Mowasalat (Karwa) Announces Successful Autonomous E-Bus Trial Run

Doha: Mowasalat (Karwa), in collaboration with Yutong, has successfully conducted a standard trial operation of an autonomous e-bus with some passengers onboard at Lusail Bus Depot. The trial was carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

This comes in the context of carrying out several MOTs strategies, most importantly, the strategy for gradual and comprehensive transitioning to electric transit system, and the Autonomous Vehicles Strategy the MOT launched last September, and which aims at supporting innovation and the use of A.I. technologies and keeping up with global advancements of the transportation industry. The Strategy also aims at rolling out smart and eco-friendly transportation systems to achieve numerous benefits such as lower energy and fuel consumption, less harmful emissions and carbon footprints, less traffic accidents, and better quality of life, in step with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar’s National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE).

The autonomous e-bus represents a fusion of cutting-edge technology and environmental stewardship. Powered by clean electric energy, these buses offer zero emissions, marking a significant stride towards a greener future. They are equipped with advanced sensors, high-definition cameras, laser, and ultrasonic radars, ensuring unparalleled safety and security standards. This technology not only enhances the efficiency of transportation but also contributes to a safer, more sustainable urban environment.

Project Manager at MOT’s Public Transport Affairs Department Mesned Ali Al Misned said, “This trial is an extension of the results achieved at the 2022 successful trial operation of an autonomous electric minibus, without passengers, on Qatar Foundations Campus. It also satisfies the goals of the Autonomous Vehicles Strategy, thereby enhancing the goals of taking advantage of the advanced technologies according to newest universal smart and eco-friendly public transit systems.” Al Misned indicated that MOT will continue efforts to further develop the transportation and mobility system, supporting all economic and service sectors in Qatar and leaving a sustainable legacy for generations to come.

الدوحة: قامت شركة مواصلات (كروه)، بالتعاون مع شركة (يوتونج)، وتحت إشراف وزارة المواصلات بتجربة تشغيل قياسية ناجحة للحافلة الكهربائية ذاتية القيادة وعلى متنها عدد من الركاب في مستودع لوسيل للحافلات الكهربائية.

وتأتي هذه الخطوة في إطار تنفيذ استراتيجيات وزارة المواصلات المتصلة وأهمها استراتيجية التحول الشامل والتدريجي لمنظومة النقل العام الكهربائي واستراتيجية المركبات ذاتية القيادة التي أطلقتها الوزارة في سبتمبر الماضي، والتي تهدف إلى دعم الابتكار واستخدام تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي ومواكبة التطور العالمي في قطاع النقل والمواصلات، واعتماد وسائل ونظم نقل ذكية وصديقة للبيئة، لتحقيق منافع متعددة أهمها توفير استهلاك الطاقة والوقود، وتخفيض الانبعاثات الضارة والبصمة الكربونية للدولة، وتقليل الحوادث المرورية، وتحسين جودة الحياة، بما يتماشى مع تحقيق رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030، واستراتيجية قطر الوطنية للبيئة والتغير المناخي.

وتعمل الحافلات ذاتية القيادة بالطاقة الكهربائية النظيفة دون انبعاثات كربونية، وهي بمثابة نتاج دمج التقنيات المتطورة مع الوعي البيئي، وتعتمد في مساراتها على أجهزة استشعار متطورة، وكاميرات عالية الدقة، ومستشعرات ليزر، ورادار يعمل بالموجات فوق الصوتية، لضمان تحقيق أعلى معايير الأمن والسلامة، ولا تعمل هذه التكنولوجيا على تعزيز كفاءة منظومة النقل والمواصلات فحسب، بل أيضا تساهم في خلق بيئة حضرية آمنة ومستدامة.

وقال السيد مسند علي المسند مدير مشاريع في إدارة شؤون النقل العام بوزارة المواصلات: “إن هذه التجربة امتداد للنتائج المحققة من التجربة السابقة لتشغيل حافلة كهربائية ذاتية القيادة دون ركاب داخل حرم مؤسسة قطر بنجاح خلال عام 2022، كما تواكب خطط استراتيجية المركبات ذاتية القيادة مما يعزز أهداف الاستفادة من تطبيقات التكنولوجيات المتطورة وفق أحدث الأنظمة العالمية الذكية والصديقة للبيئة في مجال النقل العام”.

وأشار إلى أن الوزارة ستواصل بذل كل الجهود لتطوير منظومة النقل والمواصلات، لدعم كافة القطاعات الاقتصادية والخدمية في الدولة، وترك إرث مستدام للأجيال المقبلة.

من جانبه، قال السيد أحمد حسن العبيدلي، الرئيس التنفيذي للعمليات بشركة مواصلات (كروه): “إن التشغيل الناجح للحافلة الكهربائية ذاتية القيادة ليس مجرد إنجاز تكنولوجي، بل هو شهادة على التزامنا بالاستدامة البيئية وتبني الحلول المبتكرة”.

وأضاف أن هذا المشروع “يعد إحدى الركائز الأساسية نحو التحديث الشامل لمنظومة النقل في قطر، فمن خلال دمج تكنولوجيا القيادة الذاتية مع التزامنا باستخدام المركبات العاملة بدون انبعاثات، فإننا نضع معايير جديدة في مجال النقل، ونساهم بشكل فعال في تحقيق الأهداف البيئية للدولة وتعزيز نوعية الحياة للمجتمع القطري”.
