Fire Station: Artist in Residence Announces 8th Edition of the Artist in Residence Programme

Doha: Fire Station: Artist in Residence announced the launch of its 8th edition of the Artist in Residence (AIR) programme, accompanied by the unveiling of the selected artists for this edition. This year’s programme will run from 18 September 2023 to 18 June 2024.

With more than 120 applications during the Open Call that took place between 15 February 2023 and 15 April 2023, 17 artists have been selected.

The Artist in Residence programme at Fire Station stands as a world-class artist residency programme designed to foster and promote Qatar’s artistic talents. Aspiring young artists are offered a transformative platform to sharpen their creative skills through expert mentorship, production support, and curatorial guidance.

It also includes access to studio space, production support, and expert mentorship to foster talent development. At the end of their residency, artists will have the opportunity to showcase their artworks in an exhibition held in the Garage Gallery of Fire Station that covers approximately 700 sq. ft.

Director of Fire Station Khalifa Ahmad Al Obaidly expressed, “We are thrilled to announce the beginning of the 8th edition of our Artist in Residence programme. This initiative has consistently demonstrated our dedication to nurturing and empowering Qatar’s emerging artistic talents. As these artists embark on a journey of creative exploration, we look forward to witnessing the evolution of their work and the impact they make within our artistic community and beyond.”

Head of Programs and Exhibitions of Fire Station Saida Al Khulaifi added, “Guided by our commitment to fostering creative talent in Qatar, our annual Artist in Residence programme provides a dedicated nine-month period for participating artists to refine their artistic practices across disciplines such as visual arts, photography, film, sound art and design.

Beyond individual growth, the programme offers a unique platform for artists to forge connections, drawing mutual inspiration from one another.” The Artist in Residence programme has achieved remarkable success, extending its influence to include a three-month residency at the esteemed Cite Internationale des Art in Paris and Studio 209 NY, a part of the renowned International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York City.

Collaborating with local entities and organisations, Fire Station further enriches the programme’s offerings through workshops and collaborative projects, fostering engagement within the artistic community and beyond.

الدوحة: أعلن “مطافئ: مقر الفنانين” عن أسماء المشاركين في النسخة الثامنة من برنامج “الإقامة الفنية”الذي يستمر حتى 15 يونيو المقبل.

وقد تلقى البرنامج 120 طلبا خلال الدعوة المفتوحة التي أغلقت في 15 إبريل الماضي، وتم اختيار 17 فنانا من داخل وخارج دولة قطر.

ويهدف البرنامج إلى رعاية وتنشيط وتعزيز المجتمع الفني والإبداعي لدولة ‏قطر، كما يوفر للفنانين الشباب فرصة لتنمية مواهبهم من خلال دعم إنتاجهم الفني، وتزويدهم بمشورة ‏القيمين الفنيين، وتوجيه الخبراء لهم، كما يوفر لهم إمكانية الاستفادة من مساحات الاستوديو.

وفي نهاية فترة الإقامة، ‏سيحصل الفنانون على فرصة لعرض أعمالهم الفنية في معرض يقام في جاليري الكراج بمطافئ، والذي تبلغ مساحته 700 قدم مربعة.

وقال السيد خليفة أحمد العبيدلي، مدير مطافئ: مقر الفنانين‏:‏” يسعدنا أن نعلن عن تدشين النسخة الثامنة من برنامج الإقامة الفنية. ولطالما أظهرت هذه المبادرة التزامنا برعاية ‏وتمكين المواهب الفنية الناشئة في قطر. وبينما يبدأ هؤلاء الفنانون رحلة الاستكشاف الإبداعي، فإننا نتطلع إلى مشاهدة ‏تطور أعمالهم والأثر الذي يحدثونه داخل مجتمعنا الفني وخارجه.” من جانبها قالت سعيدة الخليفي، رئيس قسم البرامج والمعارض في مطافئ:” انطلاقا من التزامنا بتعزيز المواهب الإبداعية في قطر، يوفر ‏برنامج الإقامة الفنية السنوي للفنانين فترة تسعة أشهر يعمل فيها الفنانون على صقل ممارستهم الفنية في عديد من التخصصات ‏مثل الفنون البصرية، والتصوير الفوتوغرافي، والأفلام، والفنون الصوتية، والتصميم .. وبالإضافة إلى تطورهم الفردي، يقدم ‏البرنامج منصة فريدة يوثق عبرها الفنانون علاقاتهم، ويستخلصون الإلهام المتبادل من بعضهم البعض.

وكان برنامج الإقامة الفنية قد شهد نجاحا باهرا، وتم توسيع نطاقه ليشمل فترة إقامة لمدة ثلاثة أشهر في المدينة الدولية ‏للفنون في باريس وفي “استوديو 209” نيويورك، ضمن برنامج الاستوديو والقيمين الدولي بنيويورك ‏(ISCP)‏. ‏هذا ويتعاون مطافئ مع الهيئات والمؤسسات المحلية في مجموعة من الأنشطة التي تضم ورشات عمل ومشاريع تعاونية ‏مصممة لإشراك جميع منتسبي البرنامج، وكذلك المجتمع في نطاقه الواسع.
