Qatar’s Olympic Legacy: An Exhibition at Paris 2024

Doha: The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM) will participate in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 by organizing an exhibition on Qatar, which will display many valuable collectibles, from 30 July – 25 August, continuing even after the Olympic Games wrap up, only to end shortly before the Paralympic Games commence on August 28.

Regarding Qatar’s participation as part of the Olympic Museums Network (OMN), an International Olympic Committee affiliate, Director of QOSM Abdulla Al Mulla told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that all preparations are set for holding the exhibition on the margin of the Olympic Games, indicating that the Museum possesses over 19,000 artifacts, with some rare and valuable pieces reflecting past Olympic achievements, to be showcased in the exhibition, including Qatar’s first-ever participation in the Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984, in addition to displaying 3,000 items borrowed from international Olympic museums, to highlight QOSM’s debut at the Olympics.

Al Mulla also revealed that the exhibition will feature the launch of a book written by the founder of the Olympic Movement Baron Pierre de Coubertin, translated from French and English into Arabic, to be presented in collaboration with the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Qatar Olympic Academy. He added that the launch of this book constitutes a significant addition to the International Olympic Committee’s library, as well as Arab and global libraries, given its comprehensive coverage of Olympic history and legacy.

The book will be launched in a Qatar Olympic Committee-organized reception to take place on August 1st, attended by elite officials from the International Olympic Committee and HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, head of the State of Qatar’s delegation participating in the Olympics, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani.

Moreover, Al Mulla noted the comprehensive nature of the team responsible for organizing the exhibition in a manner befitting the significance of the event, along with a team of guides tasked with explaining the Museum’s exhibits to visitors. The Director of QOSM added that among the notable exhibits are Muhammad Ali’s first championship gloves from the 1960 Rome Olympics, along with the gold medal won by Qatari champion Mutaz Barshim in the high jump at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Qatar’s first gold medal in athletics.

Al Mulla said that the point of the exhibition will be to leave visitors impressed by their experience of QOSM, adding that Qatar enjoys a rich record of participation in international sporting events, is committed to developing robust infrastructure, stadiums, and facilities, and has a prestigious record of hosting various global sporting events, most notably the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which earned it the trust of FIFA and the global sports community.

Al Mulla said that Qatar’s partaking in this exhibition is an embodiment of the slogan that says that the Olympics are a mere dream, highlighting Qatar’s rich record and contributions to the Olympic movement.

Concluding his remarks, the Director of QOSM hoped that the exhibition would have a large turnout for more people to experience Qatar’s cultural heritage, in keeping with the directives of HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani regarding promoting learning and museum culture to visitors, in keeping with the Qatar National Vision 2030, which sets human capital as the most valuable asset, thus, Qatar prioritizes relying on national cadres, for which it provides them with training and sends them to participate in international exhibitions and events.

الدوحة: يسعى متحف قطر الأولمبي 1-2-3، إلى تحقيق مكاسب عديدة في دورة الألعاب الأولمبية الصيفية باريس 2024 من خلال مشاركته في الأولمبياد عبر تنظيم “معرض قطر” خلال الفترة من 30 يوليو الجاري وحتى 25 أغسطس المقبل، وعرض العديد من المقتنيات الثمينة للزائرين والمشاركين في الفعاليات التي ستمتد إلى ما بعد الألعاب الأولمبية، وبالتزامن مع انطلاق الألعاب البارالمبية في 28 أغسطس.

وعن المشاركة القطرية ضمن شبكة المتاحف الأولمبية التابعة للجنة الأولمبية الدولية، أكد عبد الله الملا مدير متحف قطر الأولمبي 1-2-3، في تصريحات خاصة لوكالة الأنباء القطرية قنا، اكتمال كافة التحضيرات لإقامة المعرض الذي سيقام على هامش المشاركة في الأولمبياد، ولديهم في متحف قطر أكثر من 19 ألف قطعة، وسيعرضون في معرض قطر بباريس عددا من القطع النادرة والثمينة التي تعود لإنجازات سابقة، إضافة إلى أول مشاركة قطرية في الأولمبياد عام 1984 بـ لوس أنجلوس الأمريكية، بالإضافة إلى 3 آلاف قطعة تمثل بعض المقتنيات التي تمت استعارتها من المتاحف الأولمبية الدولية لإبرازها في أول مشاركة لمتحف قطر الأولمبي أولمبياد باريس 2024.

