Lusail: Future Capital of Islamic Culture 2030

Doha: The council’s initial session was followed by working sessions that included discussions on various executive reports and documents intended for presentation during the 12th session of the Conference of Ministers of Culture in the Islamic World. These discussions encompassed several topics, such as ISESCO’s achievements in the cultural domain, the Islamic World Heritage Committee’s report, guidelines for cultural policies, and sustainable development indicators in an ever-changing world. Additionally, there was a discussion of a report regarding the successful celebration of Doha as the capital of culture in the Islamic world, presented by Maryam Yassin Al Hammadi, the Director of the Department of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture.

Al Hammadi highlighted the collaborative efforts of Qatar’s cultural institutions and other entities in ensuring the success of the celebration held under the theme “Our Culture is Light.” The celebration featured nearly 300 events that extended beyond culture to focus largely on intellectual and global perspectives that nurture both local and international culture.

Al Hammadi mentioned that the meeting covered various topics that will be included in the agenda of the upcoming ministers of culture meeting on Monday. These topics revolved around cultural media in relation to heritage and cultural indicators, as well as ISESCO’s programs for the capitals of culture in the Islamic world, alongside numerous proposals to be presented at the ministerial conference.

Furthermore, the meeting involved the presentation of several proposals for hosting the capitals of culture in the Islamic world in the near future, including the nomination of Qatari Lusail city as the capital of culture in the Islamic world for the year 2030.

The meeting also addressed ISESCO’s document aimed at combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property, among other documents.

During ISESCO’s 18th meeting, the State of Palestine’s representative proposed making Jerusalem a permanent capital of Islamic culture. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s representative presented two proposals: the first related to launching cultural indicators in the Islamic world to collect data and monitor cultural and political activities, as well as to support member states in formulating their cultural policies. The second proposal centered on launching a program concerning the routes of Hajj, trade caravans, and the paths followed by travelers, scholars, students, and manuscripts, among other aspects.

وذكرت الحمادي أن الاجتماع ناقش مجموعة متنوعة من المواضيع التي ستُدرج على جدول أعمال اجتماع وزراء الثقافة المقبل يوم الاثنين. تتعلق هذه المواضيع بوسائل الإعلام الثقافية فيما يتعلق بالتراث والمؤشرات الثقافية، وبرامج منظمة الإسكو لعواصم الثقافة في العالم الإسلامي، بالإضافة إلى العديد من المقترحات التي ستُقدم إلى المؤتمر الوزاري.

وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، شهد الاجتماع تقديم مجموعة من المقترحات لاستضافة عواصم الثقافة في العالم الإسلامي خلال الفترة القادمة، بما في ذلك ترشيح مدينة لوسيل القطرية كعاصمة للثقافة في العالم الإسلامي لعام 2030.

ناقش الاجتماع أيضًا وثيقة منظمة الإسكو لمكافحة تهريب الممتلكات الثقافية، بالإضافة إلى وثائق أخرى.

وخلال الاجتماع الثامن عشر للإسكو، قدم ممثل دولة فلسطين مقترحًا لجعل القدس عاصمة دائمة للثقافة الإسلامية. وقدم ممثل المملكة العربية السعودية مقترحين: الأول متعلق بإطلاق مؤشرات ثقافية في العالم الإسلامي لجمع البيانات ومراقبة الأنشطة الثقافية والسياسية، ودعم الدول الأعضاء في وضع سياساتها الثقافية. أما المقترح الثاني، فكان متمحورًا حول إطلاق برنامج يتعلق بمسارات الحج وقوافل التجارة والطرق التي اتُبعت من قبل الحجاج والتجار والمسافرين والعلماء والطلاب والمخطوطات، وغير ذلك.
