Nasser al-Attiyah seeks to reduce the gap in Dakar Rally

Doha: World champion Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah finished the seventh stage of the Dakar International Rally 2021, in its 43rd edition in Saudi Arabia in fourth place, after our champion faced problems that prevented him from narrowing the gap with French leader Peter Hansel, who extended the lead to 7.53 minutes after yesterday’s stage.

Our champion Al Attiyah, along with his French navigator Matthew Bomel, clocked a time of 4:24.47 hours, 2.48 minutes in the New Toyota Hilux behind Saudi driver Yazid Al Rajhi, who won this stage by 4:21.59 hours, while Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel finished in 4:21.59 hours in second place 48 seconds behind Al Rajhi, in 4:22.47 hours to extend the French driver’s lead at the top of the rally to 7.53 from our champion Al Attiyah, while the veteran Spaniard Carlos Sainz came in third place in 4:23.14 hours and 1.15 minutes difference from the Saudi leader.

The seventh stage (marathon stage) was held between Hail and Skaka for 737 kilometres, of which 471 kilometres was a special stage, in which participants did not receive any assistance in Skaka depending solely on themselves.

Our champion Al-Attiyah suffered a perforation in the wheel of his car, which caused him to be disabled for some time in favour of Peter Hansel, and our champion needs to push forward in today’s marathon stage also in order to reduce the difference in the lead by reaching the eighth stage.

The eighth stage takes place between Skaka and Nium, 709 kilometres, of which 375 kilometres is a special stage, with participants heading to the Red Sea for the final part of the 375-kilometre marathon, a short distance for the marathon stage. The two most important parts of this stage: the first, where the paths are sandy with rocks, the participants should be careful not to be exposed to perforations, as there are many intersections, and navigational requirements. In the second part of the phase, participants will pass through the Nium region, where the sandy valleys near Nium, and magnificent paths surrounded by rocky hills rising more than 200 meters.

Our hero Al-Attiyah said: Thank God we finished the marathon stage, it is not easy to run the marathon after the day of rest, we suffered a perforation in the tires, and then we were careful to avoid the breakdown of anything in the car, it was a long stage, 450 km long without maintenance, the car is excellent and we hope well in today’s stage, we are still close to Stefan Peterhansel and there remains a lot until the end of the stage, it is hard to compare a buggy with a 4×4.”

In the T4 category «SSV» driver Khalifa Saleh Al-Attiyah with his Italian navigator Paolo Cska, in 10th place in 5:39.06 hours, 23.32 minutes behind Chilean Francisco Lopez, the winner of the stage in 5:15.34 hours, to find our champion Khalifa Saleh in ninth place in the overall standings of this category, with a total time of 35:03.29 hours, with a time of 2:32.56 hours behind the leader of the overall standings Polish Aaron Domazala.

In the same category T4, the Qatari team consisting of Ahmed al-Kuwari and his compatriot Nasser al-Kuwari participate on board the Yamaha (YXZ) 1000 R.

الدوحة: أنهى البطل العالمي ناصر صالح العطية المرحلة السابعة من رالي داكار الدولي 2021 ، في نسخته ال 43 والمقام في المملكة العربية السعودية في المركز الرابع، بعد أن واجه بطلنا مشاكل حرمته من تقليص الفارق مع المتصدر الفرنسي بيتر هانسل الذي وسع الفارق في الصدارة إلى 7.53 دقيقة بعد مرحلة الأمس.

وسجل بطلنا العطية بصحبة ملاحه الفرنسي ماثيو بوميل على متن سيارة «تويوتا هايلوكس الجديدة» زمنًا قدره 4:24.47 ساعات، متأخرًا بفارق 2.48 دقيقة عن السائق السعودي يزيد الراجحي الذي توج بلقب هذه المرحلة، بزمن 4:21.59 ساعات، فيما حل الفرنسي ستيفان بيترهانسل في المركز الثاني بفارق 48 ثانية عن الراجحي، وبزمن 4:22.47 ساعات ليوسع السائق الفرنسي الفارق في صدارة التريب العام للرالي إلى 7.53 عن بطلنا العطية، فيما جاء الإسباني المخضرم كارلوس ساينز في المركز الثالث بزمن 4:23.14 ساعات وبفارق 1.15 دقيقة عن المتصدر السعودي.

وأقيمت المرحلة السابعة (مرحلة الماراثون) ما بين حائل وسكاكا لمسافة 737 كيلومترًا، منها 471 كيلومتر مرحلة خاصة، ولم يحصل المشاركون فيها على أية مساعدة في «سكاكا» بالاعتماد على أنفسهم فقط.

وتعرض بطلنا العطية لانثقاب في إطار سيارته وهو ما تسبب في تعطله لبعض الوقت لصالح بيترهانسل، ويحتاج بطلنا للضعط في مرحلة اليوم الماراثونية أيضًا من أجل تقليص الفارق في الصدارة مع الوصول للمرحلة الثامنة.

وتقام المرحلة الثامنة بين سكاكا ونيوم، لمسافة 709كيلومترات منها 375 كيلومترًا مرحلة خاصة، حيث يتوجه المشاركون إلى البحر الأحمر لخوض الجزء الأخير من المرحلة الماراثونية وطولها 375 كيلومترًا، إنها مسافة قصيرة بالنسبة لمرحلة ماراثونية. وأهم قسمين في هذه المرحلة: الأول حيث المسارات رملية مع صخور، على المشاركين الحذر فيها لكيلا يتعرضوا لانثقابات، كما أن هنالك الكثير من تقاطعات الطرق، ومن المتطلبات الملاحية. وفي القسم الثاني من المرحلة سيمر المشاركون بمنطقة نيوم، حيث الوديان الرملية قرب نيوم، ومسارات رائعة تحيط بها تلال صخرية ترتفع أكثر من 200 متر.

وقال بطلنا العطية: الحمد لله أنهينا المرحلة الماراثونية، ليس من السهل خوض المرحلة الماراثونية بعد يوم الراحة، عانينا من انثقاب في الإطارات، وبعدها كنا حذرين لتفادي تعطُّل أي شيءٍ في السيارة، لقد كانت مرحلةً طويلة، طولها 450 كيلومترًا من دون صيانة، السيارة مُمتازة ونأمل خيرًا في مرحلة اليوم، لا زلنا قريبين من ستيفان بيترهانسل وهنالك الكثير حتى نهاية المرحلة من الصعب مُقارعة سيارة باغي مع سيارة دفع رُباعي».

وفي فئة تي 4 «SSV» جاء السائق خليفة صالح العطية مع ملّاحه الإيطالي باولو سيسكا، في المركز العاشر بزمن 5:39.06 ساعات، وبفارق 23.32 دقيقة عن التشيلي فرانسيسكو لوبيز الفائز بالمرحلة بزمن 5:15.34 ساعات، ليوجد بطلنا خليفة صالح في المركز التاسع بالترتيب العام لهذه الفئة، بزمن إجمالي 35:03.29 ساعة، وبفارق 2:32.56 ساعة عن متصدر الترتيب العام البولندي آرون دومازلا.

وفي نفس الفئة «تي 4»، يُشارك الفريق القطري المكون من أحمد الكواري بصحبة ملّاحه ومُواطنه ناصر الكواري على متن سيارة ياماها (YXZ) 1000 R.