وكشف عن تدشين كتاب خلال معرض قطر على هامش الأولمبياد يحمل هوية الحركة الأولمبية بعد أن تم اعتماده، كما سيتم تدشينه بشكل رسمي وتقديمه باللغة العربية بالتعاون مع اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية والأكاديمية الأولمبية القطرية وذلك بعد أن تمت ترجمته من اللغتين الفرنسية والإنجليزية إلى اللغة العربية لمؤلفه ومؤسس الحركة الأولمبية الفرنسي البارون بيير دي كوبرتان، لافتا إلى أن تدشين هذا الكتاب يعد إنجازا كبيرا يضاف إلى مكتبة اللجنة الأولمبية الدولية والمكتبات العربية والعالمية لما يحتويه عن تاريخ ومهد الأولمبياد.

وأوضح أن تدشين الكتاب سيتم خلال حفل الاستقبال الذي ستقيمه اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية في الأول من أغسطس المقبل بحضور نخبة من المسؤولين باللجنة الأولمبية الدولية، وبحضور سعادة الشيخ جوعان بن حمد آل ثاني رئيس اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية، ورئيس وفد دولة قطر المشارك في الأولمبياد، منوها بتواجد فريق عمل متكامل يشارك في فعاليات المعرض، مكلف بتنظيم يليق بمستوى الحدث، يضاف له فريق فني تنحصر مهمته في شرح ما يحتويه المعرض من مقتنيات للزائرين، من بينها أول بطولة حققها البطل العالمي الراحل محمد علي كلاي بعرض القفاز الذي فاز به خلال مشاركته في أولمبياد روما عام 1960، والميدالية الذهبية التي حصدها البطل القطري في الوثب العالي معتز برشم خلال مشاركته في أولمبياد طوكيو 2020، كأول ميدالية ذهبية حققتها قطر في ألعاب القوى.

وأبرز أن المشاركة القطرية في المعرض تهدف إلى إبهار الزوار بتجربة متحف قطر الأولمبي ضمن شبكة متاحف اللجنة الأولمبية الدولية، مشيرا إلى أن قطر تحتفظ بتاريخ ناصع من خلال مشاركاتها في المحافل الرياضية الدولية وتوجهها نحو تسخير كافة الإمكانيات لبناء قاعدة صلبة في الاهتمام بالبنية التحتية والملاعب والإنشاءات، إلى جانب مكانتها المرموقة دوليا بعد استضافتها للعديد من البطولات، أبرزها استضافة بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، التي نالت بها ثقة الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم والمجتمع الرياضي الدولي كافة.

كما بين مدير متحف قطر الأولمبي 1-2-3، أن الهدف من المشاركة بهذا المعرض يأتي تطبيقا لشعار (الأولمبياد ليس فقط حلما) لما تمتلكه دولة قطر من تاريخ زاخر وحافل، وإبرازا لدور الدولة ومساهماتها في الحركة الأولمبية.

وأعرب عبد الله الملا، في ختام تصريحاته الخاصة لـ قنا، عن أمله في أن يستقطب المعرض عددا كبيرا من الزائرين للوقوف على تجربة قطر، تنفيذا لتوجيهات سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد آل ثاني رئيس مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر، في التأكيد على إقامة ثقافة تعليمية متحفية للزائرين باعتبارها الاستثمار الحقيقي الذي تضعه قطر من أولوياتها في الاعتماد على الكوادر الوطنية وتعليمهم، وإرسالهم إلى العديد من المعارض والفعاليات الدولية، حيث يمثل العنصر البشري أكبر اهتمامات الدولة تماشيا مع رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030.
