Why should you invest in the euro, not the dollar, during 2021?

Doha: The single European currency (the euro) recorded one of its best periods of brilliance and control over the arenas of international economies, driven by the gains it made to investors during the year 2020. It seems that its continuation on this path has become the subject of confirmation of economic and financial experts to push the dollar off its throne.

The European currency returned good profits to its investors in 2020, and according to experts’ assurances, the euro, along with shares of technology and gold companies, was one of the most profitable investment tools in 2020 and in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the “Russia Today” website, the real profitability of the euro has reached more than 25% in 2020, and Artem Tuzov, executive director of the capital market division at Univer Kapital, expects the European currency to maintain this path this year. Regarding the reasons for the rise in the euro, the expert referred to measures to support citizens and companies by the authorities, as well as withdrawing investors’ money from risky assets in favor of major reserve currencies.

This comes at a time when the dollar is expected to decline between 10% – 15% against the major currencies in the world, during the current year. The American Bloomberg Agency says that the dollar index ended the week low, recording its largest weekly loss in 5 weeks after the impact of optimism among investors about the impact of additional US financial stimulus packages outweighed the growing concerns due to the Coronavirus.

The euro rose against the backdrop of the dollar’s decline, despite the high numbers of Coronavirus cases in the region and the negative comments of European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde regarding the economic outlook for the region.

“Al-Jazeera” website had quoted the French ” Mediapart ” website that European countries are intent on strengthening the role of the euro in international trade, and that they sent this message with the start of US President Joe Biden’s term.

The website revealed a draft resolution that is being discussed in the halls of the European Commission in order to enhance the capabilities of attracting the euro, to obtain a decent financial power of the size of the eurozone and take it out from the mercy of the sanctions decided by the US authorities unilaterally. According to the site, the European Commission wants to impose the euro as an alternative reference currency to the US currency in international trade, and for this purpose it will seek to strengthen the role of the euro as a reserve currency for central banks.

The European desire to escape the hegemony of the dollar is part of the legacy of former President Donald Trump’s tenure, which for four years Europe remained at the mercy of its rage, its unexpected decisions and its threat of customs sanctions, retaliation and embargoes.

Washington’s exit from the Iran nuclear deal and its imposition of a blockade prohibiting all commercial relations with Tehran was a dangerous indicator that made Europe aware of its weakness and impotence, as it did not find a way to escape the American dictates for one reason, which is the dollar, which laws allow America to prosecute all companies that use it.

الدوحة: سجلت العملة الأوروبية الموحدة (اليورو) واحدة من أفضل فترات تألقها وسيطرتها على ساحات الاقتصادات الدولية ، بدافع من المكاسب التي حققتها للمستثمرين خلال عام 2020 .. ويبدو أن استمرارها في هذا المسار أصبح موضع تأكيد من الخبراء الاقتصاديين والماليين لتزيح الدولار عن عرشه.

وعادت العملة الأوروبية بأرباح جيدة على مستثمريها في 2020، وبحسب تأكيدات الخبراء فإن اليورو، إلى جانب أسهم شركات التكنولوجيا والذهب، كان أحد أدوات الاستثمار الأكثر ربحية في 2020 وفي ظل جائحة كورونا.

وحسب موقع “روسيا اليوم”، بلغت الربحية الحقيقة لليورو أكثر من 25% في 2020، ويتوقع أرتيم توزوف المدير التنفيذي لقسم سوق رأس المال في  Univer Capital، أن تحافظ العملة الأوروبية على هذا المسار خلال العام الجاري.

وعن أسباب ارتفاع اليورو، أشار الخبير إلى إجراءات دعم المواطنين والشركات من قبل السلطات، كذلك سحب أموال المستثمرين من الأصول الخطرة لصالح العملات الاحتياطية الرئيسية.

ويأتي ذلك في وقت يتوقع فيه أن يتراجع الدولار ما بين 10% – 15% أمام العملات الرئيسية في العالم، خلال العام الجاري.

وتقول  وكالة بلومبيرغ الأمريكية إن مؤشر الدولار أنهى الأسبوع منخفضًا، حيث سجل أكبر خسارة أسبوعية له في 5 أسابيع بعد أن تفوق تأثير التفاؤل الذي ساد بين المستثمرين حول تأثير حزم التحفيز المالي الإضافية الأمريكية، على المخاوف المتزايدة بسبب فيروس كورونا. 

وارتفع اليورو على خلفية تراجع الدولار، رغم ارتفاع اعداد الإصابة بفيروس كورونا في المنطقة والتعليقات السلبية لرئيسة البنك المركزي الأوروبي كريستين لاغارد بخصوص التوقعات الاقتصادية للمنطقة. 

وكان  موقع “الجزيرة” قد نقل عن موقع “ميديا بارت” الفرنسي أن الدول الأوروبية عازمة على تعزيز دور اليورو في التجارة الدولية، وأنها وجهت هذه الرسالة مع بدء ولاية الرئيس الأمريكي جو بايدن.

وكشف الموقع عن عن مشروع قرار يتم مناقشته في ردهات المفوضية الأوروبية من أجل تعزيز قدرات جذب اليورو، للحصول على قوة مالية لائقة بحجم منطقة اليورو تخرجها من تحت رحمة العقوبات التي تقررها السلطات الأمريكية من جانب واحد.

ووفق الموقع، ترغب المفوضية الأوروبية في فرض اليورو كعملة مرجعية بديلة للعملة الأمريكية في التجارة الدولية، ولهذه الغاية ستسعى إلى تعزيز دور اليورو كعملة احتياطية للبنوك المركزية.

وتعد الرغبة الأوروبية في الهروب من هيمنة الدولار جزءا من تركة من ولاية الرئيس السابق دونالد ترامب التي ظلت أوروبا 4 سنوات تحت رحمة غضبها وقراراتها غير المتوقعة وتهديدها بالعقوبات الجمركية والانتقام والحظر.

وقد شكل خروج واشنطن من الاتفاق النووي الإيراني وفرضها حصارا يحظر جميع العلاقات التجارية مع طهران مؤشرا خطيرا جعل أوروبا تدرك مدى ضعفها وعجزها، إذ لم تجد وسيلة للهروب من الإملاءات الأمريكية لسبب واحد هو الدولار الذي تسمح القوانين لأمريكا بمحاكمة جميع الشركات التي تستخدمه.
