Qatar Residents May Travel Visa-Free to Gulf Neighbors Soon

Doha: Qatar residents may soon have the opportunity to travel to neighboring Gulf countries without needing a visa, as the United Arab Emirates contemplates streamlining the visa application process for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, which includes Qatar.

Currently, citizens of GCC countries can freely traverse national borders without the burden of a visa requirement. However, for foreign residents, especially those residing in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, traveling between these countries often entails obtaining cumbersome visas.

The potential solution lies in a novel visa system proposal, as reported by Bloomberg. This prospective system aims to grant foreign residents of the aforementioned GCC nations the liberty to travel seamlessly within the GCC bloc without the impediment of visa applications. UAE Economy Minister Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri unveiled this proposal during a conference held in Abu Dhabi on September 26, 2023, and he emphasized that it would be formally presented in the very near future.
