QatarEnergy Unveils ‘Rex Tillerson’, Its First LNG Vessel

QatarEnergy celebrated a historic milestone with the inauguration of the ‘Rex Tillerson’, the first conventional-sized LNG vessel under its shipbuilding program. Named after former ExxonMobil Chairman and CEO, Rex Tillerson, the vessel honors his lifetime achievements in the energy sector.
The traditional naming ceremony took place at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, China. His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, attended the event along with prominent industry figures, including Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani, CEO of QatarEnergy LNG, and other senior executives from QatarEnergy, CSSC, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and COSCO SHIPPING.
In his remarks, H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi emphasized the significance of the event, praising Tillerson’s lasting contributions to Qatar and the global energy industry. He expressed gratitude for the long-standing partnership and wished the vessel “Fair Winds and Following Seas” as it embarks on its global journeys, transporting Qatari LNG. The Minister also highlighted QatarEnergy’s commitment to providing cleaner energy and contributing to global economic development.
Rex Tillerson expressed his deep honor in having the vessel named after him, reflecting on his career with ExxonMobil and his collaboration with Qatar in building the world’s largest LNG export industry.
In addition to the ‘Rex Tillerson’, QatarEnergy celebrated the naming of another vessel, ‘Umm Ghuwailina’. Both vessels, part of a 12-ship contract with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard, feature cutting-edge maritime technology to ensure optimal efficiency and environmental compliance. The ships will be delivered ahead of schedule under long-term charters by QatarEnergy Trading.
With dual-fuel engines and advanced environmental controls, the vessels represent QatarEnergy’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation in the global energy sector. H.E. the Minister praised the shipyard’s craftsmanship and thanked all partners involved in bringing these world-class vessels to life.

احتفلت قطر للطاقة بحدث تاريخي بتدشين السفينة “ريكس تيلرسون”، وهي أول سفينة بحجم تقليدي للغاز الطبيعي المسال ضمن برنامجها لبناء السفن. تم تسمية السفينة تيمناً بريكس تيلرسون، الرئيس التنفيذي السابق لشركة إكسون موبيل، تكريماً لإنجازاته في قطاع الطاقة.
أقيم حفل التسمية التقليدي في حوض بناء السفن Hudong-Zhonghua في مدينة شنغهاي الصينية، بحضور سعادة المهندس سعد شريدة الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة ورئيس قطر للطاقة. كما حضر الحفل عدد من الشخصيات البارزة في قطاع الطاقة، منهم الشيخ خالد بن خليفة آل ثاني، الرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للطاقة للغاز الطبيعي المسال، وجيا هاي يينغ، المدير المالي لشركة بناء السفن الصينية، وغيرهم من كبار التنفيذيين.
وفي تصريحاته، أشاد سعادة الوزير الكعبي بإسهامات تيلرسون في تطوير العلاقات مع قطر وقطاع الطاقة العالمي. وأعرب عن شكره لتيلرسون على صداقته وتعاونه الوثيق مع قطر، متمنياً للسفينة رحلة آمنة تحمل إرث تيلرسون إلى العالم.
كما عبّر تيلرسون عن فخره بتسمية السفينة باسمه، مشيراً إلى دوره في تطوير تجارة الغاز الطبيعي المسال بالتعاون مع قطر.
بالإضافة إلى السفينة “ريكس تيلرسون”، احتفلت قطر للطاقة بتسمية سفينة أخرى “أم غويلينة”. كلتا السفينتين جزء من عقد لبناء 12 سفينة مع حوض بناء السفن Hudong-Zhonghua، مجهزة بأحدث التقنيات البحرية لضمان الكفاءة والامتثال للمعايير البيئية. سيتم تسليم السفينتين قبل الجدول الزمني المحدد وتحت عقود تأجير طويلة الأجل من قبل قطر للطاقة للتجارة.
تجسد هذه السفن التزام قطر للطاقة بالاستدامة والابتكار في قطاع الطاقة العالمي، حيث شكر الوزير الكعبي جميع الشركاء على تنفيذ هذه السفن بمعايير عالمية عالية.
