QDB Participates in International Conference on Development Financing Institutions

Doha: Qatar Development Bank (QDB) on Wednesday took part in the international conference on Development Financing Institutions, held virtually under the theme “Enabling Technology for Sustainable Development” with the participation of financial institutions from Asian and the Pacific.

The conference discussed issues of development, the role of technology in addressing the economic and social consequences of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and ways to move forward in the process of development and growth.

The conference was held under the supervision of the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP), the Association of Development Finance Institutions of Malaysia (ADFIM), and the Association of National Development Finance Institutions in Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank (ADFIMI).

The conference aimed at discussing ways of joint action between international development institutions, exchanging experiences and benefiting from the successes of the participating members, in a bid to address the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and overcome the its related challenges that hindered the development process in many countries around the world.

Qatar Development Bank received an invitation to participate in the conference as one of the most prominent development financial institutions in Asia and the world, which was able to transform the pandemic challenge into an opportunity to accelerate the digital transformation strategy, the latest of which was the launch of the digital platform “NUMU”, along with many other digital solutions in all fields that benefited the Banks customers in the midst of the pandemic. QDB oversees the first business environment in West Asia and North Africa, and the third at the global level according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor in 2019.

Among the speakers at the conference were Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia Haji Amzad bin Mohamed, CEO of the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation Dato Norhalim Yunus, and Director of Customer Experience Department at Qatar Development Bank Amna Ahmed Al Mazrouei.

Brining together more than 1500 participants from 23 countries, the conference touched on several economic topics including digital and technological transformation and its expected prospects to contribute to a new economic renaissance around the world, and the role of financial development institutions in enabling technology to support the sustainable development goals. It focused on the necessity of a comprehensive approach when talking about economic development in a way that includes development in all sectors, including education, health, social development and increasing job opportunities, while addressing issues of climate change and environmental protection.

الدوحة: شارك بنك قطر للتنمية، الأمس، في المؤتمر الدولي للمؤسسات المالية التنموية والذي أقيم “عن بعد”، تحت عنوان “تمكين التكنولوجيا من أجل التنمية المستدامة”، وشاركت فيها عدة مؤسسات مالية من منطقة آسيا والمحيط الهادي.

وناقش المؤتمر قضايا التنمية، ودور التكنولوجيا في مواجهة تبعات جائحة كورونا الاقتصادية والاجتماعية، وسبل المضي قدمًا في مسيرة الاستدامة والنمو.

وأقيم المؤتمر تحت إدارة وإشراف من جمعية المؤسسات المالية التنموية في آسيا والمحيط الهادئ، وجمعية مؤسسة التنمية المالية في ماليزيا، وجمعية مؤسسات تمويل التنمية الوطنية في الدول الأعضاء بالبنك الإسلامي للتنمية، وهدف لفتح آفاق النقاش وسبل العمل المشترك بين المؤسسات التنموية الدولية، لمشاركة الخبرات والاستفادة من نجاحات الأعضاء المشاركين، أملاً في التصدي لتبعات جائحة كورونا والتغلب على التحديات التي رافقتها وأعاقت مسيرة النهضة للعديد من الدول حول العالم.

وتلقى بنك قطر للتنمية الدعوة للمشاركة في المؤتمر بصفته من أبرز المؤسسات المالية التنموية في آسيا والعالم، والتي استطاعت تحويل تحدي الجائحة إلى فرصة للتسريع من إستراتيجية التحول الرقمي، التي كان آخرها إطلاق منصة “نمو” الرقمية، والتي توجت مسيرة البنك في التحول الرقمي في العام الماضي، إلى جانب العديد من الحلول الرقمية الأخرى في كافة المجالات والتي استفاد منها عملاء البنك في خضم الجائحة، جاذبًا بذلك الأنظار إليه للاستفادة من تجربته الناجحة، فضلاً عن كون بنك قطر للتنمية يشرف على بيئة الأعمال الأولى في غرب آسيا وشمال أفريقيا، والثالثة على المستوى العالمي وفقًا للمرصد العالمي لريادة الأعمال في عام 2019.

وشارك من ضمن المتحدثين في المؤتمر السيد حاج أمزاد بن محمد، نائب وزير العلوم والتكنولوجيا والابتكار الماليزي، والسيد داتو نور حليم يونس، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة ماليزيا لتطوير التكنولوجيا، والسيدة آمنة أحمد المزروعي، مديرة إدارة تجربة العملاء في بنك قطر للتنمية.

وناقش المؤتمر، الذي شارك فيه أكثر من 1500 شخص من 23 دولة، عدة قضايا اقتصادية على رأسها التحول الرقمي والتكنولوجي وآفاقه المتوقعة للمساهمة في نهضة اقتصادية جديدة حول العالم، ودور مؤسسات التنمية المالية في تمكين التكنولوجيا لدعم أهداف التنمية المستدامة.

وركز المؤتمر على ضرورة المقاربة الشاملة عند الحديث عن التنمية الاقتصادية بشكل يشمل التنمية في جميع القطاعات، بما في ذلك التعليم والصحة والتنمية الاجتماعية وزيادة فرص العمل، مع معالجة قضايا تغير المناخ وحماية البيئة.

ويشهد العالم حاليًا تراجعاً اقتصادياً قوياً هو الأول من نوعه منذ نهايات القرن الماضي، مع تزايد معدلات البطالة وخسارة عدد كبير من الشركات لأعمالها وحالات الإغلاق الاقتصادي التي طالت عدة بلدان، إلى جانب انكماش التجارة العالمية والسياحة، الأمر الذي يهدد بدفع 71 مليون شخص إلى الفقر.
