Qatar’s Building Renaissance: A 4.54% CAGR Projection by 2029

Doha: According to a recent report from Research and Markets, the construction equipment market in Qatar is projected to reach 8,596 units by 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.54%.

In 2022, the market already had 3,600 units and experienced significant growth.

Within this sector, material handling equipment accounted for the largest market share last year.

The report highlights that cranes, particularly in the material handling segment, held the largest share. This is due to increased investments in housing, warehouse expansion, and renewable energy projects, which are expected to drive the demand for cranes in the market.

Construction is one of the largest sectors in Qatar, with authorities focusing on improving existing infrastructure and initiating new construction projects.

The report states, “These initiatives are expected to boost the demand for cranes in the Qatar construction equipment market in the forecast period.”

Furthermore, the demand for tower cranes has surged since 2021 due to the construction of tall buildings and stadiums for the FIFA World Cup held in Qatar last year.

Notable projects include Zoomlion’s eight luffing jib cranes used to cap the roof of Lusail Stadium and JASO’s sale of luffing tower cranes in the country in 2021.

With the country’s national vision in full swing, it is poised to strengthen the economy and enhance the construction market.

Public infrastructure projects, such as the Qatar Integrated Rail, a $40 billion urban metro, high-speed passenger railway, freight line system, and the New Port Project, a $7.4 billion mega port designed for food security facilities and warehouses, are driving the trend.

The expansion of Hamad International Airport, with a budget of $15.5 billion, is also included in these projects.

Qatar’s 2023 budget allocates resources for the implementation of 22 new projects with a total value of $2.6 billion.

The budget also aims to develop new schools, improve facilities, and enhance both new and existing hospitals and healthcare centers.

Additionally, in March 2023, the Qatar Public Works Authority (Ashghal) awarded the main construction contract for “Roads and Infrastructure” works in Rawdat Egdaim and Ezghawa, valued at $67 million. The project is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2025.
