The Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced that the Suhail star will rise on Saturday, August 24, marking the start of the Suhail season in Qatar and the wider GCC region. This event signifies the beginning of cooler weather as temperatures gradually decline, especially during the night.
The Suhail season, recognized by QCH, includes several important periods such as Al-Murabba’iyah, Al-Wasmi, Al-Safri, and Al-Kanna. These seasons have historically been crucial for predicting agricultural cycles, grazing periods, and climate changes, both in ancient and modern times.
Dr. Bashir Marzouk, an astronomer at QCH, explained that the appearance of Suhail marks a significant shift in the weather, with noticeable drops in temperature and humidity. The most favorable weather conditions, according to Dr. Marzouk, occur during the Wasmi period, expected in early October.
The Suhail star’s influence extends over a period of 52 days, divided into four phases of 13 days each. As each phase progresses, the weather continues to cool, signaling the transition from the scorching summer to a milder autumn.
Renowned Saudi meteorologist Dr. Khalid Al Zaaq also highlighted the importance of the Suhail season, describing it as the “dividing line between the hot summer and the mild autumn.” On his X account, Dr. Al Zaaq noted that during this period, both temperature and humidity levels gradually improve, bringing relief from the intense summer heat.

أعلن دار التقويم القطري عن ظهور نجم سهيل في سماء قطر يوم السبت الموافق 24 أغسطس، مما يشير إلى بداية موسم سهيل في قطر وبقية دول الخليج العربي. ويعتبر هذا الحدث علامة على بدء انخفاض تدريجي في درجات الحرارة، خاصة خلال الليل.
يتضمن موسم سهيل، كما حددته دار التقويم القطري، عدة فترات مهمة مثل المربعانية، الوسمي، الصفري، والكنة. وقد كانت هذه الفصول مهمة على مر العصور في تحديد مواسم الزراعة والرعي وتغيرات المناخ.
وأوضح الدكتور بشير مرزوق، عالم الفلك في دار التقويم القطري، أن ظهور سهيل يعد بداية لتحول كبير في الطقس، مع انخفاض ملحوظ في درجات الحرارة والرطوبة. وأشار الدكتور مرزوق إلى أن أفضل الظروف الجوية تحدث خلال فترة الوسمي، والتي من المتوقع أن تبدأ في أوائل أكتوبر.
يمتد تأثير نجم سهيل على مدى 52 يومًا، مقسمة إلى أربع مراحل كل منها تستمر 13 يومًا. ومع تقدم كل مرحلة، يستمر الطقس في البرودة، مما يشير إلى الانتقال من الصيف الحار إلى الخريف المعتدل.
كما أشار عالم الأرصاد الجوية السعودي الدكتور خالد الزعاق إلى أهمية موسم سهيل، واصفًا إياه بأنه “الخط الفاصل بين الصيف الحار والخريف المعتدل”. وعلى حسابه في “X”، أشار الدكتور الزعاق إلى أنه خلال هذه الفترة تتحسن درجات الحرارة ومستويات الرطوبة تدريجيًا، مما يجلب الراحة من حرارة الصيف الشديدة.
