One Kilo of grapes for 750 riyals and cantaloupes for 440 .. Japanese fruit at imaginary prices in the local market

Would you buy one kilo of grapes for 750 riyals or one cantaloupe for 440 riyals?! Whether you say yes or no, you should know that these and other products are already available in Qatar at such exorbitant prices.

Twitter users have circulated a range of photos of different types of fruit imported from Japan, and the labels on them show their prices to be abnormally high.

According to the photos circulating, the price of a small box of Japanese grapes (probably weighs one kilogram) was 750 riyals, while the price of another type of Japanese grapes was 286 riyals, one kilo of japanese kaka for 245 riyals, one cantaloupe for 440 riyals, one kilo of japanese square watermelon for 283 riyals, and peaches for 375 riyals.

Referring to the list of fruit and vegetable prices announced by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for operation from Sunday ( July 19th until next Thursday), we find no mention of these expensive varieties.

Here comes the question of whether these imported products are sold at these imaginary prices with the knowledge, control and approval of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, or without their knowledge? Let’s say the answer is “yes”, then the ministry should give consumers and the public a logical explanation of why prices are so high.

Especially since the consumer can buy more than 31 kilograms of peach declared in the ministry’s official bulletin with the price of one kilo of Japanese peaches (which is 375 riyals). He can buy more than 30 kilograms of watermelon on the local market for the same price as one kilo of Japanese watermelon (238 riyals) and can buy more than 46 kilograms of Australian or American grapes in local markets for the same price as one kilo of Japanese grapes which is (750 riyals).

هل يمكن أن تشتري كيلو واحداً من العنب بـ 750 ريالاً أو حبة واحدة من الشمام بـ 440 ريالاً؟! سواء أجبت بنعم أو لا، يجب أن تعرف أن هذه المنتجات وغيرها متوافرة بالفعل في قطر بهذه الأسعار الباهظة.

مغردون في مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي تداولوا مجموعة من الصور لأنواع مختلفة من الفاكهة المستوردة من اليابان، ويتضح من البطاقات التعريفية الملصقة عليها ارتافع أسعارها بشكل غير طبيعي.

ووفق الصور المتداولة بلغ ثمن صندوق صغير من العنب الياباني (ربما يزن كيلوغراماً واحداً) 750 ريالا فيما وصل ثمن نوع آخر من العنب الياباني إلى 286 ريال، وكيلو كاكا ياباني 245 ريالا،  وحبة واحدة من الشمام 440 ريالا، وكيلو البطيخ المربع ياباني 283 ريالا، والدراق 375 ريالا.

وبالرجوع إلى قائمة أسعار الفواكه والخضروات التي أعلنت عنها وزارة التجارة والصناعة للعمل بها من يوم الأحد 19 يوليو وحتى يوم الخميس القادم، لا نجد أي ذكر لهذه الأنواع باهظة الثمن.

وهنا يبرز تساؤل، هل تباع هذه المنتجات المستوردة وفق هذه الأسعار الخيالية بعلم ورقابة وموافقة وزارة التجارة والصناعة، أم دون علمها؟ ولنفترض أن الإجابة “نعم” حينها يجب على الوزارة ان تعطي المستهلكين والجمهور تفسيراً منطقياً لسبب ارتفاع الأسعار بهذا الشكل.

خاصة وأنه يمكن للمستهلك أن يشتري بثمن كيلو الدراق الياباني ( 375 ريالا) أكثر من 31 كليوغراما من الدراق المعلن عنه في النشرة الرسمية للوزارة. فيما يمكنه أن يشتري بثمن البطيخ الياباني (238 ريالا) أكثر من 30 كيلوغراما من البطيخ الموجود في الأسواق المحلية، كما يمكنه أن يشتري بثمن العنب الياباني (750 ريالا) أكثر من 46 كيلوغراما من العنب الأسترالي أو الأمريكي المنتشر في الأسواق المحلية.
