Qatar Airways: 99.9% of travelers are coronavirus-free during 37,000 flights

Doha: Qatar Airways has reported “extremely low numbers” of Covid-19 cases on board its aircraft after operating more than 4.6mn “passenger flown sectors” and over 33bn “revenue passenger kilometres” on more than 37,000 Covid-19-free flights across the globe since February.

The success of the airline’s robust Covid-19 monitoring, detection and hygiene programme has resulted in more than 99.988% of passengers travelling Covid-19-free on board, with significantly less than 1% of passengers confirmed to have tested positive by local authorities following a Qatar Airways flight.

In addition to this, significantly less than 1% (0.002%) of operating cabin crew have been affected on board to date, with no new cases recorded since the airline introduced its full PPE in-flight uniform in May, as well as the inclusion of passenger face shields on all flights.

Qatar Airways Group chief executive HE Akbar al-Baker said, “These latest statistics are a clear indication that, with the adoption of the right measures such as meticulous on-board safety, hygiene and social distancing procedures in place at airports, and compliance with the testing and entry requirements of local authorities, air travel does not need to be a source of concern to passengers.

“From the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have introduced the most rigorous and stringent virus monitoring, detection and on-board hygiene programme in existence within the global aviation community. As an industry, we want to ensure the recovery of commercial aviation by encouraging passengers to feel confident that they are safe and protected, from departure to arrival, with all airlines.

“Our risk-based approach has seen us adopt a number of additional measures such as the introduction of PCR testing for passengers departing from ‘high risk’ countries, and the use of the most advanced HEPA air filtration systems on board our aircraft, wherever possible. This is in addition to the recent introduction of Honeywell’s Ultraviolet Cabin System, operated by Qatar Aviation Services, as an additional step in the cleaning of our aircraft and yet more evidence of Qatar Airways commitment to enhancing its safety practices.

“We have also done everything possible to protect our crew and employees from exposure to infection, with specialist onboard infection prevention training and the introduction of full PPE in-flight uniform in May completely eradicating this risk to date.

“As a result of these important measures we are able to report that 99.988% of the more than 4.6mn passenger flown sectors operated have been Covid-19-free on board our aircraft since February. In addition, significantly less than one per cent of Qatar Airways’ more than 37,000 flights have been confirmed to have carried an infected passenger.

“Given the extremely low numbers of cases travelling on flights and the even lower risk of transmission, with a recent IATA study finding 1 in 27 million travellers had contracted Covid-19 on board a flight, passengers can travel with peace of mind with the knowledge that flying continues to be the safest form of travel.

“Whilst these numbers may be low, we will continue to fastidiously monitor global developments in the fight to control the spread of Covid-19, as well as work closely with local health authorities to support with tracing activities whenever a positive case is confirmed and they have travelled with us within the time range of the incubation period. As an industry, we must remain vigilant and avoid any complacency, but ensure that we have strong safety and security procedures in place to instill confidence in passengers and provide reassurance, whether they are travelling home, visiting friends and family, or taking a leisure trip.”

According to the latest IATA data, Qatar Airways has become the largest international carrier between April and July by fulfilling its mission of taking people home. This enabled the airline to accumulate unmatched experience in carrying passengers safely and reliably and uniquely positioned the airline to effectively rebuild its network.

The carrier has stringently implemented the most advanced safety and hygiene measures on board its aircraft and in Hamad International Airport.
Qatar Airways’ onboard safety measures for passengers and cabin crew include the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for cabin crew and a complimentary protective kit and disposable face shields for passengers.

الدوحة: سجلت الخطوط الجوية القطرية نسبة منخفضة جدا من حيث عدد حالات الإصابة بـ/كوفيد-19/، حيث سجلت 582 حالة فقط على متن رحلاتها بعد أن حلقت بأكثر من 4.6 مليون مسافر بالنسبة للقطاعات الجوية، على متن 37 ألف رحلة طيران أي ما يعادل 33 مليار كيلومتر قطعها المسافرون على متن الرحلات، إلى مختلف أنحاء العالم منذ شهر فبراير للعام الجاري.

ونتج عن الجهود الحثيثة التي بذلتها الناقلة لمراقبة هذا المرض من جهة، وإطلاق عدد من برامج التعقيم والتنظيف للسيطرة عليه من جهة أخرى، في نقل أكثر من 99.988 بالمئة من المسافرين دون أي إصابة على متن الرحلات، مع أقل من 1 بالمائة من المسافرين على الرحلات قد تم تأكيد إصابتهم بالمرض من قبل السلطات المحلية بعد وصولهم إلى إحدى الوجهات على رحلات الخطوط الجوية القطرية.

إضافة إلى ذلك، لم تتجاوز نسبة الإصابة بالفيروس بين طواقم الضيافة على الرحلات 0.002 بالمائة حتى اليوم، مع عدم تسجيل أي حالة إصابة بين طواقم الضيافة منذ تقديم معدات الحماية الشخصية في شهر مايو للعام الجاري، وتقديم واقي الوجه للمسافرين على جميع الرحلات.

