Qatar Museums Organizes Large-Scale Contemporary Art Exhibition in China

Doha: Qatar Museums, in collaboration with Yuz Museum, will organize the first formative, large-scale travelling exhibition of Qatari and Qatar-based contemporary artists in China under the title “Watering the Desert.. Contemporary Art from Qatar”.
The exhibition will showcase the work of 34 multidisciplinary artists, designers, and filmmakers working within Qatars artistic scene. The exhibition is scheduled to be on view from Nov. 8, 2023 to March 3, 2024.
HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani stated: “Watering the Desert is the result of a 6-year strategic partnership between Qatar Museums (QM), Yuz Museum (YUZ), and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Based on this partnership, the exhibition highlights the importance of cross-cultural dialogue and exchanges through art. We are proud to collaborate with Yuz Museum in Shanghai, a prominent Chinese institution and a long-time partner of Qatar Museums, in showcasing and amplifying distinct voices and artistic practices from Qatar.” “Through the diverse, multidisciplinary works of these exhibited artists, this exhibition presents our thriving and globally connected creative ecosystem which is nourished by our local roots and traditions,” HE Sheikha Al Mayassa added.

Contemporary Art from Qatar bridges the gap between Qatar’s traditional practices and modern transformative spirit. The exhibition showcases an impressive array of multidisciplinary projects that focus on four interconnected themes: vivid recollections of shared experiences, commentary on complex social dynamics regarding the concept of home, urban transformations, and the fusion of art and the natural environment. Combined, this culturally rich presentation captures the current artistic zeitgeist in Qatar.

الدوحة: تنظم متاحف قطر بالتعاون مع متحف يوز شنغهاي، أول معرض تكويني متنقل واسع النطاق يعرض فن قطر المعاصر بعنوان /وأزهرت الصحراء/، وذلك ابتداء من يوم /الأربعاء/ القادم ويستمر إلى 3 مارس 2024 في الصين.
ويضم المعرض أعمال 34 من الفنانين ضمن تخصصات متعددة، والمصممين، وصانعي الأفلام، الذين يمارسون نشاطهم ضمن المشهد الفني في قطر.
وفي إطار تعليقها على هذا المعرض، قالت سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، رئيس مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر: “إن معرض /وأزهرت الصحراء/ يأتي ثمرة لشراكة استراتيجية مدتها 6 سنوات بين متاحف قطر ومتحف يوز شنغهاي، ومتحف مقاطعة لوس أنجلوس للفنون. وعلى أساس هذه الشراكة، يسلط المعرض الضوء على أهمية الحوار والتبادل الثقافي من خلال الفن، ونحن فخورون بالتعاون مع متحف يوز في شنغهاي ، وتربط متاحف قطر بهذه المؤسسة الصينية البارزة شراكة طويلة الأمد تركز على عرض وإيصال أصوات المواهب المتميزة والممارسات الفنية التي تزخر بها قطر”، مضيفة: “أنه من خلال الأعمال المتنوعة والمتعددة التخصصات التي أبدعها الفنانون المشاركون، يقدم هذا المعرض مشهدنا الإبداعي المزدهر وذي الصلات العالمية، والذي يستمد تألقه من جذورنا الثقافية وتقاليدنا المحلية”.
من جانبها قالت جوستين ألكساندريا تيك، الرئيس التنفيذي ومدير متحف يوز: “يملؤنا الفخر لاستضافة متاحف قطر، المؤسسة الموثوقة التي تربطنا بها شراكة وطيدة، في الصين لإقامة معرض متعمق عن الفن القطري المعاصر، والذي سيتيح الفرصة لإطلاق الحوار بين ثقافتينا المتنوعتين واستكشاف نقاط التلاقي بيننا والتأثيرات المتبادلة عبر تاريخنا، يمثل هذا الحدث خطوة مهمة متقدمة لمتحف يوز لتحقيق رؤية مؤسس متحفنا الراحل، بودي تيك، المتمثلة في تعزيز التبادلات مع العالم من خلال الفن والثقافة عاليا المستوى”، مضيفة: “أن هذه الشراكة طويلة الأمد بين المؤسسات الثلاث، متحف يوز، ومتاحف قطر، ومتحف مقاطعة لوس أنجلوس للفنون، تجعلنا نتطلع إلى مواصلة وتعزيز هذه الرابطة الفريدة والقيمة من خلال الحوارات التي نطلقها والبرامج التي نقيمها، كما نهدف لتسليط الضوء على التميز الفردي لكل منا وكشف أوجه التشابه بيننا في هذا العصر الجديد القائم على العولمة”.
وقال عيسى الشيراوي، رئيس قسم المعارض الدولية في متاحف قطر والقيم المشارك للمعرض: “تمثل المعارض المتنقلة فرصا عظيمة لتوسيع الرؤى، وتصحيح المفاهيم الخاطئة، وتقديم لمحات عن التجارب الفنية التي تزهر داخل قطر وحولها، وتفتخر مؤسستنا بكونها منصة عالمية يعرض الفنانون القطريون أعمالهم عبرها، سواء كانوا روادا أو فنانين في منتصف مسيرتهم المهنية أو ناشئين”.
وأردفت مريم حسن آل ثاني، القيم الفني المشارك للمعرض قائلة: “لقد حضرنا لهذا المعرض من منطلق منظورات جديدة تتعلق بالموضوعات المتكررة في الفن العربي المعاصر.. مشيرة إلى أن التعاون مع متحف يوز، الذي يشاركنا نفس الشغف بالفن المعاصر ويوفر منصات للأصوات الناشئة في عالم الفن، كان تجربة في غاية الفائدة، ونحن نتوق لمشاركتها مع جماهير جديدة”.
ويعد معرض /وأزهرت الصحراء/ معرضا لتقريب الرؤى بين الممارسات الفنية التقليدية في قطر والروح التحويلية الحديثة، حيث يقدم مجموعة رائعة من المشاريع متعددة التخصصات التي تركز على أربعة مواضيع مترابطة: ذكريات حية للتجارب المشتركة، وشرح الديناميكيات الاجتماعية المعقدة المتعلقة بمفهوم الوطن، والتحولات الحضرية، واندماج الفن والبيئة الطبيعية. ويجسد هذا العرض الغني ثقافيا، بمواضيعه مجتمعة، روح العصر الفني في قطر حاليا.
