Two pending results negative; Qatar safe from coronavirus
ظهور النتائج سلبية للحالتين المشتبه بهما ؛ قطر آمنة من فيروس كورونا
Doha: All 25 suspected cases screened for the novel coronavirus in Qatar have showed negative results, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said in a statement.
The Ministry said that Qatar is safe from coronavirus as the two pending test results of people who were under observation has come out negative.
MoPH has established protocols to deal with suspected cases and educate healthcare workers to detect symptoms of the emerging coronavirus, said Dr Abdullatif Al Khal, Chairman of Pandemic Preparedness Committee, addressing a press conference.
“Since the World Health Organization announced about the new virus in china on January 9, the Ministry has taken all measures by implementing surveillance at the Hamad International Airport and establishing a clinic. We have also educated the healthcare workers how to detect suspected cases,” he said.
“The surveillance has been effective. Anyone returning from China with fever and respiratory problems are screened immediately, admitted at the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC), screened and discharged within 24 hours if the test is negative. This is done everyday including weekends,” said Dr Al Khal who is also the Head of Infectious Disease, Hamad Medical Corporation.
He emphasized that the Pandemic Preparedness Committee, which includes representatives from the MoPH, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Hamad International Airport, Qatar Airways and other partners, is constantly monitoring the situation and implementing the necessary procedures and precautions in order to diagnose cases that can enter Qatar.
During the press conference held in the morning, officials had said that 25 suspected cases of coronavirus were detected in Qatar of which 23 reports have been ruled out as negative while lab tests of two are still pending.
