QM Unveils Full Line-Up of Designers and Exhibitions for Inaugural Edition of Design Doha

Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) on Thursday announced the plans for six exhibitions that will open during the first week of Design Doha, the biennial showcase for excellence and innovation in the design community in Qatar and the MENA region.

The opening week of the biennial will run from 24 February to 28 February, with programming continuing through 5 August 2024.

In addition to Arab Design Now, five additional exhibitions will open as part of the inaugural edition of Design Doha. They are Colours of the City: A Century of Architecture in Doha; Weaving Poems; 100/100 HUNDRED BEST ARABIC POSTERS Round 04; and Cultural Kinship.

Artistic Director of Design Doha, Glenn Adamson, said that the inaugural edition of our biennial spans the full breadth of design in the Arab world, showing the vitality of the region’s creatives.

Featuring conversations with global industry leaders as well commissions from international designers, a juried prize, and more, Design Doha be an important new platform for regional designers, he said adding “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to advance their artistic and commercial practices, and welcome the international design community to Doha.” The exhibition programme will be anchored by Arab Design Now, a regional survey of more than 70 Arab designers featuring 38 commissioned works, which will be on view at M7, Doha’s centre for innovation, entrepreneurship, fashion, and design. Encompassing themes that respond to the unique geographies and cultural values of the region, the exhibition highlights the design sentiments, aesthetics, and preoccupations of the Levant, the Gulf, and North Africa.

الدوحة: أعلنت متاحف قطر عن خططها لإقامة ستة معارض تفتتح خلال الأسبوع الأول من بينالي “دوحة التصميم”، ومنها معرض ألوان المدينة: قرن من العمارة في الدوحة، ونسج القصائد، و 100/100 – أفضل مئة ملصق عربي – الجولة الرابعة والذي تحتضنه دولة قطر لأول مرة، واللحمة الثقافية، ومعرض حرف أوزبكستان: تاريخ بين الخيوط.

وتقام المعارض خلال الفترة من 24 فبراير المقبل وحتى 28 من ذات الشهر، على أن يتواصل البينالي فعالياته حتى 5 أغسطس المقبل.

وفي هذا السياق قال غلين أدامسون، المدير الفني لبينالي دوحة التصميم، إن النسخة الافتتاحية لبرنامج بينالي التصميم، تعرض القصة الكاملة للتصميم في العالم العربي، مسلطة الضوء على النشاط الإبداعي الذي تشهده المنطقة.

ولفت إلى أن دوحة التصميم تشكل منصة هامة للمبدعين في المنطقة، من خلال ما تقدمه من سلسلة حوارات مع قادة الصناعة على مستوى العالم، وأعمال كلف مصممون عالميون بتصميمها، وجوائز تقدمها لجنة تحكيم، والمزيد من ذلك، مضيفا “نغتنم هذه الفرصة للمضي قدما بممارساتهم الفنية والتجارية، ونرحب بمجتمع التصميم الدولي في الدوحة”.

ويرتكز برنامج البينالي الذي يعرض أعمالا لأكثر من 100 مصمم من منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، على معرض “التصميم العربي الآن”، وهو استعراض إقليمي لأكثر من 70 مصمما عربيا، يعرضون 38 عملا كلفوا بتصميمها، والتي ستكون متاحة للزوار في M7، مركز قطر الإبداعي للابتكار وريادة الأعمال في مجالات الأزياء والتصميم.

جدير بالذكر أن بينالي معرض يقام كل عامين للتميز والابتكار في مجتمع التصميم في قطر ومنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا.
