Microsoft to Launch Program to Receive Security Updates Directed to Windows 10 System

Washington: The American company Microsoft announced Wednesday that it will launch a program to receive security updates directed to the Windows 10 system after its support ends in Oct. 2025.

The company explained that this program allows users to receive security updates for Windows 10 for an additional three years after 2025, but will be in exchange for a paid subscription paid by users who wish to receive support for the system for a long period, while the extended support program was previously limited only to Microsoft commercial customers and not individual customers, as this company did with the Windows 7 system.

This is the first time that Microsoft make this program available to all users, which means that individuals who use Windows 10 on their personal devices will be able to pay for extended support after 2025 if they do not want to upgrade to Windows 11, the company has not revealed pricing information yet, but the support document published today on its official website indicates that individual and institutional customers will be able to join the program in exchange for an annual subscription.

Microsoft affirmed that it is committed to the end of support for Windows 10 in Oct. 2025 and has no plans to extend it, which means customers will have to participate in the extended support program starting in Nov. 2025 to obtain monthly security updates, otherwise, their devices will be threatened by vulnerabilities that will be discovered later after the official end of support, as the company will provide security updates only with this support, and will not issue any improvements or new features for Windows 10.

Microsoft also announced that corporate customers will have the option to convert Windows 10 computers into Windows 365 devices to run Windows 11 in the cloud if those devices are not eligible to upgrade to Windows 11. The company’s announcement comes amid reports indicating its intention to launch Windows 12 in 2024.

وأوضحت الشركة أن هذا البرنامج يسمح للمستخدمين باستقبال التحديثات الأمنية لنظام /ويندوز 10/ لمدة ثلاث سنوات إضافية بعد عام 2025، إلا أنه سيكون مقابل اشتراك مأجور يدفعه المستخدمون الراغبون في تلقي الدعم للنظام لمدة طويلة، في حين كان برنامج الدعم الممدد سابقا مقتصرا فقط على العملاء التجاريين لمايكروسوفت دون العملاء الأفراد، كما فعلت هذه الشركة مع نظام /ويندوز 7/.

وأكدت مايكروسوفت أنها ملتزمة بموعد انتهاء الدعم الخاص بويندوز 10 في /أكتوبر/ عام 2025، ولا يوجد لديها خطط لمده، مما يعني اضطرار العملاء إلى الاشتراك في برنامج الدعم الممدد بداية من /نوفمبر/ من العام ذاته للحصول على التحديثات الأمنية الشهرية، وإلا ستكون أجهزتهم مهددة بالثغرات التي ستكتشف لاحقا بعد انتهاء الدعم رسميا، حيث ستوفر الشركة التحديثات الأمنية فقط مع هذا الدعم، ولن تصدر أي تحسينات أو مزايا جديدة لويندوز 10.

وأعلنت مايكروسوفت أيضا أن عملاء الشركات سيكون لديهم خيار تحويل أجهزة الحاسوب العاملة بنظام ويندوز 10 إلى أجهزة تعمل بنظام ويندوز 365 لتشغيل ويندوز 11 سحابيا، إن كانت تلك الأجهزة غير مؤهلة للترقية إلى ويندوز 11.

ويأتي إعلان الشركة وسط تقارير تشير إلى عزمها إطلاق /ويندوز 12/ خلال عام 2024.
