Qatar University Organizes International Conference on COVID-19 Impact on Education

Doha: Qatar University’s National Center For Educational Development (NCED) held an international virtual conference entitled “COVID-19: A Game Changer in Education: Reconnecting Virtually”, with the participation of 3500 experts, educators and those interested in educational issues from Qatar and abroad.

The conference discussed the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the educational process at the local, Arab and international levels, and laid out some practical solutions to the problems associated with those effects by researchers, practitioners and science students in their postgraduate studies.

The conference also highlighted topics related to teachers, students, parents and all those interested in educational issues in accordance with the conferences multiple core themes. Educational issues were raised with a number of decision-makers and educational policy makers, as well as various educational experiences during the time of the pandemic in the United States, Europe and the Arab world.

On a speech on the occasion, President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham noted the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on the educational field at the global level.

He said that such educational forums give the opportunity for educators to clearly identify the situation at their educational institutions and with their students, in addition to the challenges they are facing the ways to overcoming them, in accordance with best practices and research-supported applications.

Dr. Al Derham noted that the quality of conferences and forums in this exceptional circumstance is being judged by the practical solutions they offer and the possible practices for educators, far from theories or inapplicable recommendations. He underlined the importance of this conference as it allocated an important space to monitor, study and analyze the reality of the response of educational policymakers and decision-makers to the effects of the pandemic on the educational systems in university and pre-university education.

He explained that monitoring and tracking the educational reality in light of the coronavirus crisis allows for making possible deliberate changes to the curricula of the educational institutions and the methods of learning, noting that there are international, Arab and local education systems or institutions that have succeeded in absorbing the shock of the pandemic and quickly restoring balance to their educational system.

For his part, Director of the National Center For Educational Development Dr. Abdullah Abu-Tineh said that the conference included nine virtual rooms discussed 75 research papers on the educational policies in light of the COVID-19, parent participation, blended learning and distance learning, special needs learning, e-learning challenges, various strategies in evaluating distance learning students, teaching strategies and classroom management, as well as the practices, prospects and professional development in light of the COVID-19.

The conference also included seven other virtual rooms that included 14 workshops in themes dealt with teaching strategies for mathematics teachers, classroom interaction, interactive educational applications, student participation in online learning, blended evaluation and remote evaluation, achievement files and electronic tests, and various strategies in evaluating distance learning students.

الدوحة: عقدت جامعة قطر المؤتمر الدولي الأول للمركز الوطني للتطوير التربوي والذي جاء تحت شعار “كوفيد-19 يغير قواعد اللعبة في التعليم – إعادة التواصل افتراضيا”، بمشاركة 3500 من الخبراء والتربويين والمهتمين بالشأن التربوي داخل قطر وخارجها.

وناقش المؤتمر، الذي عقد عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي، تأثيرات الجائحة على العملية التعليمية على المستوى المحلي والعربي والدولي، مستعرضا بعض الحلول التطبيقية للإشكاليات المرتبطة بها من قبل باحثين وممارسين وطلبة علم في مراحل دراساتهم الجامعية العليا.

كما تضمن المؤتمر موضوعات مرتبطة بالمعلمين والطلبة وأولياء الأمور وكل المهتمين بالقضايا التربوية وفق محاور المؤتمر الأساسية المتعددة، بالإضافة إلى مناقشة قضايا تربوية مع عدد من صانعي القرار وواضعي السياسات التربوية، وعرض تجارب متنوعة للتعليم في زمن كورونا من الولايات المتحدة وأوروبا والعالم العربي.

وفي كلمته بهذه المناسبة، أشار الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر، إلى تداعيات جائحة كورونا على المجال التربوي والتعليمي على المستوى العالمي، وقال إن الجائحة داهمت الجميع، دون أن تكون هناك خطط للمواجهة، ولا بديل عن الاستجابة السريعة لطبيعتها وتأثيراتها، والتقليل ما أمكن من نتائجها وأخطارها.

وأضاف أن مثل هذه الملتقيات التربوية تشكل ملاذات آمنة للتربويين، وخاصة للممارسين منهم في تقديم رصد صادق لواقعهم المعاش في مؤسساتهم التربوية ومع طلبتهم، والتحديات التي يواجهونها وسبل التغلب عليها، وفق منظومة من الممارسات الفضلى والتطبيقات المدعومة بحثيا.

ولفت إلى أن جودة المؤتمرات والملتقيات في هذا الظرف الاستثنائي بات يحكم عليه من خلال ما تقدمه من حلول تطبيقية، وممارسات ممكنة في متناول التربويين بعيدا عن التنظير الصرف أو التوصيات غير القابلة للتطبيق.

وأكد الدكتور الدرهم أن أهمية هذا المؤتمر تنبع من تخصيصه مساحة مهمة لرصد واقع استجابة صانعي السياسيات التعليمية وأصحاب القرار فيها، لتأثيرات الجائحة في الأنظمة التربوية في التعليم الجامعي وما قبل الجامعي، وتتبع هذه الاستجابات بالدراسة والتحليل.

وأشار إلى أن هذا الرصد والتتبع للواقع التعليمي في ظل أزمة كورونا، يتيح إمكانية إجراء تغييرات محتملة مدروسة على مناهج المؤسسات التعليمية وطرائق التعليم فيها، من خلال عرض لتنظيمات منهجية وأنشطة وأساليب تعليمية، تستند إلى فعالية المتعلم واستقلال تعلمه، ودور الوالدين الداعم لذلك.. منوها بأن هناك تجارب دولية وعربية ومحلية لأنظمة تربوية أو مؤسسات تعليمية، نجحت في استيعاب صدمة الجائحة وإعادة التوازن سريعا لمنظومتها التربوية.

وفي كلمة له، قال الدكتور عبد الله أبو تينة، مدير المركز الوطني للتطوير التربوي “إن اختيار عنوان المؤتمر ومحاوره وموضوعات جلساته، جاءت استجابة لما يشهده العالم من تغير واضح في أساليب التعليم واستراتيجياته، وإعادة النظر في طبيعة التواصل وآلياته، واحتدام النقاش حول الاستمرار في تقليدية التعليم أو تهجينه أو مكننته”.

وتضمن المؤتمر تسع غرف افتراضية ناقشت 75 ورقة بحثية حول السياسات التربوية في ظل كوفيد-19، ومشاركة أولياء الأمور، والتعلم المدمج والتعلم عن بعد، وتعلم ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة، وتحديات التعلم الإلكتروني، والاستراتيجيات المتنوعة في تقويم تعلم الطلبة عن بعد، واستراتيجيات التدريس والإدارة الصفية، والممارسات والتوقعات في ظل كوفيد-19، والتنمية المهنية في ظل الجائحة.

كما تضمن المؤتمر كذلك سبع غرف افتراضية أخرى تضمنت 14 ورشة عمل في محاور، تناولت استراتيجيات تدريس لمعلمي الرياضيات، والتفاعل الصفي، وتطبيقات تعليمية تفاعلية، ومشاركة الطلبة في التعلم عبر الإنترنت، والتقييم المدمج والتقييم عن بعد، وملفات الإنجاز والاختبارات الإلكترونية، واستراتيجيات متنوعة في تقويم تعلم الطلبة عن بعد.

وقدم المؤتمر للممارسين رصدا للواقع المعاش في المؤسسات التربوية، والتحديات التي يواجهها الطلبة وسبل التغلب عليها وفق منظومة من الممارسات الفضلى والتطبيقات المدعومة بحثيا والحلول التطبيقية والممارسات الممكنة للتربويين.
