Katara launches “Whispers of the Soul” Exhibition

Doha: The General Cultural Center Katara inaugurated the joint exhibition “Whispers of the Soul” in Hall 2 of Building 18 within the Katara Cultural Village. This exhibition will run until November 2nd.
“Whispers of the Soul” brings together the art of ultra-short stories by Dr. Ahmed Abdulmalik and visual arts created by the artist Maryam Al Mulla. Al Mulla drew inspiration from these stories and translated them into her art through lines, colors, and shadows.
Dr. Ahmed Abdulmalik explained that ultra-short stories are a contemporary form of art in the Arab world. Some experiments with this art form have emerged in the Gulf region, including his book “Whispers of the Soul,” which was published in Beirut in 2012. It is an art form that aligns with the fast-paced modern era, similar to the Japanese art of “Haiku” in its limited word count. Readers are also encouraged to engage with and interpret the text, making it a highly significant matter.
Dr. Abdulmalik commended the creativity of the artist Maryam Al Mulla, who absorbed the hidden ideas within the textual stories and beautifully expressed them through her paintings.
In turn, the visual artist Maryam Al Mulla expressed her joy in this joint experience with the literary scholar Dr. Ahmed Abdulmalik. She noted that his beautiful texts inspired her, leading her to try and embody her reading through the medium of painting to convey their meanings.
The introduction of the exhibition’s book, which includes both textual stories and visual artworks, states that ultra-short stories are an extension of the spirit and form of the Japanese “Haiku.” They are characterized by the narrative, condensation, contradiction, and the effectiveness of the sentence. The artist Maryam Al Mulla played a significant role in highlighting this project through her graceful and profound brushwork.

الدوحة: افتتحت المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي كتارا المعرض المشترك “وشوشات الروح” بقاعة 2 في مبنى رقم 18 في الحي الثقافي كتارا، ويستمر حتى الثاني من نوفمبر المقبل.
يجمع المعرض بين فن القصة القصيرة جدا من إبداع الدكتور أحمد عبد الملك، والفنون البصرية من إبداع الفنانة التشكيلية مريم الملا، التي استلهمت لوحاتها من هذه القصص وجسدتها بالخطوط والألوان والظلال.
وأوضح د. أحمد عبدالملك، في تصريح لوكالة الأنباء القطرية “قنا”، أن القصة القصيرة جدا تعتبر من الفنون الحديثة في الوطن العربي، وقد ظهرت بعض التجارب في منطقة الخليج، ومنها كتابه “وشوشات الروح”، الذي صدر في بيروت عام 2012، مشيرا إلى أنها فن ينسجم مع عصر السرعة، وهو شبيه بفن “الهايكو” الياباني لمحدودية عدد كلماته، إلى جانب مشاركة القارئ في التفكير في النص وتفسيره، وهي مسألة مهمة جدا.
ونوه عبدالملك بإبداع الفنانة مريم الملا التي استوعبت الأفكار المختبئة بين الكلمات في النصوص القصصية، وترجمتها في لوحات جميلة ومعبرة.
بدورها، أبدت الفنانة التشكيلية مريم الملا، في تصريح لـ “قنا”، سعادتها بهذه التجربة المشتركة مع الأديب الدكتور أحمد عبدالملك، مشيرة إلى أن نصوصه الجميلة ألهمتها، فحاولت تجسيد قراءتها من خلال التعبير بالرسم عن مضامينها.
وجاء في مقدمة كتاب المعرض، الذي اشتمل على النصوص القصصية واللوحات التشكيلية، أن القصة القصيرة جدا شكلت امتدادا لروح وشكل “الهايكو” الياباني، من حيث نوع القص والتكثيف المعبر عن حالات الإنسان وعلاقته بالآخر وبالمحيط الذي يعيش فيه، ويمتاز هذا النوع الأدبي بالحكائية والتكثيف والمفارقة وفعلية الجملة، وقد ساهمت الفنانة مريم الملا مساهمة فعالة في إبراز هذا المشروع، عبر ريشتها الرشيقة، عميقة المعاني.
