5 planets to decorate the sky of Doha during May

This is the perfect time of the year to do some planet hunting. According to the Qatar Calender House people in Qatar will be able to spot five planets — Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars — during the month.

In a statement, the QCH said Jupiter, Saturn and Mars will be visible to people in Qatar in the dawn while Venus and Mercury will appear in the dusk.

The five planets will be approaching the Moon at different times during May.

Jupiter and Saturn will align with Moon on the dawn of Tuesday and Wednesday (May 12 and 13). Qatar residents will have a good chance to see the two planets and the Moon with naked eyes or with astronomical telescopes over the eastern horizon of Qatar dawn sky from midnight Tuesday and Wednesday until the sunrise, QCH’s astronomer Dr. Beshir Marzouk said.

On the dawn of Friday (May 15), Mars will be close to the Moon, at three degrees north of Moon’s centre. They will appear over the eastern horizon on Friday from 12:41am (Doha local time) until sunrise on Friday. 

Dr Marzouk said Mercury and Venus will be approaching Moon on the evening of Sunday. They will be visible over the western horizon after sunset . Planet watchers must choose places without light and environment pollutions to see Mercury.

ذكرت دار التقويم القطري أن خمسة من كواكب مجموعتنا الشمسية (المشترى، وزحل، والمريخ، وعطارد، والزهرة) سوف تزين سماء قطر خلال شهر مايو الحالي.

وأوضحت دار التقويم القطري أن كلاً من هذه الكواكب سوف تصل إلى أقرب نقطة من القمر في أوقاتٍ مختلفة خلال هذا الشهر، حيث سيتمكن سكان دولة قطر وجميع دول المنطقة العربية من رؤية ورصد كل من المشترى وزحل والمريخ في سماء الفجر، بينما سيمكنهم رصد كوكبي الزهرة وعطارد في سماء المساء خلال الشهر الحالي.

وأوضح الدكتور بشير مرزوق، الخبير الفلكي بدار التقويم القطري، أن عملاق مجموعتنا الشمسية «المشترى»، والكوكب ذا الحلقات الجميلة «زحل» سيصلان أقرب نقطة من قمر شهر رمضان المبارك، وذلك فجر يومي الثلاثاء والأربعاء 19 و20 من شهر رمضان 1441هـ، الموافق 12 و13 من مايو 2020م.

أما في فجر يوم الجمعة 22 من شهر رمضان، الموافق 15 من مايو، فسوف يصل الكوكب الأحمر «المريخ» إلى أقرب نقطة من القمر، حيث سيكون البُعد الزاوي بين المريخ والقمر ثلاث درجات قوسية تقريباً.

وأضاف الدكتور بشير مرزوق أن كلاً من ألمع وأصغر كواكب المجموعة الشمسية «الزهرة وعطارد» سيكونان عند أقرب نقطة من هلال شهر شوال 1441هـ، وذلك مساء يوم الأحد 1 من شهر شوال، طبقاً للحسابات الفلكية، الموافق 24 من مايو الحالي.
