X Launches Passkey Feature on iPhones

Washington: The social media platform X (formerly Twitter) announced the availability of the passkeys feature in the iPhone application to improve the security of accounts on the platform.

Passkey support will only be available to users in the US at the present time, but it is expected that this feature will be available on a global scale during the coming period.

X encourages users to use the new feature because it gives them a seamless login experience, when you finish setting it up, you can use your private passkey to log into the account across different devices without having to remember or reset the forgotten password.

Passkeys provide a stronger level of security for accounts. Since they are uniquely generated by your device, they are less vulnerable to security threats such as fraudulent, deceptive, or unauthorized attacks.

An X passkey can be created through the application directly after updating it, by going to “Settings and privacy,” then click “Security and account access”, then “Security,” then “Under Additional password protection,” click “Passkey,” then enter the password and follow the rest of the instructions on the screen.

The key can also be deleted later from the settings themselves.

Passkeys are stored in the iCloud Keychain service, and to benefit from them in various applications, services, and websites, your iPhone must be running iOS 16 or later.

Passkeys rely on biometric authentication of the user’s identity. It requires confirming identity with a fingerprint or facial recognition, unlike traditional passwords that rely on the use of letters, numbers, and symbols.

وتشجع إكس المستخدمين على استخدام الميزة الجديدة؛ لأنها تتيح لهم تجربة تسجيل دخول سلسة، فعند إنهاء إعدادها، يمكنك استخدام مفتاح المرور الخاص لتسجيل الدخول إلى الحساب عبر أجهزة مختلفة دون الحاجة إلى تذكر كلمة المرور المنسية أو إعادة تعيينها.

وتوفر ميزة مفاتيح المرور مستوى أقوى من الأمان للحسابات؛ لأنها تنشأ على نحو فريد في الجهاز، وهي أقل عرضة للتهديدات الأمنية مثل الهجمات الاحتيالية مقارنة بكلمات المرور التقليدية.

ويمكن إنشاء مفتاح مرور لحساب إكس عبر التطبيق مباشرة بعد تحديثه، من خلال الذهاب إلى “الإعدادات والخصوصية”، ثم الضغط على “الأمان والوصول إلى الحساب”، ثم اختيار “الأمان”، ثم الضغط على “حماية كلمة المرور الإضافية”، ثم اختيار “مفتاح المرور” Passkey، ثم إدخال كلمة المرور، واتباع باقي التعليمات على الشاشة، كما يمكن حذف المفتاح لاحقا من الإعدادات نفسها.

وتخزن مفاتيح المرور في خدمة سلسلة مفاتيح آي كلاود iCloud Keychain، وللاستفادة منها في التطبيقات والخدمات والمواقع المختلفة، يجب أن يعمل هاتف آيفون بنظام التشغيل iOS 16 فما أحدث.

وتعتمد مفاتيح المرور Passkeys على المصادقة البيومترية لهوية المستخدم؛ إذ تتطلب تأكيد الهوية ببصمة الإصبع أو خاصية تعرف الوجوه، خلافا لكلمات المرور التقليدية التي تعتمد على استخدام الحروف والأرقام والرموز.
