Al Meera Leads Simaisma Beach Cleanup for World Clean Up Day

Doha, Qatar – 22 September, 2024: As part of its celebration of World Clean Up Day 2024, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company Q.P.S.C. organized a campaign to clean Simaisma Beach on 21^st September, in collaboration with Ministry of Municipality and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). The campaign aims to raise community awareness about environmental preservation, encourage active participation in sustainable practices, and establish an inspiring model for everyone to join hands in support of a common cause that impacts the whole of society.

This campaign, a continuation of Al Meera’s ongoing environmental efforts, included participation of Al Meera employees and a group of HBKU students. Together, volunteers cleaned up significant quantities of debris, such as cans, plastic bags, and other wastes, which pose threats to marine life.

World Clean-up Day, held annually in September, is the largest cleanup activity worldwide, engaging people in more than 180 countries to tackle the global waste crisis. It aims to clean up as much rubbish as possible and raise awareness of the harmful effects of pollution caused by plastic products. The Simaisma Beach cleaning event, organized by Al Meera, is one of hundreds of initiatives around the world urging people to reduce waste and polluting materials while promoting sustainable practices.

Al Meera organizes this campaign as a collective call for individuals and communities to integrate sustainable practices into various aspects of daily lives, to activate community participation in environmental protection activities, and unite efforts to find innovative solutions to various environmental and societal challenges. Through its nationwide network of branches, Al Meera is innovating new channels to urge the local community members to adopt sustainable practices and actively take part in environmental protection efforts. These initiatives include awareness campaigns, promoting reusable bags, beach clean ups, reverse vending machines to recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans, paper and used battery recycling, and much more.

• الميرة تنظّم حملة لتنظيف شاطئ سميسمة بالتعاون مع وزارة البلدية و جامعة حمد بن خليفة

الدوحة، قطر – 22 سبتمبر 2024: ضمن احتفالها باليوم العالمي للنظافة 2024، قامت شركة الميرة للمواد الاستهلاكية (ش.م.ع.ق) بإطلاق حملة لتنظيف شاطئ سميسمة يوم 21 سبتمبر 2024، بالتعاون مع جامعة حمد بن خليفة، وذلك من أجل نشر الوعي بين أفراد المجتمع بأهمية الحفاظ على البيئة والموارد الطبيعية من خلال اتباع ممارسات النظافة العامة، ومواصلة جهودها لإرساء نموذج ملهم لتكاتف الجميع في دعم قضية مشتركة يمتد تأثيرها على كل أطياف المجتمع.

شهدت هذه الحملة – التي تأتي امتدادًا لحملات شركة الميرة المستمرة في هذا الجانب –مشاركة لافتة من موظفي الميرة وعدد من مسؤولي وطلاب جامعة حمد بن خليفة، الذين تعانوا معًا في انتشال كميات من النفايات المتنوعة التي جرفتها التيارات البحرية للشاطئ معظمها من العلب والأكياس البلاستيكية وغيرها من النفايات التي تشكل خطرًا يهدد حياة الكائنات البحرية.

يُعد يوم النظافة العالمي، الذي يُقام سنويًا في شهر سبتمبر، أكبر نشاط تنظيف في جميع أنحاء العالم، حيث يعمل على إشراك الأفراد في أكثر من 180 دولة لمعالجة أزمة النفايات العالمية. يهدف يوم النظافة العالمي إلى تنظيف أكبر قدر ممكن من القمامة وزيادة الوعي بالتأثيرات الضارة للتلوث الناجم عن استخدام المنتجات البلاستيكية. وفي هذا السياق، تأتي فعالية تنظيف شاطئ “سميسمة” من قبل الميرة كإضافة إلى مئات المبادرات حول العالم لنشر رسالة فحواها الحد من المخلّفات والمواد الملوثة وتعزيز الممارسات المستدامة.

وفي بيان لها حول تنظيم الحملة، صرحت الميرة:

بدوره، صرح الدكتور ماركوس وينك، عميد كلية العلوم الصحية والحيوية بجامعة حمد بن خليفة:

“سعداء للغاية بمواصلة التعاون مع شركة الميرة في تنظيم حملة تنظيف شاطئ سميسمة والتي تبذل قصارى جهدها للقيام بدور حيوي تجاه البيئة وتعزيز رفاهية المُجتمع. تُجسد هذه الحملة قيم التضامن وروح التعاون والعمل المشترك بين كافة مؤسسات الدولة وأطياف المجتمع القطري، كما تعكس التزامنا بإحداث تأثير إيجابي على المشهد البيئي والاجتماعي والاقتصادي في الدولة بدعم من كوادر شابة ومسؤولين يتوقون إلى إحداث تغيير إيجابي والنهوض بالمجتمعات عن طريق تشجيع الجميع لتبني ممارسات مستدامة وفعالة بيئيًا لحماية الكوكب واستدامة موارده وثرواته الطبيعية الفريدة.”

تعمل الميرة – من خلال شبكة فروعها الأكبر في الدولة – على ابتكار مبادرات جديدة لحثّ أبناء المجتمع المحلي على اتباع الممارسات المستدامة والمشاركة بفعالية في جهود حماية البيئة، وذلك عبر إطلاق الحملات التوعوية وحملات تنظيف الشاطئ، وتوفير آلات إعادة تدوير القوارير البلاستيكية والبطاريات المستهلكة بفروعها، وتوجيه المستهلكين لاستخدام أكياس تسوّق صديقة للبيئة قابلة لإعادة الاستخدام بدلاً من نظيرتها البلاستيكية التي تستخدم لمرة واحدة، وغير ها من المبادرات.
