Doha: Qatar University (QU) honored the winners of the 5th Korea International Youth Olympiad in 2020 and the winners of AKHLAQUNA Competition today at Ibn Khaldoon Hall in the presence of the Korean Ambassador and the President of Qatar University, Dr. Hassan Al Derham.

Dr. Hassan honored the winning students of the Fifth Korea International Youth Olympiad in 2020 and the winners of AKHLAQUNA Competition in the presence of HE Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the State of Qatar Chang-Mo Kim.

The announcement of two groups of students winning five prizes, including a gold and bronze, and three special awards came in October 12, 2020. The Olympiad is one of the internationally known competitions to attract young researchers and inventors and prepare them to be future world leaders and to refine their skills and talents that will lead the era of the knowledge-based economy. The competition also aims to expand the horizons and perceptions of the participants by sharing their experiences and expertise with inventors from all over the world.

In a statement, President of Qatar University said: “Today we celebrate a group of our students who have made outstanding achievements, in both; International competitions, winners of the fifth Korea International Youth Olympiad 2020 and who have initiated humanitarian initiatives with noble goals, our students’ achievement of these privileged awards is a source of pride for Qatar and Qatar University.”

The Korean ambassador said during his speech, “I would like to congratulate the awarded students on winning the gold and bronze medal and special awards at the fifth Korea International Youth Olympiad this year. You showed your brilliance and creativity. I would also extend my congratulations to Qatar University Young Scientist Center that these brilliant students must have inspired and encouraged these students to present with confidence their innovative projects to the international stage. I have no doubt that Qatar University and innovative young scientists will continue to play a very important role in further developing science of this country. I look forward to seeing various ways in which the young generation of our two countries will work together to make our common future better and by doing so, to further strengthen our bilateral relationship in the years to come,” HE added.

The President of Qatar University honored the students of the “I appreciate” initiative, the winners of this year’s “AKHLAQUNA” competition.

It is noteworthy that the members of the “Yes, I Can” initiative carried out a series of campaigns aimed at highlighting the role of people with special needs in all social, charitable, academic, economic and environmental aspects. 

In turn, the Director of the Young Scientists Center Noora Al-Thani expressed her pride in the winning students and said, “The center always seeks to provide opportunities and full support for students to participate in international conferences and competitions to present their inventions and projects that have been developed at Qatar University.

This is of great benefit to them to give them the experience in project development and presentation, she added.

Two group of students from QU’s Young Scientists Centre won a gold and bronze award each in the Fifth Korea International Youth Olympiad, in addition to three special awards in October .

Sherifa Al Mohannadi, a student at the college of Chemical Engineering at Qatar University, won gold and a special award in the “Best of Best” category from individual entries. In addition to a special award presented by the Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association for a research titled “Marine degradable plastic based on soybean by products”.

High school students Sara Al Maadeed and Sham Al Homsi won the bronze prize and a special award in the category of “Team Competition for Creativity”, for submitting a project titled “Fabricate Biodegradable Polymer Nanocomposites for Transparent and Eco-friendly Electronics”. This project aims to manage electronic wastes by making electronic products that biodegrade naturally and quickly without harming the environment.

The members of the “Yes, I Can” initiative carried out a series of campaigns aimed at highlighting the role of people with special needs in all social, charitable, academic, economic and environmental aspects.

It is noteworthy that the “Our Ethics” award, launched by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), in 2017, confirms the close connection between science and good morals, and reinforces the message of ethics as a basis for success in all spheres of life.

الدوحة: كرمت جامعة قطر، في احتفالية خاصة، الطلبة المتميزين الفائزين في أولمبياد كوريا الدولي الخامس للشباب 2020، وكذلك طلبة مبادرة /أنا أقدر/ الجامعية الفائزين بجائزة /أخلاقنا/ التابعة لمؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع في نسختها الثالثة هذا العام.

وفي كلمته خلال الاحتفالية، التي حضرها سعادة السيد كيم تشانغ مو سفير جمهورية كوريا لدى الدولة، أشاد الدكتور حسن الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر، بالإنجازات التي حققها طلبة الجامعة خلال العام الجاري، لاسيما الفائزين بأولمبياد كوريا الدولي الخامس للشباب، وكذلك الحاصلين على جائزة /أخلاقنا/.

وقال “نحتفل اليوم بمجموعة من أبنائنا وبناتنا الذين حققوا إنجازات متميزة، سواء في المسابقات الدولية وهم الفائزون في أولمبياد كوريا الدولي الخامس للشباب 2020، أو ممن بادروا بمبادرات إنسانية ذات أهداف نبيلة، وهم طلابنا في مبادرة /أنا أقدر/ الفائزة بجائزة /أخلاقنا/ لهذا العام”.. مؤكدا أن حصول طلبة الجامعة على هذه الجوائز المتميزة هو مصدر فخر بالنسبة لدولة قطر وجامعتها الوطنية.

