Ashghal Launches Pilot Project to Improve, Rehabilitate Roads Network

Doha: As part of the preventive operation and maintenance plans for Qatar’s road network, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ launched a pilot project to apply the technology of Asphalt rejuvenation “fog seal” on a local road with a length of 1 km in Ain Khaled Area, to improve, preserve and extending its life.

This technique includes applying a bitumen layer mixed with different materials to restore the required elasticity of the asphalt and raise its efficiency, which in turn helps resist weather factors such as oxidation and hardness of the asphalt, isolates surface water and rainwater, prevents it from seeping into road layers, and helps asphalt resist cracks.

This technology, which is being used for the first time in Qatar, is implemented at an early stage on roads with slight defects to give a fresh appearance to the asphalt surface, and ensure that it’s free of defects.

On his part, Assistant Manager of Roads Operation and Maintenance Department Eng. Jamal Al Ansari commented: “With the rapid development and growth of the roads network and the increase in traffic loads, the challenges of preserving road efficiency and lifecycle are increasing. Therefore through the application of this technology, Ashghal aims to address these challenges aimed at enhancing traffic safety, reducing the total cost of road operation and maintenance, and enhancing customer satisfaction.”

This technology will be applied in different regions of the country in cooperation with consultants, contractors, and local suppliers, in proportion to the condition of each road, the traffic loads, and the most appropriate time for implementation, Al Ansari added.

It is worth noting that this technology is considered one of the quick maintenance solutions to restore the road network to its optimal shape and quality, as it takes only two hours to work on 1 km, and it can be applied in different colors for each lane on the road according to the type of use and their need.

It is worth mentioning that these works are part of Ashghal’s efforts to improve the existing services and utilities and upgrade the road network in several areas in the country, to cope with the national economic development and social growth requirements in Qatar.

الدوحة: أطلقت هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/ المرحلة التجريبية لتطبيق تقنية إعادة تأهيل الإسفلت /rejuvenation/ Fog seal/ على أحد الطرق المحلية بطول واحد كيلومتر بمنطقة عين خالد، بهدف تحسينه والحفاظ عليه وإطالة عمره، وذلك ضمن خطط التشغيل والصيانة الوقائية الخاصة بشبكة الطرق.

تتضمن هذه التقنية وضع طبقة /بيتومنية/ مع مواد مختلفة لإعادة المرونة المطلوبة لطبقة الإسفلت ورفع كفاءتها، مما يساعد على مقاومة العوامل الجوية مثل أكسدة وصلابة الطبقة السطحية للإسفلت وعزل المياه السطحية ومياه الأمطار ومنعها من التسرب إلى داخل طبقات الطرق ومساعدة الإسفلت على مقاومة الشروخ.

ويتم استخدام هذه التقنية، التي يتم تجربتها لأول مرة في دولة قطر، في مرحلة مبكرة من ظهور العيوب السطحية للإسفلت، بهدف إعطاء مظهر جديد خال من تلك العيوب.

وفي هذا الصدد أوضح المهندس جمال عيسى الأنصاري مساعد مدير إدارة تشغيل وصيانة الطرق، أنه مع التطور والنمو السريع لشبكة الطرق وزيادة الأحمال المرورية عليها تتزايد التحديات التي تواجه الحفاظ على كفاءتها وعمرها، لذلك تهدف /أشغال/ من خلال تطبيق هذه التقنية إلى مواجهة تلك التحديات وتعزيز السلامة المرورية وتقليل التكلفة الإجمالية لتشغيل وصيانة الطرق وتعزيز رضا العملاء.

وأضاف أنه سيتم توسعة تجربة تطبيق هذه التقنية في مناطق مختلفة من الدولة بالتعاون مع الاستشاريين والمقاولين والموردين المحليين، بما يتناسب مع حالة كل طريق والأحمال المرورية الواقعة عليه وأنسب وقت للتطبيق.

وتعتبر هذه التقنية أحد حلول الصيانة السريعة لإعادة حالة شبكة الطرق لجودتها وشكلها الأمثل حيث يستغرق العمل على كيلومتر واحد ساعتين فقط، كما يمكن تطبيقها بألوان مختلفة للمسارات في كل طريق على حسب نوع استخدامها وحاجتها.

وتعمل /أشغال/ على تطوير طرق وأساليب صيانة شبكات الطرق بإيجاد حلول رائدة للحفاظ على كفاءتها لعمر أطول، وذلك باستخدام أفضل الممارسات العالمية والآليات المتطورة مما يدعم استراتيجية الدولة لتحقيق التنمية المستدامة.
