Completion of Roads Leading to Some Sports and Service Facilities in Doha

Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced the completion of upgrading works of roads leading to some sports and service facilities in Doha, as part of the Road Improvement Works for Junctions and Roundabouts in Various Areas of Greater Doha (Phase 8). The project also involved the improvement of local infrastructure utilities and the construction of service roads, as part of Ashghal plan to improve the efficiency of the existing road network in Doha City.

Eng. Khaled Al-Quraishi, project engineer at the Western Areas Section in Ashghal Roads Projects Department, said: “The project’s completed works involved the construction of 1.4 km of new roads and the development of a service road, as well as upgrading and widening the existing local roads around Qatar Sports Club by adding more lanes to them including Al Istiqlal Street which has been expanded and improved through the project. In addition, two new roads were constructed; the first one links Al Istiqlal Street with the backside entrances of the club until Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, while the second road connects Khalifa Street with Qatar Sports Club. Both routes will serve as two new entrances to the club along with the existing one on Al-Markhiya Street.”

Eng. Al-Quraishi pointed out that “the project works helped significantly in facilitating access to the club, not to mention the regulation of traffic inside and outside the club. Through this project, we managed to reach the targeted traffic flow in the area, particularly while organizing sports events at the club and the complex.”

In addition to upgrading Qatar Sports Club’s road network and enhancing its connectivity with nearby main streets, the project’s scope of works involved the upgrading of the street lighting system and the installation of new lighting poles. Local infrastructure utilities were also rehabilitated and developed by constructing a 1-km-long surface water drainage network, and providing protection for the existing power lines, telecommunications cables and potable water networks.

Roads Operation and Maintenance Department rehabilitated and repaired the asphalt layer of roads surrounding the back entrances of the club and the roads leading to Khalifa International Tennis and Squash complex, with a length of 300 metres, in order to enhance traffic safety. This is in addition to paving and marking those roads and the surrounding sidewalks aiming at streamlining traffic flow for the sports facilities visitors in this area.

Eng. Al-Quraishi also added: “In line with Ashghal strategy to support local manufacturers and Qatari products, and as part of ‘Ta’heel’ initiative which was launched by the Authority in 2017, almost 90% of the project materials were produced and manufactured locally by Qatari manufacturers, and they were used to carry out most of the project works. These local materials include lighting poles and luminaires, directional signs, surface water drainage pipes, asphalt, prefabricated manholes, concrete, and reinforcement steel.

الدوحة: أعلنت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” عن الانتهاء من تنفيذ أعمال تطوير الطرق المؤدية لبعض المرافق الرياضية والخدمية بالدوحة، وتحسين خدمات البنية التحتية بالإضافة إلى توفير طرق خدمية، ضمن مشروع أعمال تحسين الطرق والتقاطعات والدوارات في مناطق عديدة في الدوحة الكبرى – المرحلة الثامنة، وذلك في سياق خطة الهيئة لرفع كفاءة الطرق وتحسين شبكة الطرق القائمة بمدينة الدوحة.

وقد أشار المهندس/ خالد القريشي، مهندس المشروع بقسم مشاريع المناطق الغربية، بإدارة مشروعات الطرق في “أشغال”، إلى أن الأعمال المنجزة ضمن نطاق المشروع شملت توفير 1.4 كم من الطرق الجديدة واستحداث طريق خدمي إلى جانب تطوير الطرق القائمة الداخلية والمحيطة بنادي قطر الرياضي وزيادة عدد مساراتها مثل شارع الاستقلال الذي تم توسعته ورفع كفاءته، كما تم توفير طريقين جديدين يربط الأول بين شارع الاستقلال والمداخل الخلفية للنادي وصولا إلى مجمع خليفة للتنس والإسكواش بينما يربط الثاني بين شارع خليفة والنادي ليشكلاَ مدخلين جديدين يخدمان نادي قطر الرياضي إلى جانب المدخل القائم من شارع المرخية.

كما أوضح المهندس القريشي أن أعمال المشروع ساهمت بشكل كبير في تسهيل الوصول إلى النادي وتنظيم الحركة المرورية داخله وخارجه كما ساعدت في تحقيق السيولة المرورية المستهدفة بالمنطقة لاسيما عند عقد الفعاليات الرياضية بالنادي والمجمع.

وفضلاً عن تطوير شبكة الطرق بنادي قطر الرياضي وتعزيز ربطه بالشوارع الرئيسية المجاورة له، تم ضمن نطاق المشروع تطوير نظام الإضاءة وتركيب أعمدة للإنارة وتطوير خدمات البنية التحتية التي تتمثل في استحداث شبكة لتصريف المياه السطحية ومياه الأمطار بطول 1 كم إلى جانب حماية خطوط الكهرباء والاتصالات والمياه الصالحة للشرب.

هذا وقد قامت إدارة تشغيل وصيانة الطرق بإعادة تأهيل وإصلاح الطبقة الإسفلتية بالطرق المحيطة بالمداخل الخلفية للنادي بطول 300 متر والطرق المؤدية لمجمع خليفة الدولي للتنس والاسكواش بهدف تعزيز السلامة المرورية، بالإضافة إلى رصف وتخطيط تلك الطرق والأرصفة المحيطة بها بغرض تحقيق انسيابية مرورية لمرتادي المرافق الرياضية بالمنطقة.

وأضاف المهندس القريشي إلى أنه تماشياً مع استراتيجية “أشغال” لدعم المنتج والمصنعين المحليين ومبادرة تأهيل التي أطلقتها الهيئة عام 2017، فقد تم الاعتماد على ما يقارب 90% من المواد والمصنعين القطريين من إجمالي المواد المستخدمة في أغلب أعمال المشروع، وتتمثل هذه المواد محلية الصنع في أعمدة ومصابيح الإنارة واللوحات الإرشادية وأنابيب تصريف مياه الامطار والاسفلت والمناهل مسبقة الصنع بالإضافة إلى الخرسانة وحديد التسليح.​
