As Ramadan approaches in less than six weeks, millions of Muslims worldwide are gearing up to welcome the Holy Month. In 2024, for the first time since 2000, Ramadan will align with the winter season.

Winter officially begins on December 21 and concludes on March 20, marking the period during which Ramadan will be observed globally. The start and end of Ramadan are determined by the appearance of the crescent moon, following the lunar calendar. This calendar, which is shorter than the Gregorian calendar, causes Ramadan’s dates to shift by 10 to 12 days each year, allowing it to cycle through different seasons over a 33-year period.

This year, Ramadan is expected to commence on Monday, March 11. On the first day, Muslims around the world will observe a fast from dawn to sunset, with the fasting duration gradually increasing throughout the month.

The crescent moon is anticipated to be visible on Sunday, March 10, corresponding to the 29th day of the Islamic month of Shaban.
