MoPH confirms a case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome

Doha: Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) declared that a case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) has been confirmed. The case is for a male citizen aged 65 years who has been suffering from several chronic diseases.
MERS is a viral respiratory disease that is caused by one of the coronaviruses (MERS-CoV), but it differs from the novel Coronavirus known as (COVID19), which has recently spread in several countries. Both viruses differ in terms of the source of infection, mode of transmission, and the disease severity. The Ministry of Public Health confirms that no cases of the novel Coronavirus (COVID19) have been diagnosed in Qatar so far.
The patient has been admitted to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care in accordance with the national protocol to deal with confirmed or suspected cases of the disease.
Ministry of Public Health, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, is taking all necessary preventive and precautionary measures to control the disease and prevent it from spreading.
Only three cases of MERS-CoV were registered in Qatar during the past two years. The Ministry of Public Health calls on all members of public, and especially people with chronic diseases or those with immunodeficiency disorders, to adhere to public hygiene measures. This includes washing the hands regularly with water and soap, using hand sanitizers, as well as avoiding close contact with camels and seeking medical advice when experiencing symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath.
The Rapid Response Team of the Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control is available round-the-clock to receive notifications or inquiries related to communicable diseases on its hotline numbers 66740948 or 66740951.
أعلنت وزارة الصحة العامة عن تسجيل حالة إصابة مؤكدة بمتلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية، لمواطن يبلغ من العمر 65 عاماً، ويعاني من عدة أمراض مزمنة، وذكرت الوزارة أن المريض أدخل المستشفى لتلقي العناية الطبية اللازمة حسب البروتوكول الوطني للتعامل مع حالات الإصابة المؤكدة أو المشتبهة بالمرض.
يُذكر أن متلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية هي مرض تنفسي فيروسي، يتسبب فيه أحد فيروسات كورونا «فيروس كورونا المسبب لمتلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية»، وهو يختلف عن فيروس كورونا المستجد والمعروف بـ «كوفيد 19»، والذي انتشر مؤخراً في عدد من الدول، حيث يختلف الفيروسان في مصدر العدوى وطرق انتقال المرض وشدته.
وأكدت وزارة الصحة العامة عدم تشخيص أي حالة لعدوى فيروس كورونا المستجد «كوفيد 19» في دولة قطر حتى الآن.
يشار إلى أنه خلال العامين الماضيين، تم تسجيل ثلاث حالات لفيروس كورونا المسبب لمتلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية في دولة قطر، وتقوم وزارة الصحة العامة بالتعاون مع وزارة البلدية والبيئة بتطبيق الإجراءات الوقائية والاحترازية كافة اللازمة للسيطرة على المرض والحد من انتشاره.
ودعت وزارة الصحة العامة جميع أفراد المجتمع، وخاصة الأشخاص المصابين بالأمراض المزمنة أو الذين يعانون من نقص مستوى المناعة، إلى التقيد بتدابير النظافة العامة والمداومة على غسل اليدين بالماء والصابون والمطهرات، مع تجنب الاختلاط عن قرب مع الإبل، وطلب الاستشارة الطبية عند الشعور بالحمى والسعال وآلام الحلق وضيق التنفس.
