Al Tarfa Intersection open to traffic after completion of upgrading works

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the main upgrading works of Al Tarfa Intersection and its infrastructure service utilities, in addition to the construction of new service roads.
The recently completed intersection and roads are now open to traffic as part of the Road Improvement Works in Various Areas of Greater Doha Project – Phase five.
On this occasion, Essa Sultan Al Hillabi, Project Engineer in the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal, said that the recently opened intersection and street provides direct link to Al Tarfa Street, Jeryan Nejaima Street as well as the street leading to Wadi Al Banat Area known as Leawaina Street which has significant volume of traffic. He pointed out that the intersection directly serves several important educational institutions such as Qatar University, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences.
He also stated that Al Tarfa Intersection provides a link to Jeryan Nejaima Area and Wadi Al Banat Area as well as facilitating access to Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium and Doha Golf Club.
Al Hillabi indicated that in line with the Public Works Authority’s support to local manufacturers and in line with Ta’heel initiative, which was launched by the Authority in 2017, local materials and manufacturers were relied on for most of the project’s work.
Materials and elements supplied from local manufacturers included sewage, surface water and rain water drainage pipes, in addition to lighting poles and luminaires. The local Qatari component used on the project is 80%.
Further to upgrading the intersection, a total 2.3 km of road works and the construction of new service roads, the project’s scope of works also included the installation of a new lighting system and the upgrade of infrastructure utility services. Infrastructure services’ enhancement works comprised the upgrade of the surface and storm water drainage and the TSE lines in addition to protecting electricity and telecommunications services’ lines and upgrading water lines. The road was also equipped by directional signs and road markings.
The Public Works Authority is working on finishing remaining interlock and landscaping works alongside the road which, once complete, will cover 12,700 square meters of green areas and include planting 103 trees. And to encourage a healthy lifestyle, the project will avail a 2 km pedestrian and cycle shared path alongside Jeryan Nejaima Street and Leawaina Street that will be linked to the existing shared path on Al Tarfa Street.
Upgrade of Al Tarfa Intersection is part of a series of projects implemented by Ashghal in order to improve the road network across the country.

أكملت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” تنفيذ الأعمال الرئيسية لتطوير تقاطع “الطرفة” وأعمال البنية التحتية به وفتحه أمام الحركة المرورية، إلى جانب إنشاء شوارع خدمية جديدة، وذلك ضمن أعمال مشروع تحسين الطرق في مناطق متعددة من الدوحة الكبرى – المرحلة الخامسة.
وتضمنت أعمال المشروع رصف وتطوير الطريق الرئيسي بطول 2.3 كيلومتر، وإنشاء طرق خدمية، وتركيب أنظمة إنارة وتطوير شبكة صرف المياه السطحية ومياه الأمطار، وإنشاء شبكة جديدة للمياه المعالجة، بالإضافة إلى حماية التمديدات الخدمية وتطوير خطوط الماء، وتركيب اللوحات الإرشادية والعلامات الأرضية الخاصة بالطريق.
وبهذه المناسبة أكد المهندس عيسى سلطان الهلابي، مهندس المشروع بإدارة مشروعات الطرق في “أشغال” أهمية تطوير التقاطع والشوارع الجديدة، لأنها تربط بين شوارع الطرفة وجريان نجيمة والشارع المؤدي إلى وادي البنات المعروف بشارع “لعوينة”، كما أن التقاطع يخدم العديد من المنشآت التعليمية الهامة بشكل مباشر مثل جامعة قطر ومعهد الدوحة للدراسات العليا وكلية الآداب والعلوم. كما يسهم في ربط منطقتي جريان نجيمة ووادي البنات، فضلاً عن تسهيله الوصول إلى استاد عبد الله بن خليفة ونادي الدوحة للجولف.
وأضاف أن الانتهاء من تنفيذ الأعمال الرئيسية لتقاطع الطرفة ساهم بشكل كبير في تحسين الحركة المرورية، وتخفيض الازدحام المروري في المنطقة، حيث أن المشروع قد عمل على تحسين الانسيابية المرورية وزيادة القدرة الاستيعابية للتقاطع.
وأشار المهندس الهلابي إلى أنه في سياق دعم هيئة الأشغال العامة للمصنعين المحليين ومبادرة “تأهيل” التي أطلقتها الهيئة عام 2017، فقد تم الاعتماد على مواد ومصنعين محليين في أغلب أعمال المشروع، حيث وصلت نسبة المكون المحلي إلى 80 بالمائة من أعمال المشروع.
وتواصل الهيئة استكمال أعمال التجميل والانترلوك على جانبي الطريق، حيث ستغطي أعمال التشجير والتجميل، عند اكتمالها مساحة 12,700 متر مربع من المسطحات الخضراء، كما ستشمل زراعة 103 شجرات جديدة.. كما سيتم أيضا توفير مسار جديد مشترك مخصص للمشاة والدراجات الهوائية بطول كيلومترين على شارع جريان نجيمة وشارع لعوينة، ليتم ربطه بالمسار الحالي في شارع الطرفة، للتشجيع على نمط حياة صحي.
ويندرج مشروع تطوير تقاطع الطرفة ضمن سلسة المشاريع التي تنفذها “أشغال”، لتحسين شبكة الطرق في جميع أنحاء الدولة.
