Sidra Medicine develops device that can examine 4,000 COVID-19 samples a day
سدرة للطب يبتكر جهازاً لفحص 4000 عينة كوفيد-١٩ في اليوم

Sidra Medicine has developed a new device that can examine 4,000 samples for COVID-19 in Qatar, its Acting Head of Research Dr Khaled Fakhro has said.
The device, which is able to examine 200 to 300 samples per hour, is made using low-cost materials available in the local market, he added.
In terms of sensitivity, Dr Fakhro said, the device is more effective at detecting the virus than other traditional methods currently on the market.
Traditional method of detecting coronavirus involves three steps. At first, a smear from the patient’s respiratory system is obtained. The next step is the extraction of nucleic acids from the smear in a laboratory. The final step is the chemical examinination to confirm if the smear contains the genetic material of coronavirus.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a huge demand and a subsequent shortage of virus detection equipment, Dr Fakro said, adding this prompted Sidra Medicine to develop its own device in a short period of time.

كشف د. خالد فخرو رئيس قسم الأبحاث بالإنابة في سدرة للطب عن ابتكار وتوظيف جهاز روبوتي له قدرة على استيعاب 4000 عينة فحص حالات كورونا «كوفيد-19» ، مؤكداً أن الجهاز قادر على فحص من 200 إلى 300 عينة في الساعة باستخدام مواد منخفضة السعر ومتوفرة في السوق المحلي.
وأكد أن طريقة الكشف التقليدية عن فيروس كورونا تتم من خلال 3 خطوات تبدأ بالحصول على مسحة من الجهاز التنفسي للمريض ومن ثم تؤخذ إلى المختبر وهناك يجري استخلاص الأحماض النووية من المسحة، وبعدها يتم التقصي إذا كان يحتوي على حمض نووي لفيروس كورونا من عدمه، مشيرة إلى أن هذه العملية تتم من خلال فحص كيميائي في المختبر. وأشار إلى أن الطلب على الشركات المنتجة لمعدات الكشف عن الفيروس أحدث عجزاً عالمياً في تلك الأجهزة لذا كان علينا في مختبر سدرة اللجوء إلى طرق جديدة وابتكار أجهزة قادرة على إجراء أكبر عدد من الفحوصات خلال مدة قصيرة والمساهمة في خدمة الوطن، والعالم لافتاً إلى أن عدة مختبرات عالمية تواصلت مع سدرة للطب للحصول على حقوق صناعة الجهاز وإنتاجه وتطبيق آلية الفحص لديهم.
