Doha: The Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), the Organizing Committee of Qatar National Baja Championship, issued a statement to clarify the circumstances of the death of the Qatari driver, Sheikh Hamad bin Eid Al-Thani, which came after his withdrawal from the fourth round of the tournament on Saturday in Dukhan.
In a statement on Saturday evening, QMMF said that Sheikh Hamad started the first stage of the race but decided to withdraw from the competition after its start and return to the maintenance area, and his condition was very normal.
The statement added that Sheikh Hamad accompanied one of his friends in his private car to watch the rest of the race stages, but he suffered a fainting state and lost consciousness, after which his friend informed the organizing committee and returned him to the rally headquarters immediately.
The statement indicated that the medical team assigned to the rally quickly dealt with the case and gave him first aid at the rally headquarters in the Dukhan area before he was transferred to the Cuban Hospital, where he passed away.
QMMF mourned Sheikh Hamad bin Eid Al-Thani, one of the most prominent Qatari drivers throughout history, and extended the deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, and all the fans of rallies and motorsport.
Sheikh Hamad bin Eid Al-Thani was one of the most prominent rally drivers in Qatar and the Gulf region, as he won many local and international titles, the most prominent of which was his winning the World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies in the T2 category.

الدوحة: أصدر الاتحاد القطري للسيارات والدراجات النارية، (اللجنة المنظمة لبطولة الباها المحلية)، بيانا لتوضيح ظروف وفاة السائق القطري الشيخ حمد بن عيد آل ثاني، التي جاءت بعد انسحابه من الجولة الرابعة ضمن منافسات البطولة التي أقيمت اليوم في منطقة دخان.
وقال الاتحاد، في بيان له مساء الأمس، إن الشيخ حمد بدأ المرحلة الأولى من السباق، لكنه قرر الانسحاب من المنافسة بعد بدايتها والعودة إلى منطقة الصيانة، وكانت حالته طبيعية جدا.
وأضاف أن الشيخ حمد رافق أحد أصدقائه في سيارته الخاصة لمشاهدة بقية مراحل السباق، لكنه تعرض لحالة إغماء وفقدان للوعي، قام على إثرها صديقه بإبلاغ اللجنة المنظمة وإعادته إلى مقر الرالي على الفور.
وأوضح البيان أن الفريق الطبي المخصص للرالي تعامل بسرعة مع الحالة، وقام بإسعافه في مقر الرالي بمنطقة دخان قبل أن ينقل إلى المستشفى الكوبي حيث وافته المنية.
ونعى الاتحاد القطري للسيارات والدراجات النارية، الشيخ حمد بن عيد آل ثاني أحد أبرز السائقين القطريين على مر التاريخ، وتوجه بأحر التعازي إلى أهالي المرحوم، وجميع أسرة السيارات والراليات وعشاق رياضة المحركات.
ويعد الشيخ حمد بن عيد آل ثاني، واحدا من أبرز سائقي الراليات في قطر ومنطقة الخليج، حيث حصد العديد من الألقاب المحلية والدولية، كان أبرزها فوزه بلقب بطولة كأس العالم للراليات الصحراوية الطويلة /الكروس كانتري/ في فئة /تي 2/.
