Qatari Plane Narrowly Avoids Collision with Ethiopian Aircraft over Gulf of Aden, Official Statement Reveals Details
The Somali Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the escape of a Qatar Airways Boeing 787 and an Ethiopian Airbus A350 from a imminent collision while flying over the Gulf of Aden near Somalia.
According to Yemeni media reports, the authority stated that “today at approximately 12:32 PM in East Africa, Qatar Airways flight (Qatar 6U) en route from Doha to Entebbe in Uganda was flying at a wrong fixed altitude (38,000 feet) mistakenly instructed by controllers in Mogadishu to climb to 40,000 feet where Ethiopian Airlines flight (602) was flying from Addis Ababa to Dubai.”
The authority added, “Fortunately, the aircraft’s TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) issued an urgent warning, alerting us to the presence of the other aircraft, and the two planes were dangerously close, but the equipment installed on both aircraft saved the situation.”

تحقق هيئة الطيران المدني الصومالية في نجاة طائرة تابعة للخطوط الجوية القطرية من طراز بوينغ 787 وطائرة إثيوبية من طراز A350 من حادث تصادم وشيك أثناء تحليقهما فوق خليج عدن بالقرب من الصومال.
وقالت الهيئة – في بيان لها بحسب وسائل إعلام يمنية – إنه “اليوم في حوالي الساعة 12:32 ظهرًا في شرق إفريقيا، تم إبلاغ طائرة الخطوط الجوية القطرية (Qatar 6U) التي تسلك طريق الدوحة – عنتيبي في أوغندا وكانت تحلق على ارتفاع ثابت (38000 قدم) بشكل خاطئ من قبل المراقبين في مقديشو للصعود إلى ارتفاع 40 ألف قدم حيث كانت تحلق في نفس المكان رحلة الخطوط الجوية الإثيوبية رقم (602) التي كانت في طريقها من أديس أبابا إلى دبي
وأضافت الهيئة : “لكن لحسن الحظ، أعطى جهاز TCAS (نظام تجنب الاصطدام الجوي) الملحق بالطائرة تحذيرا عاجلا وأخبرنا بوجود الطائرة الأخرى، وكانت الطائرتان على مسافة خطيرة من بعضهما البعض، لكن المعدات المثبتة على الطائرتين أنقذت الموقف.
