Mada Center Launches First Edition of Nafath Majlis

Doha: Mada Assistive Technology Center of the Ministry of Social Development and Family launched the first edition of the quarterly event “Nafath Majlis” under the title “Interdisciplinary Synergies: Pioneering Advances in Assistive Technologies and Digital Accessibility,” under the sponsorship of the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST).

In a statement on Saturday, the center highlighted that this event sheds light on topics related to digital accessibility and assistive technology, improving digital inclusivity and enabling people with disabilities to live independently and integrate into all aspects of life. The Nafath Majlis is held quarterly through a series of events, workshops, seminars, and discussions before the release of the quarterly “Nafath” journal, showcasing the latest research and relevant scientific papers.

The “Nafath” journal highlights the latest developments in innovation, digital accessibility, and assistive technology worldwide. The Nafath Majlis serves as a platform for presenting, discussing, and exchanging experiences about these developments, bringing together technology professionals, innovators, experts, researchers, and specialists in the field. It also provides an opportunity for interested students to expand their knowledge and explore the latest technological innovations through interactive workshops, enabling them to discuss topics presented by official speakers.

Acting Manager of Digital Access Programs at Mada Center, Amna Al Mutawa, stated that the Nafath Majlis seeks to attract those interested in digital accessibility, assistive technology, and the developments of the fourth industrial revolution to serve people with disabilities. She emphasized that hosting this event stems from the center’s belief in raising community awareness, particularly among web and software developers, about the importance of making their digital platforms accessible to people with disabilities by complying with digital content accessibility standards.

Dean of the College of Computing and Information Technology at UDST, Dr. Zakaria Maamar, emphasized the university’s role as an applied institution in recognizing the importance of technology in education and its significant capability to support students with disabilities by investing in this power for the benefit of the community and particularly its students. The university campus relies on various assistive technologies, alternative formats for course materials, and many other techniques, not only to comply with digital accessibility but also as bridges to knowledge, enabling students to engage in their studies in ways that suit their individual needs.

The first edition of the Nafath Majlis focuses on specific topics that will be highlighted in the upcoming issue of the “Nafath” journal. These sessions and workshops will provide a deeper exploration of the challenges hindering people with disabilities from accessing certain digital classifications, websites, and smart applications. They will also discuss ways to develop and adapt digital content to be more inclusive, thereby reducing the digital divide for people with disabilities.

UDST sponsored the first edition of the Nafath Majlis in line with the terms of the strategic partnership with Mada Center, reaffirming its prominent role in supporting digital inclusivity for people with disabilities. It also demonstrates UDST’s commitment to supporting research, innovations, and enhanced programs for digital access and assistive technology.

وأفاد المركز، في بيان له اليوم، بأن هذه الفعالية تسلط الضوء على الموضوعات المتعلقة بالنفاذ الرقمي والتكنولوجيا المساعدة التي تحسن الشمولية الرقمية وتمكن الأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة من العيش باستقلالية تامة وتعزز ادماجهم في كافة جوانب الحياة، حيث يعقد /مجلس نفاذ/ على شكل سلسلة من الفعاليات وورش العمل وجلسات وندوات وحلقات نقاشية بشكل ربع سنوي قبل صدور دورية /نفاذ/ الربع سنوية، وتستعرض أحدث الأبحاث والأوراق العلمية ذات الصلة والتي سيتم تضمينها في مجلة نفاذ.

وتسلط دورية /نفاذ/ الضوء على آخر التطورات في مجال الابتكار والنفاذ الرقمي والتكنولوجيا المساعدة في العالم، كما يعتبر /مجلس نفاذ/ المنصة التي يتم من خلالها طرح ومناقشة وتبادل الخبرات حول هذه التطورات، ويعتبر كذلك ملتقى يجمع صناع التكنولوجيا والمبتكرين والخبراء والباحثين والمختصين في هذا المجال، فضلا عن أنه يتيح الفرصة للطلبة المهتمين بتوسيع معارفهم والاطلاع على أحدث الابتكارات والحلول التكنولوجية من خلال عدد من الورش التفاعلية التي تمكنهم من مناقشة ما يتم طرحه من قبل المتحدثين الرسميين.

وأوضحت السيدة آمنة المطوع مدير إدارة برامج النفاذ الرقمي بالإنابة في مركز مدى، في تصريح لها، أن مجلس نفاذ يسعى إلى استقطاب المهتمين بمجال النفاذ الرقمي والتكنولوجيا المساعدة وتطورات الثورة الصناعية الرابعة لخدمة الأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة، إضافة إلى أن إقامة هذا الحدث يأتي انطلاقا من إيمان المركز بأهمية رفع وعي المجتمع، ولا سيما مطورو الويب والبرمجيات المختلفة حول أهمية أن تكون منصاتهم الرقمية قابلة لنفاذ الأشخاص من ذوي الإعاقة عن طريق الالتزام بمعايير الوصول إلى المحتوى الرقمي.

من جانبه، قال الدكتور زكريا معمر عميد كلية الحوسبة وتكنولوجيا المعلومات في جامعة الدوحة للعلوم والتكنولوجيا: باعتبارنا جامعة تطبيقية، ندرك أهمية التكنولوجيا في التعليم وقدرتها الكبيرة على دعم الطلاب ذوي الإعاقة ونستثمر في هذه القوة لصالح مجتمعنا وبشكل خاص طلابنا.. نعتمد في الحرم الجامعي على عدد من التكنولوجيات المساعدة، وصيغ بديلة لمواد الدورات الدراسية والعديد من التقنيات الأخرى، ليس فقط التزاما بالنفاذ الرقمي بل باعتبارها جسورا للمعرفة، تمكن الطلاب من الانخراط في دراستهم بالطرق التي تناسب احتياجاتهم الفردية”، مشيرا إلى أن رعاية واستضافة /مجلس نفاذ/ فرصة لكل فرد من المجتمع للمشاركة والمطالبة بضمان تكافؤ الفرص للجميع.

وتركز النسخة الأولى من /مجلس نفاذ/ على موضوعات محددة سيتم تسليط الضوء عليها في العدد القادم من دورية /نفاذ/، إذ ستوفر هذه الجلسات وورش العمل استكشافا أعمق للتحديات التي تحول دون وصول الأشخاص من ذوي الإعاقة إلى بعض المصنفات الرقمية وبعض المواقع والتطبيقات الذكية، إضافة إلى سبل تطوير وتكييف المحتويات الرقمية لتكون أكثر شمولا، ما سيؤدي إلى تقليل الفجوة الرقمية لدى الأشخاص من ذوي الإعاقة.

وقامت جامعة الدوحة للعلوم والتكنولوجيا برعاية النسخة الأولى من /مجلس نفاذ/، تفعيلا لبنود الشراكة الاستراتيجية مع مركز /مدى/، وتأكيدا على دورها البارز في دعم الشمولية الرقمية للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة، وحرصا على دعم البحوث والابتكارات والبرامج المعززة للنفاذ الرقمي والتكنولوجيا المساعدة.
