Nasser al-Attiyah retains the lead in Andalucia Desert Rally

Madrid: Qatari champion Nasser al-Attiyah won the title of the third stage of the Desert Rally of Andalucia, which will run until Saturday, with 55 drivers in the category of cars from the world’s leading champions and participants in the Dakar International Rally 2021, after benefiting from the 10-minute penalty of The Planeti that the saudi driver Yazid Al-Raji was subject to.

With his French navigator Mathieu Bomel on board the Toyota Hilux, al-Attiyah completed this 300km stage, including 233 km speed, in a time of 1.45.24 hours to take first place 1.07 minutes ahead of his nearest rival, French driver Stephane Peterhansel, with his navigator and compatriot Edward Bollinger on board a Mini John Cooper in the third place in a time of 1.46.31 hours.

Spain’s Carlos Sainz and compatriot Lucas Cruz finished third in a Mini John Cooper in 1.47.00 hours, 1.36 minutes behind the top-ranked Al Attiyah.

Saudi driver Yazid Al Rajhi, accompanied by German navigator Derek von Zeitzwitz on board the Toyota Hilux, lost the title of the stage that he finished in the first place in and slipped to fifth place after being punished for exceeding the speed specified in some areas of the rally, where the rules of the rally require the drivers in these areas not to exceed the speed of 30 km.

With today’s stage results, Al Attiyah slipped to second place at the top of the overall rally rankings with a total time of 6.40.16 hours and 6.48 minutes behind Spain’s Carlos Sainz, who finished second with a total time of 6.47.04 hours, at the expense of Yazid Al Rajhi, who dropped to third place with a total time of 6.49.53 hours and 9.37 minutes behind the leading al-Attiyah.

The Spanish rally continues with the fourth and final stage of the 210 km on Saturday, which will see a strong competition between Al-Attiyah and Al-Rajhi to seal the title of the rally.

The Qatari driver is one of the leading candidates for the Spanish Desert Rally title, which was held by the decision of Mr. David Castera, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Dakar Rally and The Rally of Morocco, to be a substitute for the Rally of Morocco, which was cancelled due to the Corona (Covid-19) pandemic, as part of the drivers preparation programme before the Dakar International Rally.

Andalucia Rally was chosen because it is very similar to the Morocco Rally and will be the best preparation for the Dakar Rally drivers, which has led the majority of international drivers to take part in the competitions.

مدريد: حقق البطل القطري ناصر العطية لقب المرحلة الثالثة من منافسات رالي الأندلس الصحراوي الذي تستمر فعالياته حتى يوم السبت بمشاركة 55 سائقا في فئة السيارات من أبرز أبطال العالم والمشاركين في رالي داكار الدولي 2021، وذلك بعدما استفاد من تعرض السائق السعودي يزيد الراجي لعقوبة “بلانتي” لمدة عشر دقائق وتراجعه من المركز الأول إلى الخامس.

وقطع العطية بصحبة ملاحه الفرنسي ماثيو بوميل على متن سيارة /تويوتا هايلوكس/، هذه المرحلة البالغ مسافتها 300 كلم منها 233 كلم مرحلة خاصة بالسرعة، في زمن قدره 1.45.24 ساعة ليحتل المركز الأول بفارق 1.07 دقيقة عن أقرب منافسيه السائق الفرنسي ستيفان بيترهانسيل بصحبة ملاحه ومواطنه إدوارد بولانجر على متن سيارة “ميني جون كوبر” في المركز الثالث بزمن قدره 1.46.31 ساعة.

واحتل الإسباني كارلوس ساينز بصحبة ملاحة ومواطنه لوكاس كروز على متن سيارة “ميني جون كوبر” المركز الثالث بزمن قدره 1.47.00 ساعة وبفارق 1.36 دقيقة عن العطية المتصدر.

وفقد السائق السعودي يزيد الراجحي بصحبة ملاحه الألماني ديريك فون زيتزويتز على متن سيارة /تويوتا هايلوكس/، لقب المرحل الذي أنهاها في المركز الأول وتراجع إلى المركز الخامس بعد تعرضه لعقوبة بسبب تخطي السرعة المحددة في بعض مناطق الرالي، حيث تلتز قواعد الرالي السائقين في هذه المناطق بعدم تخطي سرعة 30 كلم.

وبنتائج مرحلة اليوم، تراجع العطية إلى المركز الثاني في صدارة الترتيب العام الرالي بزمن إجمالي قدره 6.40.16 ساعات وبفارق 6.48 دقائق عن الإسباني كارلوس ساينز الذي تقدم للمركز الثاني بزمن إجمالي قدره 6.47.04 ساعات ، وذلك على حساب يزيد الراجحي الذي تراجع للمركز الثالث بزمن إجمالي قدره 6.49.53 ساعات وبفارق 9.37 دقائق عن العطية المتصدر.

وتتواصل المنافسات الرالي الإسباني بإقامة المرحلة الرابعة والأخيرة ولمسافة 210 كلم يوم غد /السبت/ والتي ستشهد منافسة قوية بين العطية والرجحي لحسم لقب الرالي.

ويعد السائق القطري أحد أبرز المرشحين للفوز بلقب الرالي الصحراوي الإسباني الذي تمت إقامته بقرار من السيد دايفيد كاستيرا رئيس اللجنة التنظيمية لرالي داكار ورالي المغرب، وذلك ليكون بديلا لرالي المغرب الذي تم إلغاؤه بسبب جائحة كورونا (كوفيد-19)، في إطار برنامج تحضير السائقين قبل خوض منافسات رالي داكار الدولي.

وتم اختيار رالي الأندلس لأنه يشبه في طبيعته الصحراوية بصورة كبيرة رالي المغرب، كما أنه سيكون أفضل إعداد للسائقين لرالي داكار، الأمر الذي دفع غالبية السائقين العالميين للمشاركة في المنافسات.
