينتهي العام الدراسي الحالي، لذلك قد تكون هذه النسبة هي الحد الأقصى لهذا العام، وقد تتراجع إذا كان هناك زيادة في أعداد المصابين، لأن الصحة أولاً ومن ثم التعليم “.

كما نوه الحمادي، أن الوزارة نسقت مع الصحة، ليكون المعلمون من ضمن الفئات الذين لهم أولوية في التطعيم، وبالفعل أرسلنا إلى الوزارة جداول تتضمن بيانات موظفي المدارس لهذا الغرض.
