Doha Film Institute to Launch “Geekdom 3000” Thursday

Doha: Doha Film Institute (DFI) announced the largest pop culture event in Qatar (Geekdom 3000) due in Thursday. The event features the most extensive fun-filled line-up to date for all gaming enthusiasts, geeks and superfans.

Running until Feb. 24, the event will bring together comic crusaders to sci-fi enthusiasts to unite every day from 3 pm to 11 pm for an epic celebration light years ahead at the Geekdom Building on Lusail Boulevard.

Chief Executive Officer of DFI Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi said: “In a world where the lines between technology, art, and storytelling increasingly blur, Geekdom offers an essential platform for a new generation of creatives and enthusiasts, where local and international talents can connect, share, and innovate.

Geekdom 3000 is a celebration of originality, a place where the fantastical becomes tangible and where every participant can explore and broaden their creative horizons”.

One of the most anticipated events of Geekdom 3000 is the Gaming Tournament organized in partnership with Showdown, which brings an electrifying array of games for visitors to play, and master hosted at The Forgotten Planet with winners standing to win a total of QR 75,000.

Prepare for a captivating display of creativity and flair at the annual cosplay competition Powered by TOD, organized in partnership with Nakama. The competition will be held in three categories performance and craftsmanship for those over 14 years, and a kids category for 5 to 13-year-olds.

Visitors can also explore Error 404, a themed escape room where participants are tasked with solving a series of puzzles and riddles within a 60-minute timeframe to “escape” the room. Rooms are designed with distinct storylines, such as escaping from inside of a computer.

The Sixth Dimension is an innovative and interactive environment featuring cutting-edge digital technologies. It fosters imagination, creativity, and innovation through futuristic installations, educational games, apps, and new digital tools. The Sixth Dimension will offer a one-of-a-kind interactive experience in Qatar, showcase the latest advancements in technology and art, present an educational exhibition, and bring joy and fun to audiences of all ages.

DFI established Geekdom 3000 in 2013, since then it has progressed to be a largest pop culture event in Qatar offering the community a unique opportunity and a wide range of fields of kinetic arts and visual storytelling such as art, films, music, video games, animation, television.

The event promoted its standing as a cross-generational innovative space for all age groups to support a wide spectrum of content makers.

الدوحة: أعلنت مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام عن إقامة أكبر حدث للثقافة الدارجة في قطر /جيكدوم 3000/، الذي ينطلق يوم الخميس المقبل، ويتضمن العديد من الفعاليات وعروض الأفلام والحفلات الموسيقية الحية، وجلسات نقاشية وغيرها.

ويجمع هذا الحدث، الذي يستمر حتى 24 فبراير الجاري، عشاق فن الكوميك وهواة الخيال العلمي يوميا من الساعة 3 مساء حتى 11 مساء، وذلك في مبنى جيكدوم في درب لوسيل.

وفي هذا السياق، قالت السيدة فاطمة حسن الرميحي الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام: في عالم يتزايد فيه تلاشي الخطوط الفاصلة بين التكنولوجيا والفن وسرد القصص، يوفر /جيكدوم 3000/ منصة أساسية لجيل جديد من المبدعين وعشاق الفن، حيث يمكن للمواهب من قطر والعالم التواصل والمشاركة والابتكار.

وأضافت الرميحي قمنا هذا العام بتوسيع /جيكدوم 3000/ ليتضمن مجموعة من الأنشطة التي تلقى اهتماما لدى مجتمعنا الإبداعي المتنوع والمتنامي.

من جهته، قال السيد عبد الله المسلم، رئيس الشؤون الإدارية بمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام ومؤسس /جيكدوم/: “يحمل /جيكدوم 3000/ رؤية مستقبلية، ويعبر الحدود، ويحفز المشاركين على كسر الحواجز للعثور على فرص جديدة تجمع بين المتعة والإبداع، حيث إنه انعكاس واضح لالتزام مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام بدعم وتطوير مجتمع حيوي يتميز بالشمولية والإبداع من الباعة ومطوري الألعاب والفنانين، فأصبح ركيزة رئيسية على أجندة قطر الخاصة بالثقافة الدارجة، وأضاف قيمة مهمة للاقتصاد المحلي، و/جيكدوم 3000/ يعتبر احتفالا بالأصالة ومكانا يصبح فيه الخيال واقعا، ويتيح لكل مشارك استكشاف وتوسيع آفاقه الإبداعية”.

أما أبرز الفعاليات المنتظرة في الحدث هي بطولة الألعاب التي تنظم بالشراكة مع “شو داون”، وتضم مجموعة مختلفة من الألعاب المثيرة التي يمكن للزوار المشاركة فيها. وتقام البطولة في “قاعة اللاعبين: ذا فورغتن بلانت”، وسيحصل الفائزون على جوائز نقدية تقدر قيمتها الإجمالية بـ 75000 ريال قطري.

كما يشهد /جيكدوم 3000/ عرضا مميزا يجمع بين الذوق والإبداع في مسابقة الأزياء التنكرية السنوية، وستقام المسابقة ضمن ثلاث فئات: الأداء والحرفية لمن تزيد أعمارهم عن 14 عاما، وفئة الأطفال من سن 5 إلى 13 عاما.

ويمكن للزوار أيضا استكشاف مغامرة “الخطأ 404″، وهي لعبة من ألعاب غرف الهروب، إلى جانب فعالية البعد السادس التي تقدم تجربة تفاعلية فريدة من نوعها في قطر، وستعرض أحدث التطورات في التكنولوجيا والفن، وتقدم معرضا تعليميا، وتجلب الفرح والمرح للجمهور من جميع الأعمار.

وتشمل الأنشطة الإضافية ورش عمل حول أساسيات صناعة الفخار، بالإضافة إلى عودة عروض إيقاعات أجيال المبهجة وليالي الكاريوكي. ولعشاق الأفلام، ستقدم مجموعة من عروض الأفلام؛ منها “سوميكو غوراشي”، و”دوري الرجل النبيل الاستثنائي”، بالإضافة إلى برنامج من الأفلام القصيرة المحلية.

تجدر الإشارة إلى أن فعالية /جيكدوم/ أسست من قبل مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام في عام 2013، وتطورت لتصبح أكبر فعالية للثقافة الدارجة في قطر، لتوفر للمجتمع فرصا فريدة ووسائل جديدة متنوعة للانخراط في مجالات الفنون الحركية، والسرد القصصي البصري (الفن، الأفلام، الموسيقى، ألعاب الفيديو، الرسوم المتحركة، التلفزيون).
