Turkey’s Start-up Scene Attracts More Qatari Investments

The Turkish newspaper “Daily Sabah” published a report revealing a significant rise in foreign investments in the capital city Ankara and other cities. Qatar is among the countries that have been particularly focused on seizing opportunities presented by various Turkish markets in the recent period. This is due to Qatar’s unwavering confidence in the strength and resilience of the Turkish economy, which currently stands out as one of the fastest-growing economies. A key point in Qatar’s projects in Istanbul is the diversification across various sectors, including tourism, agriculture, and particularly entrepreneurship and start-up projects, which currently top Qatar’s investment list in Turkey.
The report highlights that Qatari investments in the start-up projects sector have increased by at least 20% during the current year compared to the previous year. This interest in such projects is not limited to one party but extends to both the Qatari government and private sector, as exemplified by the latest deal by the Qatar Investment Authority in this field. They invested $105 million in the software company “Insider,” headquartered in Istanbul. These funds are expected to be used for product development and expanding its presence in local markets, followed by entry into other markets, especially those near Turkey.
Furthermore, the report notes that many Qatari investors have entered various start-up projects in recent times, particularly those related to trade, industry, financial technology, and sustainability. Ankara aims to promote and enhance these areas in the coming period by increasing foreign investment rates, relying on private sector representatives in Qatar who believe in the opportunities available in Turkey and its potential to deliver anticipated profitable returns.
