Al Attiyah and Baumel Continue Winning Streak at Baja Spain Aragon

Doha: Overdrive Racing and Toyota Gazzo Racing achieved remarkable success at Baja Spain Aragon, with Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah and co-driver Mathieu Baumel from Andorra claiming victory in the fourth round of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas. The Brazilian duo of Lucas Moraes and Kaique Bentivoglio secured the second position, and six Overdrive-supported Toyotas finished within the top 10.
Moraes had impressed everyone during his first Dakar appearance in January, securing a podium finish. The young Brazilian fiercely competed with Al Attiyah throughout the race, leading after the opening day and ultimately finishing just 1 minute and 43.2 seconds behind the Qatari driver. Al Attiyah extended his lead in the FIA World Cup standings with his sixth victory in Spain, fifth of which was achieved with Baumel as his co-driver.
Al Attiyah expressed his delight, stating, “This is a fantastic result for myself and Mathieu, and it puts us in a really strong position in the FIA World Cup after four rounds with three wins and one second place.”
Moraes also praised his team, saying, “I cannot thank this team enough. They delivered an amazing car for the whole race. It was an amazing opportunity for me to drive with this team. Last year we got third, this year we got second behind the GOAT (Greatest of All Time, referring to Al Attiyah). Maybe next year we can move one step further. Kaique did an amazing job. The pace we kept was unbelievable. We had a blast!”
Yazeed Al Rajhi and Timo Gottschalk had won the last round of the FIA World Cup in Italy, but they encountered two time-consuming flat tires on the first stage, followed by a three-minute time penalty for an overtaking infringement. Consequently, the Saudi driver had to play catch up, and although they managed the third quickest time on stages two and three, they finished eighth overall.

كان مورايس مفاجأة الداكار الأول له في يناير حيث تألق وحقق المركز الثالث، وقد تنافس البرازيلي الشاب بقوة مع العطية طوال السباق، حيث قاد المركبة بعد اليوم الأول وانتهى المطاف بفارق زمني قدره دقيقة و43.2 ثانية وراء السائق القطري. وبالفعل، قام العطية بتوسيع تقدمه في ترتيب بطولة العالم للفئات العرضية لراليات العبور بفوزه السادس في اسبانيا والخامس برفقة بوميل.
وعبّر العطية عن سعادته قائلاً: “إن هذه النتيجة رائعة بالنسبة لي ولماثيو وهي تضعنا في موقع قوي حقًا في بطولة العالم للراليات بعد أربع جولات حيث حققنا ثلاثة انتصارات ومركز ثانٍ واحد.”
ثم أثنى مورايس على فريقه قائلاً: “لا أستطيع شكر هذا الفريق بما فيه الكفاية. لقد قدموا سيارة مذهلة طوال السباق. كانت فرصة رائعة بالنسبة لي أن أقود مع هذا الفريق. العام الماضي حصلنا على المركز الثالث، وهذا العام حصلنا على المركز الثاني خلف أفضل زمن (العطية). ربما في العام المقبل يمكننا التقدم خطوة إلى الأمام. قام كايك بعمل رائع. كانت السرعة التي حافظنا عليها لا تصدق. لقد استمتعنا بالسباق!”
كان السائق السعودي يزيد الراجحي والملاح تيمو غوتشالك قد فازا بالجولة الأخيرة من بطولة العالم في إيطاليا، ولكنهما واجها اثنين من الإطارات الفارغة التي أستغرقت وقتًا في المرحلة الأولى، ومن ثم تكبدا عقوبة زمنية بلغت ثلاث دقائق بسبب تجاوزهما. وبالتالي، اضطر السائق السعودي للعمل على التقدم، وعلى الرغم من أنهما تمكنا من تحقيق أسرع وقت ثالث في المراحل الثانية والثالثة، إلا أنهما احتلّا المركز الثامن في الترتيب العام.