وقال سعادة السيد أكبر الباكر، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية “إن هذه الإحصاءات الأخيرة تؤكد بأن السفر معنا آمن، وبأننا في الخطوط الجوية القطرية لم نتوان عن تبني الإجراءات المناسبة للحد من انتشار الفيروس، مثل تطبيق إجراءات سلامة وأمان صارمة على متن جميع الرحلات، واتباع ممارسات تعقيم وتباعد اجتماعي في المطار، مع الحرص على الامتثال للقيود المتبعة في المطارات ومتطلبات الفحص والدخول التي تفرضها السلطات المحلية في مختلف الدول حول العالم”.

وأضاف سعادته “منذ انتشار جائحة /كوفيد-19/، أطلقنا مجموعة من الإجراءات المشددة لمراقبة الفيروس والسيطرة عليه من جهة، والكشف عنه والوقاية منه من جهة أخرى، وذلك من خلال باقة من برامج التعقيم والنظافة التي تعتبر من الأفضل في قطاع الطيران العالمي. ونتطلع في الخطوط الجوية القطرية إلى ضمان تعافي قطاع الطيران العالمي من خلال تشجيع الجميع على السفر من دخولهم المطار حتى وصولهم إلى وجهتهم النهائية مع جميع شركات الطيران”.

وتابع الباكر قائلا: “لقد ارتكز نهجنا على تبني عدد من الإجراءات الإضافية للسيطرة على المرض مثل تقديم فحص PCR للمسافرين المغادرين من الدول ذات الخطورة العالية، واستخدام فلاتر تنقية هواء على الرحلات توظف أحدث ما توصلت إليه التكنولوجيا في هذا المجال، وغيرها من الإجراءات”.

ومضى يقول “بالإضافة إلى تقديم أجهزة هانيويل لتعقيم المقصورة باستخدام الأشعة فوق البنفسجية كخطوة إضافية ضمن عملية التنظيف على الطائرة، لنؤكد بذلك على جهودنا المضنية الرامية إلى تطبيق أكثر الممارسات أمانا في القطاع. كما لم ندخر جهدا في الخطوط الجوية القطرية لحماية موظفينا وطواقم الضيافة من العدوى، مع خلال تدريبهم على كيفية الوقاية من الفيروس على الرحلات، ناهيك عن تقديم معدات الحماية الشخصية في شهر مايو مما ساهم في الحد من كل ما قد يشكل خطرا عليهم حتى اليوم”.

وأشار إلى أنه “إضافة إلى ذلك، شكلت نسبة الرحلات التي ثبتت فيها إصابات مؤكدة بـ/كوفيد-19/ أقل من 1 بالمئة فقط من 37 ألف رحلة طيران تم تشغيلها منذ شهر فبراير. وعند الأخذ بعين الاعتبار الأرقام الضئيلة جدا للإصابات خلال السفر جوا، وضآلة نسبة التقاط الفيروس على الرحلات، فسيحظى المسافرون بتجربة عنوانها الراحة والاطمئنان باستخدام أكثر وسائل السفر أمانا. كما بينت دراسة أخيرة للاتحاد الدولي للنقل الجوي (إياتا) أن مسافرا واحدا فقط من بين كل 27 مليون مسافر التقط الفيروس على متن إحدى الرحلات”.

واختتم الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية قائلاً “مع أن هذه الأرقام منخفضة، إلا أننا سنستمر بمراقبة التطورات العالمية لمحاربة انتشار /كوفيد-19/ مع الحرص على العمل مع السلطات الصحية المحلية لدعمهم في تتبع أي حالة إيجابية بالمرض لأي مسافر على رحلاتنا خلال فترة حضانة الفيروس. وعلينا أن نكون يقظين وعلى أهبة الاستعداد، وأن نستمر بتطبيق أشد إجراءات الأمان والسلامة لتمكين المسافرين من الشعور بالثقة والاطمئنان على الرحلات، سواء كانت رحلتهم للعودة إلى بلادهم، أو لزيارة العائلة والأصدقاء، أو للسياحة واكتشاف مكان جديد”.

ووفقا للإحصائيات الأخيرة الصادرة عن الاتحاد الدولي للنقل الجوي (إياتا)، أصبحت الخطوط الجوية القطرية أكبر شركة طيران دولية خلال الفترة من أبريل حتى يونيو، وذلك من خلال الوفاء بمهمتها المتمثلة بإيصال المسافرين إلى بلادهم.

وتمكنت الناقلة القطرية من جمع خبرات لا مثيل لها في مجال نقل المسافرين إلى بلادهم بأمان، وأصبحت في موقع فريد أتاح لها إعادة بناء شبكة وجهاتها العالمية بشكل فعال. كما قامت الناقلة بتطبيق أحدث التدابير والإجراءات الخاصة بالصحة والسلامة على متن طائراتها، وفي مطار حمد الدولي.

واتخذت الناقلة الوطنية لدولة قطر عددا من الإجراءات لتعزيز تدابير السلامة على متن رحلاتها، من خلال تقديم معدات الحماية الشخصية لطاقم الضيافة، وحقيبة مستلزمات الحماية الشخصية وواق للوجه للمسافرين على كافة الدرجات.
