Qatar, India Enjoy Strong Economic Relations

Doha: Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar praised the close relations linking his country with the State of Qatar, terming them as ‘historic and robust’.

His Excellency stressed his country’s interest in developing cooperation ties with Qatar in economic and commercial areas, as well as attracting more Qatari investments to India. He also called upon Qatari businessmen and investors to invest in India which offers a variety of opportunities in various economic sectors.

This came during a meeting held on Sunday with officials from Qatar Chamber (QC) and Qatar Businessmen Association (QBA). The meeting was attended by HE QC Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani, HE QBA Chairman Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani, HE Ambassador of India to the State of Qatar Dr. Deepak Mittal and many QC board members and Qatari and Indian businessmen.

The meeting reviewed cooperation relations between the Qatari private sector and its Indian counterpart and identified investment opportunities available in both sides.

During the meeting, the Indian Minister reviewed the efforts made by India to contain the spread of Covid-19, noting that the Indian economy resorted its activity last September and started currently to recover from the crisis repercussions.

For his part, HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani praised the strong and close relations which linked Qatar and India at all levels, especially the economic and trade fields, pointing out that India is an important trade partner for Qatar, while Qatar is the largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India.

His Excellency noted that Qatar has managed to curb the spread of Covid-19 and benefiting from the blockade experiment imposed on it for more than three years, pointing out that India was among the first countries to launch direct marine route with Hamad Port in the very beginning of the blockade.

He also said that the two countries’ bilateral trade reached $10.5 billion, while it stood at $6.3 billion at the end of the third quarter of this year despite the current circumstances of Covid-19.

HE QC Chairman emphasized that the Qatar Chamber supports forging partnerships between both sides, noting that there exists a large scope of opportunities for Indian businessmen to expand their business in Qatar, especially that Qatar offers an advanced infrastructure, appropriate economic legislation, and an attractive business environment.

His Excellency expressed his hope that the meeting would help in fostering cooperation ties and exploring new areas of cooperation and partnership between business sectors of both countries.

On his part, HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani lauded the strong relation between both countries in economic and commercial fields, noting that most Qatari businessmen have business partnerships with Indian companies, and they have Indian managers in their companies, stressing that India was the first commercial destination for Qatari businessmen.

His Excellency also emphasized the Qatari businessmen’s firm desire to strengthen cooperation relations with their Indian counterparts, expressing his hope that mutual visits between them will be resumed after the Covid-19 ends.

He also said that Qatari firms have been present in international markets, stressing that this offers a good opportunity for them to build successful partnership with Indian counterparts whether in India or Qatar or in other country.

الدوحة: أشاد سعادة الدكتور إس. جايشانكار وزير الشؤون الخارجية بجمهورية الهند، بالعلاقات الوثيقة التي تربط بين بلاده ودولة قطر، ووصفها بالتاريخية والمتينة.

وأكد سعادته رغبة بلاده في تعزيز تعاونها مع قطر خصوصا في المجالات الاقتصادية والتجارية، وجلب الاستثمارات القطرية الى الهند، كما دعا رجال الأعمال القطريين الى الاستثمار في الهند في قطاعات اقتصادية متنوعة.

جاء ذلك خلال لقاء سعادة الوزير يوم الأمس مع المسؤولين في غرفة قطر ورابطة رجال الأعمال القطريين بحضور سعادة الشيخ خليفة بن جاسم آل ثاني رئيس غرفة قطر وسعادة الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني رئيس رابطة رجال الاعمال القطريين، وسعادة الدكتور ديباك ميتال سفير جمهورية الهند لدى الدولة وعدد من المسؤولين ورجال الأعمال في الجانبين.

تم خلال اللقاء بحث سبل تعزيز علاقات التعاون بين القطاع الخاص القطري ونظيره الهندي، والتعرف على الفرص الاستثمارية المتاحة في كلا البلدين.

