Education City Stadium is the latest FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament venue to be completed by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy.
It becomes the third tournament-ready venue for Qatar 2022 following the successful redevelopment of Khalifa International Stadium in 2017 and the inauguration of Al Janoub Stadium last year.
Two more stadiums are expected to open by the end of 2020: Al Rayyan Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium.

Qatar’s Diamond in the Desert
The facade of the stadium features triangles that form complex, diamond-like geometrical patterns which appear to change colour with the suns movement across the sky. Like diamonds, the stadiums design represents quality, durability and resilience and will become something to be treasured, both for the memories it holds and its future value to the country.
Quarter-finals venue during Qatar 2022
During Qatar 2022, the stadium is set to host matches up to the quarter-finals stage. The stadiums seating capacity during the tournament will be 40,000. After Qatar 2022, the capacity will be reduced to 20,000 following the removal of the modular upper tier. The excess seats will be donated to countries which lack sporting infrastructure meaning the legacy of Qatar 2022 will be felt far and wide.
Set in the heart of Qatar’s education and research hub
Education City is the home of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF). Situated within Education City are leading universities, along with research and development institutions. As well as hosting matches during Qatar 2022, the stadium will provide sporting facilities for the entire QF community, including faculty and students. Parts of the stadium will be turned into classrooms and event spaces for QF schools and universities after the tournament.
The first Qatar 2022 venue to achieve a 5* sustainability rating
The stadium achieved a 5* rating under the Global Sustainability Assessment System for its design and build. Its range of sustainability features include direct access to public transport, low toxicity indoor materials and LED sports lighting. In addition, 85% of building materials were regionally sourced, while 29% were generated from recycled materials. The stadium also boasts carbon dioxide sensors for high occupant density spaces to ensure ventilation and indoor air quality, and a water efficient irrigation design to minimise landscape water consumption.
Doha Metro offers direct access for fans
Convenient access to the stadium is provided by the Doha Metro. Education City Station on the Green Line is located just 500m from the venue. A single ticket on the Doha Metro is QAR 3 ($0.82), while a day pass costs QAR 9 ($2.47).

أصبح استاد المدينة التعليمية ثالث الاستادات التي أعلنت اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث عن جاهزيتها لاستضافة منافسات بطولة كأس العالم /قطر 2022/، بعد كل من استاد خليفة الدولي، الذي اكتملت أعمال تطويره في 2017، واستاد الجنوب الذي أعلن عن جاهزيته العام الماضي كأول استاد جرى تشييده بالكامل لاستضافة مباريات المونديال.
ومن المقرر أن تعلن اللجنة العليا العام الجاري عن اكتمال استادين آخرين، هما استاد الريان، واستاد البيت.
وفي تقرير نشرته اللجنة العليا على موقعها اليوم، عرضت خمس حقائق أساسية حول استاد المدينة التعليمية، مشيرة إلى أن الاستاد يعتبر جوهرة الصحراء في قطر حيث تتزين واجهته بمثلثات تكون أشكالا هندسية متشابكة تشبه الألماس، ويتغير لونها وفق زاوية سقوط أشعة الشمس عليها.
ويعكس تصميم الاستاد خصائص الألماس الذي يمتاز بجودته ومتانته ومرونته، وسيحظى الاستاد بمكانة خاصة لدى الجميع، سواء بفضل ما سيشهده من أحداث وفعاليات، أو ما سيحمله من قيمة في مستقبل الدولة.
وقالت اللجنة إن استاد المدينة التعليمية سيستضيف مباريات في بطولة كأس العالم قطر 2022 من دور المجموعات حتى ربع النهائي، وستبلغ طاقته الاستيعابية خلال البطولة 40 ألف مشجع، على أن يجري خفض عدد مقاعد الاستاد بعد انتهاء البطولة إلى 20 ألف مقعد، وذلك بعد تفكيك مقاعد المدرجات العلوية للتبرع بها لدول تفتقر إلى البنية التحتية الرياضية.
وأوضحت اللجنة أن الاستاد يقع في قلب مركز تعليمي وبحثي رائد في قطر، حيث تضم المدينة التعليمية مقر مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، إلى جانب عدد من الجامعات العالمية الرائدة، ومؤسسات معنية بالبحث والتطوير.. وإلى جانب استضافة المباريات خلال مونديال 2022، سيستفيد من استاد المدينة التعليمية مجتمع مؤسسة قطر، بما في ذلك الطلاب وأعضاء هيئة التدريس.
وأكدت اللجنة العليا أن استاد المدينة التعليمية، أول استادات مونديال 2022 يمنح شهادة في الاستدامة من فئة 5 نجوم، حيث حصل على شهادة نظام تقييم الاستدامة العالمي “جي ساس” من فئة الخمس نجوم في التصميم والبناء، ويمتاز الاستاد بالعديد من المزايا التي تدعم الاستدامة، تشمل سهولة الانتقال إليه مباشرة عبر وسائل النقل العامة، واستخدام مواد داخلية تراعي صحة الناس وتحافظ على البيئة، والاستعانة بأنظمة إضاءة تعمل بتقنية “ال اي دي” الموفرة للطاقة.. كما جرى استيراد 85% من مواد البناء من بلدان المنطقة، وتحتوي 29% من مواد البناء على مكونات أعيد تدويرها.
ويمتاز الاستاد كذلك بمستشعرات ثاني أكسيد الكربون في المساحات عالية الكثافة لضمان التهوية وجودة الهواء داخل الاستاد، إضافة إلى منظومة ري متطورة تضمن الحد الأدنى من استهلاك المياه في ري المساحات الخضراء.
ومن ضمن المزايا التي يتمتع بها الاستاد، انتقال المشجعين مباشرة للاستاد عبر مترو الدوحة، حيث يسهل الوصول إلى استاد المدينة التعليمية عبر الخط الأخضر في مترو الدوحة، وذلك من خلال محطة المدينة التعليمية التي لا تبعد سوى 500 متر عن الاستاد.. ويبلغ سعر تذكرة الرحلة الواحدة في مترو الدوحة 3 ريالات قطرية (0.82 دولارا أمريكيا)، في حين يبلغ سعر تذكرة استخدام المترو ليوم كامل 9 ريالات قطرية (2.47 دولارا أمريكيا).