بدوره هنأ سعادة السفير الكوري، الطالبات على فوزهن بالميدالية الذهبية والبرونزية والجوائز الخاصة في أولمبياد كوريا الدولي الخامس للشباب هذا العام.. وقال: “لقد أظهرتن تألقكن وإبداعكن، وهذا بالتأكيد ما يطلق عليه الإنجازات والنجاحات الرائعة”.

كما تقدم سعادة السفير الكوري بالتهنئة إلى مركز العلماء الشباب بجامعة قطر الذي ينتمي إليه هؤلاء الطلاب المتفوقون.. مضيفا: “من الواضح أن البرامج المتنوعة للمركز والدعم الكامل للطلاب قد ألهمت وشجعت الطالبات على تقديم مشاريعهن المبتكرة بثقة إلى المسرح الدولي، وليس لدي شك في أن جامعة قطر والعلماء الشباب المبتكرين سيواصلون القيام بدور مهم للغاية في هذا المجال”.

وأكد سعادته على متانة العلاقات القطرية الكورية، وما يتمتع به البلدان من إمكانيات كبيرة لزيادة تعزيز التعاون في العديد من المجالات.. مشيرا إلى أوجه التشابه الكبيرة بينهما، بما في ذلك حرصهما على التعليم والدبلوماسية، فضلا عن التفوق في مجالات تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات، وتمتع البلدين بالقيادة الحكيمة التي ترعى استراتيجيات التنمية، وغيرها الكثير.

ولفت إلى أن مجال التعليم على وجه الخصوص هو أحد المجالات الحاسمة التي لها إمكانات وأهمية كبيرة للبلدان ولأجيال المستقبل.. مضيفا “هؤلاء العلماء الشباب في دولة قطر الذين قاموا بعمل رائع في كوريا جعلنا جميعا سعداء ومتحمسين، ونحن نشهد بالفعل المستقبل الواعد لهذا البلد مع هؤلاء العلماء الشباب الموهوبين”.

بدورها أعربت الدكتورة نورة آل ثاني مديرة مركز العلماء الشباب، عن فخرها بالطالبات الفائزات اللاتي حظين بدعم كامل من مركز جامعة قطر للعلماء الشباب.. وقالت “يسعى المركز دائما إلى توفير الفرص والدعم الكامل للطلاب للمشاركة في المؤتمرات والمسابقات العالمية، بهدف عرض اختراعاتهم ومشاريعهم التي تم تطويرها في جامعة قطر”.

وأوضحت أن المركز يسعى ببرامجه البحثية والعلمية العديدة في مجالات البحوث إلى توفير بيئة تستقطب الشباب القطري للاندماج في تجارب تعليمية ترفع من مستواهم الأكاديمي والفكري، وتزيد من كفاءتهم كقادة مستقبليين.

وفازت مجموعتان من طالبات مركز جامعة قطر للعلماء الشباب بخمس جوائز في الأولمبياد الدولي، بكوريا في أكتوبر الماضي منها ذهبية وبرونزية، إضافة إلى ثلاث جوائز أخرى.

وتعد أولمبياد كوريا للشباب من المسابقات المعروفة عالميا لجذب الباحثين والمخترعين الشباب وتهيئتهم، وصقل مهاراتهم ومواهبهم التي ستقود عصر الاقتصاد المبني على المعرفة، كما تهدف المسابقة إلى توسيع آفاق ومدارك المشاركين، من خلال تبادل تجاربهم وخبراتهم مع مخترعين من جميع أنحاء العالم.

وفازت شريفة المهندي، الطالبة في قسم الهندسة الكيميائية بجامعة قطر بالذهبية وجائزة خاصة في فئة /أفضل ابتكار/ من المشاركات الفردية، بالإضافة إلى جائزة خاصة مقدمة من الجمعية الإندونيسية لتشجيع الاختراع والابتكار، وذلك عن بحث بعنوان: /البلاستيك القابل للتحلل من قشور فول الصويا/.

كما فازت سارة المعاضيد وشام الحمصي، وهما طالبتان في المرحلة الثانوية بالجائزة البرونزية وجائزة خاصة عن فئة /المسابقة الجماعية للإبداع/، وذلك لتقديمهما مشروعا بعنوان /بوليمر مركب قابل للتحلل للإلكترونيات الشفافة والصديقة للبيئة/، يهدف إلى التخلص من النفايات الإلكترونية عن طريق صنع منتجات إلكترونية قابلة للتحلل، مما يساعد في التخلص منها بصورة طبيعية وسريعة، ودون إلحاق الضرر بالبيئة.

أما طلبة مبادرة /أنا أقدر/ الفائزون بجائزة /أخلاقنا/ هذا العام، فقاموا بسلسلة حملات تهدف إلى إبراز دور الأشخاص ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة في كافة النواحي الاجتماعية والخيرية والأكاديمية والاقتصادية والبيئية.

يشار إلى أن جائزة /أخلاقنا/، أطلقتها صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، في العام 2017، تأكيدا على الارتباط الوثيق بين العلم والأخلاق الحميدة، وتعزيزا لرسالة الأخلاق كأساس للنجاح في شتى مناحي الحياة.
