Head of ICU at HMGH: This drug has proven effective for treating COVID-19 patients

Dr. Mohammed Al Khatib, Head of Intensive Care at Hazm Mebaireek Hospital, confirmed that until this moment, there is no medicine for the treatment of people with Coronavirus (Covid-19), noting to the use of various medications, including “Tosilizumab”, which has proven effective with severe cases of  the virus.

Al-Khatib said in an interview with the Social Distance Program that during the past month the method of treatment with “plasma” has been applied to about 70 patients, 40% of whom were able to get out of intensive care, which is considered good.

The head of the intensive care department of “Hazm Mebaireek” pointed to the allocation of the hospital to be the main center for receiving critical cases infected with the coronavirus, where it currently accommodates 201 beds and the capacity of 221 beds will be reached this weekend.

He pointed out that there are currently 137 patients in the intensive care unit, which means that the hospital is about 67% of its capacity.

Dr. Al Khatib said that intensive care doctors are very knowledgeable in the treatment of internal diseases, but there is no doubt that there is a need from time to time to contact the consultants of Hamad Corporation and we have an open line with them and in case of necessity consultants come to us, pointing out that the past days it turns out that between 10- and 15% of those entering intensive care need dialysis, and that there are specialists following these cases.

أكد الدكتور محمد الخطيب، رئيس قسم العناية المركزة بمستشفى حزم مبيريك عدم وجود دواء حتى الىن لعلاج المصابين بكورونا (كوفيد-19)مشيرا إلى استخدام أدوية متنوعة من بينها مادة “توسيليزوماب” التي أثبتت فعالية مع حالات الإصابة الشديدة بالفيروس.

وأضاف الخطيب في مداخلة مع برنامج المسافة الاجتماعية أنه خلال الشهر الماضي تم تطبيق طريقة العلاج بـ “البلازما” على نحو 70 مريضا استطاع 40% منهم الخروج من العناية المركزة وهي نسبة تعتبر جيدة.

ولفت رئيس قسم العناية المركزة بـ “حزم مبيريك” إلى تخصيص المستشفى لتكون المركز الرئيسي لاستقبال الحالات الحرجة المصابة بفيروس كورونا حيث تستوعب حاليا 201 سرير و ستصل القدرة الاستيعابية إلى 221 سرير نهاية هذا الأسبوع.

وأشار إلى تواجد 137 مريض حاليا بوحدة العناية المركزة ما يعني أن المتواجد داخل المستشفى يمثل نحو 67% من القدرة الاستيعابية لها.

وقال الدكتور الخطيب إن أطباء العناية المركزة على دراية كبيرة في معالجة الأمراض الداخلية، ولكن بلا شك هناك حاجة من وقت للآخر للاتصال بالاستشاريين بمؤسسة حمد ولدينا خط مفتوح معهم وفي حالة الضرورة يأتي إلينا الاستشاريين، لافتا إلى أن الأيام الماضية اتضح أن ما بين 10 – 15% من الذين يدخلون العناية المركزة بحاجة إلى غسيل كلى، وأن هناك متخصصين يتابعون هذه الحالات.
