Doha: “The Asset” website has revealed Qatar’s plan to significantly boost its investments in China in the near future. This strategy revolves around seizing the opportunities offered by various markets in Beijing, with a particular focus on energy and technology. China has identified technology as a key pillar in shaping its new economy, due to its profound impact on enhancing business efficiency and productivity. Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund is currently engaged in negotiations across diverse sectors, including technology and real estate, with the aim of acquiring substantial stakes and complete ownership of several Chinese enterprises as part of its ambitious expansion into the Chinese market.

The report outlines Qatar’s intention to invest between $15 billion and $20 billion in China over the next five years, as announced by investment authorities based in Doha. This reflects their strong belief in the profitability of the Chinese markets, which are expected to witness substantial growth in the coming years, in light of China’s remarkable economic development. In recent months, Qatar actively participated in a $10 billion Qatari-Chinese investment fund, with Qatar contributing approximately 50%. The purpose of this fund is to inject Qatari capital into a range of projects that Beijing plans to launch in the near future. Similar investments have been made in companies like Oricell Therapeutics, Transcenta (biotechnology), and XPeng (electric cars), all of which received funding from the Qatar Sovereign Wealth Fund.