واستعرض وزير الشؤون الخارجية الهندي في سياق متصل جهود بلاده في مكافحة انتشار فيروس كورونا، والإجراءات الاحترازية التي اتخذتها في هذا الاطار ، حيث قامت بإغلاق تام وصارم ، مكنها من التعامل مع الجائحة بطريقة جيدة، لافتا الى ان النشاط الاقتصادي بدأ بالعودة في بلاده اعتبارا من سبتمبر الماضي ، وانه الان في طور التعافي، ومن المتوقع أن يعود الاقتصاد الهندي الى النمو اعتبارا من العام المقبل.

من جهته ثمن سعادة الشيخ خليفة بن جاسم آل ثاني العلاقات المتميزة والمتينة التي تربط دولة قطر وجمهورية الهند على كافة المستويات وخاصة المجالات الاقتصادية والتجارية، منوهاً بأن الهند تعتبر شريكا تجاريا مهما لدولة قطر، التي تعد أكبر مورّد للغاز الطبيعي المسال إليها . وأشاد كذلك بالجالية الهندية في قطر والتي تتواجد في مختلف الشركات القطرية وبمختلف المستويات.

وأشار سعادته الى ان دولة قطر نجحت في التعامل مع جائحة كورونا واستفادت من خبرتها في التعامل مع الحصار الذي تتعرض له منذ اكثر من ثلاث سنوات، مبينا أن الهند كانت من اوائل الدول التي افتتحت خطوط شحن بحرية مباشرة مع ميناء حمد عندما تم افتتاحه بتزامن مع الحصار.

وأوضح سعادته أن حجم التبادل التجاري بين البلدين خلال العام الماضي بلغ 10.5 مليار دولار، مشيراً الى أنه بالرغم من الظروف التي فرضتها جائحة كورونا الا أن التجارة الثنائية بين البلدين قد تجاوزت 6.3 مليار دولار في نهاية الربع الثالث من العام الجاري.

وعبر سعادة الشيخ خليفة بن جاسم عن دعم غرفة قطر لتعزيز آفاق التعاون والشراكة بين القطاع الخاص في البلدين، ونوه بأن المجال مفتوح أمام أصحاب الأعمال الهنود لزيادة أعمالهم في قطر خاصة في ظل وجود بنية تحتية متطور وتشريعات اقتصادية مناسبة وبيئة أعمال جاذبة للاستثمارات.

كما أعرب عن أمله في أن يحقق هذا اللقاء مزيداً من التقارب، وأن يسهم في استكشاف آفاق جديدة للتعاون والشراكة بين الجانبين، وأن يكون خطوة للأمام نحو تطوير الشراكة وتعزيز الاستثمارات المتبادلة وزيادة التجارة الثنائية وتوسيع التعاون في كافة القطاعات.

من جانبه أشاد سعادة الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني رئيس رابطة رجال الاعمال القطريين بالعلاقات الوطيدة بين قطر والهند خصوصا في المجالات التجارية والاقتصادية والاستثمارية، واصفا إياها بالتاريخية والعميقة، ونوه أن معظم رجال الأعمال القطريين لديهم شراكات مع شركات هندية، ولديهم في شركاتهم مديرون هنود، موضحا أن أول وجهة تجارية لرجال الاعمال القطريين كانت الى الهند.

وأشار الى ان هنالك رغبة قوية لدى رجال الاعمال القطريين لتعزيز علاقات التعاون مع نظرائهم الهنود، منوها بانه يأمل بعد انتهاء جائحة كورنا ان يتم تنظيم زيارات متبادلة لرجال الاعمال القطريين والهنود الى كل من قطر والهند لتعزيز علاقات التعاون وإقامة تحالفات اقتصادية وتجارية مشتركة.

وتابع سعادته قائلا إن الشركات القطرية تتمتع بتنافسية عالمية، واصبحت متواجدة في الاسواق العالمية ، ومن الممكن ان تتشارك مع نظيراتها الهندية و تستثمر سواء في الهند أو قطر أو حول العالم في أسواق أخرى.
