Qatar Boosts Annual Revenue by $31 Billion: Bloomberg Report

According to Bloomberg, Qatar, which announced an expansion in its liquefied natural gas industry last week to secure a larger share of the global natural gas trade, is set to generate over $30 billion in additional revenue annually from this expansion.

The report stated, “With the massive expansion planned in two phases, Qatar is poised to control around a quarter of the total liquefied natural gas market by the end of the decade, in addition to gaining increasing global influence and international wealth,” as reported by Al Arabiya.

Engineer Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, revealed plans to increase Qatar’s gas production capacity by another 13%, in addition to previously announced projects, raising the country’s liquefied natural gas production from 77 million metric tons annually to 142 million tons by 2030.

This expansion puts Qatar on track to produce the equivalent of about 7.25 million barrels of oil per day, according to the agency.

The report indicates that Qatar, already boasting one of the highest gross domestic product per capita in the world, will earn more revenues. Hydrocarbons, including liquefied natural gas, accounted for approximately 44% of Qatar’s GDP in 2022, according to Moody’s Investor Service estimates.

Once the liquefied gas expansion projects are completed, the additional gas production will increase the country’s annual revenues by around $31 billion, according to Bloomberg’s calculations based on recent long-term contract prices, assuming an oil price of around $80 per barrel. The oil price is used as a benchmark in calculating gas prices on an oil barrel equivalent basis.

كشف المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، عن خطط لتعزيز القدرة الإنتاجية للغاز القطري بنسبة 13% أخرى، بالإضافة إلى المشاريع المعلنة سابقًا، مما يرفع إنتاج البلاد من الغاز الطبيعي المسال من 77 مليون طن متري سنوياً حالياً إلى 142 مليون طن بحلول عام 2030.

تضع هذه التوسعة قطر على “الطريق الصحيح” لإنتاج ما يعادل نحو 7.25 ملايين برميل من النفط يومياً، وفق تعبير الوكالة.

يشير التقرير إلى أن قطر، التي تتمتع بالفعل بواحد من أعلى ناتج محلي إجمالي للفرد في العالم، ستحصل على المزيد من العائدات. وشكلت المواد الهيدروكربونية، بما في ذلك الغاز الطبيعي المسال، حوالي 44% من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي لقطر في عام 2022، وفقًا لتقديرات وكالة موديز لخدمات المستثمرين.

بمجرد استكمال مشاريع توسعة الغاز المسال، فإن الإنتاج الإضافي للغاز سيزيد الإيرادات السنوية للبلاد بنحو 31 مليار دولار، وفقًا لحسابات “بلومبيرغ” المبنية على أسعار العقود طويلة الأجل الأخيرة، التي تفترض أن سعر النفط يبلغ حوالي 80 دولارًا للبرميل. ويستخدم سعر النفط كسعر معياري في حساب أسعار الغاز بحساب المكافئ من الغاز الطبيعي لبرميل البترول.
