Ehsan launches awareness campaign for elderly to fight Coronavirus pandemic

The Center of Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan), which operates under the umbrella of Qatar Social Work Foundation (QSW), launched an awareness campaign for the elderly and their caregivers on coronavirus and COVID-19, through its social media platforms.
The Head of the Technical Production Section in the Center’s Awareness and Community Outreach Department, Manal Al Mannai, said that the campaign was launched in several stages, the first of which included sharing the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the centre, as it took a rapid and advanced action to protect the elderly by stopping physiotherapy services and mobile physiotherapy unit. Other preventive measures that were taken for the centre’s employees, included the cancellation of most outdoor activities, as well as the suspension of day club activities and all training programmes and competitions.
The second stage targeted the caregivers for the elderly by publishing a collection of educational interviews in several languages presented by specialists from the centre’s staff to educate the caregivers for the elderly on how to take care of them and protect them from the risk of infection, she added.
She pointed out that the third stage was focused on the psychological, health and social aspects, during which educational messages were prepared by specialists in mental and social health, as well as physiotherapy and others, where educational messages and videos on how to deal with the virus without panic or fear, were published, as well as on how caregivers deal with the elderly psychologically, by keeping them away from the negative news and the repeating of the sentence that suggests that this virus only affects the elderly.
Since the elderly should stay home to be protected from the risk of infection, several messages were presented on how to encourage them to move and do some exercise at home, she explained. The campaign’s materials are based primarily on the instructions by the Ministry, in addition to contributions by specialists in the centre.

أطلق مركز تمكين ورعاية كبار السن “إحسان” المنضوي تحت مظلة المؤسسة القطرية للعمل الاجتماعي، حملة توعوية لكبار السن ومن يرعاهم، بفيروس كورونا “كوفيد-19” تحت عنوان “صحتهم غالية علينا”، وذلك عبر منصات التواصل الاجتماعي الخاصة بالمركز.
وقالت السيدة منال المناعي رئيس قسم الإنتاج الفني في إدارة التوعية والتواصل المجتمعي بالمركز، إن الحملة تم إطلاقها على عدة مراحل، تضمنت الأولى منها نشر الإجراءات الاحترازية والوقائية التي اتخذها المركز حيث كانت إجراءات المركز سريعة ومسبقة لحماية كبار السن من خلال إيقاف خدمات العلاج الطبيعي ووحدة العلاج الطبيعي المتنقلة، وتم اتخاذ الإجراءات الوقائية الخاصة بالموظفين في المركز وإلغاء أغلب الفعاليات الخارجية وتعليق أنشطة النوادي النهارية ووقف كافة برامج التمكين من دورات تدريبية ومسابقات.
وأضافت أن المرحلة الثانية استهدفت القائمين على رعاية كبار السن من خلال نشر مجموعة من المقابلات التوعوية بعدة لغات قدمها متخصصون من موظفي المركز لتوعية الأفراد القائمين على رعاية كبار السن حول كيفية الاهتمام بهم وحمايتهم من خطر العدوى.
وأشارت إلى أن المرحلة الثالثة تم التركيز فيها على الجانب النفسي والصحي والاجتماعي، وتم خلالها إعداد رسائل توعوية من قبل متخصصين في الصحة النفسية والاجتماعية والعلاج الطبيعي وغيرها، عن طريق نشر رسائل وفيديوهات توعوية حول كيفية التعامل مع المرض بدون هلع أو خوف وآلية تعامل المهتمين بكبار السن نفسياً معهم بإبعادهم عن الأخبار السلبية وتكرار جملة أن المرض لا يأتي إلا لكبار السن.
وأوضحت أنه نظراً لأن كبار السن يجب عليهم المكوث في المنزل لحمايتهم من خطر العدوى فهناك مجموعة من الرسائل حول كيفية تشجيعهم على الحركة وممارسة بعض التمارين في المنزل.
وقالت المناعي إنه تم كذلك، بناء محتوى الحملة بالدرجة الأولى على تعليمات وزارة الصحة العامة في الدولة حول إرشادات الوقاية وغيرها، وكذلك من خلال المتخصصين في المجالات المختلفة بالمركز.
الجدير بالذكر أن مركز إحسان بالرغم من أن أغلب خدماته تم إيقافها كإجراء وقائي، في تواصل مستمر مع المنتسبين من كبار السن من خلال تقديم النصائح ودعمهم نفسياً عبر الاتصال بهم بمختلف الوسائل المتاحة.
